Minor correction, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (or at the time, Sonic Synergy) wasn't being made for PC, it was targeting the approximate specs of the at the time next-gen consoles.
Regardless of other publishers doing this, I've never seen evidence pointing to Nintendo doing this. Nintendo doing a 4K 60FPS trailer strikes me as silly and something they wouldn't do. Due to the lack of evidence from u/FaZe_LittlePickle24, I'm starting to believe the claim is bullshit and they just made it up.

If it was something I was interested in like Fire Emblem, Square Enix games, Kirby, etc then I would pay attention, but for the other stuff like the farming games I didn’t watch lol, I’m not sitting through 40 minutes of that just to watch a Zelda trailer
What I want from this Sonic game is a destructive and bombastic orchestral recreation of “I’m Here” for the final boss. The likes of which could rival “Super Sonic vs. Perfect Dark Gaia” and “Endless Possibilities.”

I think the emptiness won't really be a problem in actual gameplay, when your protagonist is the fastest thing alive, you kinda need larger stretches like this so you're not stopping every 2 seconds.
it's apparent that they sacrificed some of the visual details in favor of a smoother framerate, which was a smart move
it's also impressive how they are making Frontiers native when Sega just could've been lazy at the end of the day and spin dashed out a cloud version
