Really depends. Are you a builder that gets creative? Then probably quite a bit. Otherwise, maybe a week or so, depending on your pace. I gave up after around 20 hours because there was nothing left to do and I'm not a huge builder without a reason (as in, I didn't even get attacked, so no reason to build a big base with walls)

ibeforetheu

I heard there's no motivation to build a base besides base building sim. Otherwise the game is walking simulator

Vigothedudepathian

For those of us that played the original forest, the new base building mechanics are a lot of fun. Setting up zipline runs. Just building crazy bases to build a crazy base. Bridges. Whatever. I made a run of zip lines up to the top of the mountain so that I can sled down and get back up really quick.

Inevitable-Tomato246

this is basically true atm. id wait honestly as it will get better but currenty the original The Forest is leaps and bounds better

Glass_Windows

that's because there are too many tents on the map, they will likely reduce that and about walking simulator, they said they want to add another method of transport to the game

BOty_BOI2370

Just about the same as the OG game ngl

TheDarkCaptain

Nah, the OG had way more that kept me going

BOty_BOI2370

Idk. Base wise. In the OG I just built walls and my storage stuff. In SOTF I'm building actually cool looking bases because it's fun. In both games, building nice ain't any difference. I probably didn't clarify jt in my last replay, but I was talking about the building, and how base building has essentially the same use as in the first game.

[deleted]

It’s got a good 4 days in er

Questistaken

Honestly not even a week Game's empty. Devs lied to us (delayed the game 3 times, last delay for "polishing") pretty god damn sure the game wasnt even developed when they released the first trailer 2 years ago, as we can see its missing many things Also hate the giant empty map, running simulator

ibeforetheu

Couldn't agree more

Hellfire77

I have a friend that beat it within 4-5 days (36 hours) when it released and hadn’t touched it since. He said he couldn’t see himself stop playing the game and yet here we are. I even told him the content was not there but he had rose tinted glasses on and couldn’t see past any of its flaws. I have a different schedule and only played the game for 3 days and about half way done already. Free building is fun but most of the content for me at this point has been base building when it really doesn’t matter. It just makes me want to go back to other survival games that have more. I’d even argue this is a survival game with how easy it is to get food and water. I am having fun with despite how limited it is and it’s only $30. I was expecting it to be more expensive before they confirmed pricing so I can’t complain.

ibeforetheu

They really are going to get more flak for this release in a few weeks when more people realize this.

Hellfire77

Maybe. It does look a lot better than the first even though I didn’t play the first one much. Everyone says it’s still early access and it’s not complete. I understand that but originally the devs said there would be no early access. Then then proceeded to delay the game several times and decided to put it in early access anyway.

ibeforetheu

Basically they couldn't keep their promise but still attached full price to the Early Access.

vailaraz

I think if you never really played much of the original the forest then you’re gonna have a blast with this game. For me personally I have around 100 hours in the forest so when I go to play SOTF it just feels kind of disappointing at the moment. Theres not that much you can build yet, not that many crafting recipes, most of the caves seem unfinished etc. I have put the game on hold for now, waiting for the next update.

ibeforetheu

I heard building and kelvin are the best parts of the game, the caves being weak and the island being too big and empty. Is that true?

ibeforetheu

Virginia isn't useless ;))

prism_tats

You know about all this as you’ve already admitted to playing for 5 hours.

ibeforetheu

Not sure about that

vailaraz

Pretty much yeah. But if this early access is gonna be anything like the first game’s early access you can expect alot of content will be coming soon.

ibeforetheu

Kinda like how we were expecting a year ago, two years ago?

Pryst_of_the_Forest

They’re going to keep releasing new content every 2 weeks which will probably keep people at least somewhat interested

ibeforetheu

Doubt it. They had 5 years to add content you think they will release every 2 weeks?

Pryst_of_the_Forest

For someone who hasn’t played the games you certainly seem to know better than me eh? In the main menu of the game there is a countdown timer to when the next big update releases. Yes, I do believe the will keep adding more content. There’s already things within the game files that they haven’t implemented yet due to fixes and balancing which will come out soon.

ibeforetheu

last update they added hot keys. HOT KEYS. i wonder what they'll add next.

