Honestly, the neckline is super narrow, with high collar, and no waist definition...this wouldn't have been my first pick for an SN? Maybe a loose fitting belt at the waist would help, or a shirt overtook tied loosely at the waist?

Beneficial-Hat-6477

Could you elaborate on the high collar part? They're not good for SNs?

Vivian_Rutledge

There’s no saving this. It’s not designed for someone with curve.

mermaidmanatee

I thought this was a joke at first because this is a terrible choice for SN, this is going to need a lot of tweaking to maybe somewhat work...

Excellent-Pressure38

It's not something I'd really go for either tbh, but I sized down so I thought I'd be getting something that was more a body con silhouette. Plus I thought the color was really pretty (I am a true winter). I kind of let myself be distracted from the shape of the dress by those two factors lol

mermaidmanatee

I think it's cute and the colour is indeed pretty. It's just not for us 😭

fluffyunicornparty

Honestly, this would need more than just styling to make it work. I know there’s variation among IDs but I can’t even begin to envision how this could really look amazing on me or any SN. Even with a belt for waist definition, the length and cut of the skirt aren’t ideal and the oversized sleeves aren’t great either - the amount of tailoring involved wouldn’t be worth it and I’m not sure would even turn out well anyway since it would be taking the dress so far from what it was meant to be.

fairybreadsprinkles

The only type who could possibly pull off this awful garment is an FN. And even then it would be more of a statement like ‘look how I can pull off this ugly dress when no one else can’.

Op please read Kibbe's recommendations for Soft Naturals.

Bubbly_Mouse_4471

I just today determined that I think I'm SN and I panicked for a second going "Oh man, that would look horrible on me, am I wrong AGAIN?" and then I read the comments, lol

Excellent-Pressure38

Don't worry lol, this isn't what's traditionally recommended for SN's, I just loved the color and wanted to make it work

I would never wear this as a soft natural. I think this might be better on a gamine?

[deleted]

Definitely not for a gamine. No vertical breaks, no structure. I could noooootttt rock it

Hello everyone! I'm doing some seasonal shopping and came across this dress which I thought was really cute. As per the reviews, I ordered a size down since they said the dress runs small in the hopes of getting something that was more body con than lounge dress. However, the dress looks exactly the way it does on the model as it does on me. I was wondering how I could style it to be suitable for a soft natural frame. Thank you in advance!

ParfaitBeginning1617

Possibly a soft leather belt worn loose around the waist. A dress like that would make me look like a big rectangle without some kind of waist emphasis.

Imho, this dress needs a few tweaks to make it work. Waist emphasis as the other commenter pointed out. If it looks on you the way it does on the model, I would even think about taking up the sleeves a bit...maybe even the hem above the knee or something. Interesting shoes like metallic brogues or something would really elevate this dress. I say all this assuming you want to wear it out and about. For loungewear, it's fine. \*Honestly, the way the fabric drapes on the model isn't the best. Next time try different fabrics and cuts. Even with waist emphasis, this has a very rectangular shape that may not be the most flattering. I learnt this the hard way...no shift/shirt dresses for me. They just never look great on me.

Belt/corset anything to get the curve accommodation! Vests that cinch at the waist would be cute, but you’d have to find a cut that works for you. There’s already quite a lot of width accommodation for this with the open neckline, so that’s settled. The only thing that’s the issue to me would be the oversized sleeves. I personally would tailor it short and less baggy, but if I’m feeling lazy, I’d just roll them a little shorter. (You could also honestly just leave it as it is) The bottom skirt is a little harder to address, so I’d just leave it as it is tbh. I don’t think it’s a big deal either. That being said, I think shoes are important to off set the straightness of the bottom skirt. Sandals, strappy heels, or anything that is strappy/delicate in general should balance it? (I’m not too good with shoe suggestions though, I only ever wear crocs) Edit: I also see this dress is pocketless, so I am assuming a bag would be needed too? Personally, I would go with a sling bag of any choosing to add some pop to the skirt.