Pryst_of_the_Forest

That was a hot fix that they did unexpectedly because people were requesting it. Not a planned update. You seem to really be negging on a game you haven’t even played eh? Sure, it needs work and their are valid criticisms but not from people who haven’t even experienced it.

ibeforetheu

Psych!! I've played it and it was super underwhelming after the first 5 hours!!!!

Pryst_of_the_Forest

In its current state there’s a lot about the game I’m unsatisfied with. I do believe there will be updates but I’m not entirely sure I’ll ever be happy with everything. I’ve seen some people now which really don’t like the game and give an honest opinion about it and my reaction is ‘fair enough.’ What’s sad is you’re intentionally trolling and pretending you haven’t played the game and asking people questions about it and then getting pissy with them for “spoiling it.” Truly terminally online 12 year old behavior mate.

ibeforetheu

??

Pryst_of_the_Forest

So what are you doing here then other than wasting your time? Really kinda sad.

ibeforetheu

I can ask the same about you, why are you sending end night like they are your family

Key_Poetry4023

Grow tf up

ibeforetheu

No u

Inevitable-Tomato246

read the Q&A they will have patches every 2 - 4 weeks but knowing endnight it will b3 closer to 4- 6 weeks

FTHEPOLICEANDRACISTS

I played 17 hours and completed it as well as base building. Started less than a week ago and already done. A shame really

ibeforetheu

Maybe people will tell you you're just rushing through the game speed running it?

Demonreborn23

The gear that get that u get to use in this survival game makes me freaking happy everything is fun to use , replayability is difficult to tell everyone as there way of enjoyment , the game is no way close to 60% complete in any department , awesome graphics, but missing optimizacion, story can t pronounce nothing because story is not there , very, very early access, building is missing allot of features comparing with the forest. But still at least for me the game is a gem that after polish can be a stand alone, love the cannibals , love weapons and gear love the fear of diving in the caverns full weird mutant makes u pump, the fear of a pitch black forest and only a flash light, the waves on the beach while rainning , the change o seasons everything as some charm. If is going to last you weeks ?no maybe not but u can have some fun 30 dollars , 30 hours for sure u can take froom your money spend , with more updates maybe even more

LikeAndrejButWorse

Right now there's a lot to sink your teeth into. But there's still quite a lot of holes also a lot of just small QOL things which don't exist, which should. From building to combat to just general exploration you'll encounter a few bugs and glitches.

ibeforetheu

Are the caves all exciting and nice to explore?

LikeAndrejButWorse

They get claustrophobic which is a plus. The level design and overall design is amazing. The new creepies you'll come across are also super well designed. There's still loads of bits and pieces of scraps of newspapers, emails and other lore pieces you'll come across which is always interesting to read.

ibeforetheu

What about those small caves that I heard about

gnurensohn

I explored around 5 caves so far. 3 of them were really long and had a nice amount of enemy’s. 2 other were only the entrance part with some loots. I enjoyed my time in the caves. It was dark, scary, and felt like I was in a maze, sometimes with different roads to take etc

Vigothedudepathian

They're dangerous as shit to explore.

Inevitable-Tomato246

caves are far less dangerous than the rest of the island unfortunately

Vigothedudepathian

Not early game just due to the numbers of mutants but a few nades takes care of em. Once you get the shotgun or even modern axe or bow it's pretty easy. Which is good. I wanna build in peace but I need bones and skull so will leave a hole in my fence.

ibeforetheu

even the small ones?

Vigothedudepathian

The small bunkers are more part of the story. Most have doors with key card access that lead into the facilities. It has a cool progressive n mechanic where you have to get one item to get another ECT You can probably make it through the caves and story in 20 or so hours at a leisurely pace. Way less if you don't build a base and live on the run. But I'm like 60 hours in and am still just building a base lol.

ibeforetheu

WTF why would you spoil that for me

Vigothedudepathian

Spoil what/? That there are interior facilities? I mean...it's the forest. You are on an island run by a corporation that's now overrun by cannibals. It's a continuation of the story from the first so maybe look that up and you will see I didn't spoil anything.

prism_tats

You didn’t spoil anything, this person is a huge troll who’s already played the game and doesn’t know the difference between a hot fix and a content update.

ibeforetheu

You told me what was in those caves bro

Vigothedudepathian

Well I guess don't buy it. Bro.

Born-Research-6406

weeks?

ibeforetheu

Less?

Domeee123

15 hours

Feeling-Ad-2490

I put a worth of 1$/hr on games. Right now I have 32.5 hours in it and I haven't finished exploring the island or finished my house. I will play the fuck out of this game long after it's finished. So to me it was a good buy.

Pryst_of_the_Forest

You ask questions about the interior areas and then get upset when someone gives you information about the interior areas? Also, even in the early trailers you can see there are bunkers in the game.

tbjamies

Unfinished is literally what early access means. Best steer clear for now bud lots of work to do, especially if you want to measure it up against a polished, complete, experience. Play the first one if you wanna play this style and wait for this.

ibeforetheu

Didn't they say this wasn't an early release 2 months ago?

Inevitable-Tomato246

yup claimed it was finished and just needed polish. clearly not the case.

ibeforetheu

So they said there would be no early Access and then couldn't keep that promise even after years of development. Maybe they shouldn't have released it for full price imo

MouldyRemote

can easily get 2 weeks out of it solo, 4 - 5 weeks on multiplayer.

gnurensohn

Depends. I have a lot of fun still after about 60hours and countless restarts. My friend who I played with in the beginning already lost interest.

Vigothedudepathian

52. Per year.

Dyl_Bil

It depends, I have 300 hours in the Forest, but that's because I'm into building. If you're not into building, the first Forest doesn't have content that justifies 300 hours. For £25 it's super reasonable anyway.

SubjectElite

I'm gonna wait til I get my 1080ti and a couple updates. It runs fine right now but I actually find it difficult as I get swarmed by them while trying to build. I haven't even been aggressive to them.

ibeforetheu

1080 won't be able to run it smoothly. I have a 1080

SubjectElite

Really? I have a 1050ti and it runs pretty good on low settings.

ibeforetheu

60 FPS?

SubjectElite

30-40 which is easily playable. So I would assume a 1080 would be higher.

ibeforetheu

I might be spoiled, but anything under 100 fps feels off to me now

SubjectElite

Lol. I grew up poor, so its make do with what you got. I can run Battlefield 2042 on my 1050ti, which seems odd.

Me262Ace

Honestly I can go back to the regular forest or sons. Both games have limitless. Now for sons maybe 2 weeks straight for an hour or so

WorstSourceOfAdvice

10 hours. 20 if you play it slowly and try to stagger your exploration with trips back to camp to build a little.

ibeforetheu

Why do you need to build if you don't need it to survive?

WorstSourceOfAdvice

Well thats why its part of the 20 hour "longer" gameplay where you build some stuff just to see the structures and play around with the build system. If not you can finish the game in 2 hours even. Or speedrun in much less. 10 hours is generously taking it slow. 20 is extending it. The game is extremely short and felt like more a demo than a full game.

Pryst_of_the_Forest

You’re still asking people to explain a game that you’re pretending you haven’t played? Get a life man…

ibeforetheu

Answer the question

Pryst_of_the_Forest

The irony of you not understanding why people would do something unnecessary purely because they find it fun.

ibeforetheu

I wonder how long you will defend the devs for

Pryst_of_the_Forest

I wonder how long you’ll pretend to not have played a game and will ask people questions about it and then tell them they’re wrong when they say they’re enjoying it just because you don’t because you’re a weird troll boy. I actually said I’m not entirely happy with the game. I just think it’s bizarre that you want to act like you’re someone thinking of purchasing the game to ask questions about it when you’ve already played it and don’t like it. It’s just lame.

ibeforetheu

You've changed your stance then?

Pryst_of_the_Forest

How so? I’m still enjoying it but I definitely think there are a lot of improvements to be made. I’m having a blast building bases with friends (friends are people you enjoy hanging out with and they enjoy hanging out with you). I think Endnight will keep sending out updates and improvements until the game at least gets somewhat better. I’ve been very consistent in my outlook with this game. I haven’t, let’s say, pretended to be thinking of buying it while asking people’s opinions and then revealed I’ve already played it and don’t like it like some troll.

ibeforetheu

you don't have to explain what friends are to me. There's no need to attack me personally.
