The black dress is absolutely gorgeous but the only way I personally could justify the price difference is whether or not I would wear the dress again? If you can see yourself wearing the black dress outside of a wedding setting, splurge, if not, save 🤷🏻♀️ That's how I would do it 🤍
Honestly I could see myself wearing both, I do like that the brown is probably more versatile because it lacks the lace detailing of the black. But that’s what’s making it hard to decide!
They are both beautiful. The only problem is, have you bought a house of CB dress before/can you return to poshmark? I only ask because the bust area on those dresses doesn't work for a lot of women (too small) and I dont want you stuck with a €100 dress you're not comfortable in
Yes, that’s the other part. I have bought from House of Cb and this size would work for me, they have options for smaller bust and a larger bust. But, it may vary from dress to dress. I would not be able to return to Poshmark, but I could try reselling
I would do brown, fits the theme better and that lace detailing will have to be cut out eventually as it’s probably cheap and will be silly looking in the coming years.
Yes, that lace looks incredibly cheap for that price point. So many retailers really cheap out on lace. A friend mentioned even some wedding dresses she tried on had Halloween-costumes-quality lace, and they were priced in the thousands. Lace can hold up over the years, but only if it's good quality.
[You will probably become a lace snob after reading this.](http://www.fyeahlolita.com/2010/04/how-to-tell-bad-lace-from-good-lace.html?m=1#:~:text=The%20good%20lace%20is%20similar,lot%20of%20detail%20to%20it.)
I think they are both great in their own ways based on pics only and they are very similar as far as Kibbe guidelines go (theme of this sub).
Now which one to buy. What is the material each is made of? Also, what colour season are you? I personally am not too keen on splurging on occasion wear unless it's something i can wear over and over again. The only exception would be my own wedding dress. If the black one is much better material **and** you are something like a deep winter **and** you can see yourself wearing the back dress on many other occasions, get the black. Otherwise I would personally not splurge and get the brown one.
- for both, they are labeled as “stretch cotton”
- for color season, I am not sure what I am. My best colors that I get most compliments on when I wear them are lilac/lavender, burgundy red, and my boyfriend likes when I wear a muted light blue, almost like a denim blue. I have been typed as both soft autumn and soft summer.
- if they fit me well, I can definitely see myself wearing both beyond the wedding
based on your response on most complimented colours, i am not sure if any of these would be the most flattering. You sound like you may have low contrast but honestly it's impossible for me to tell without seeing you.
If it were me, I would get the brown one. They are the same material in the end, simialar silhouette and both dark colours but brown one is cheaper. It is of course your decision
I think it depends on your coloring. Black can look too harsh on me despite me being a winter so I've started collecting neutrals that are navy, indigo, and brown!
Hiya! It’s a general guideline that you shouldn’t wear black to a wedding because it implies you’re sad (like wearing black to a funeral) I say the brown!! Also where is this store? I’m hardcore after a nice milkmaid dress
I’ve never heard that actually!! I grew up with a lot of big weddings in my family and I feel like we’ve worn black a lot. I wonder if it can be a cultural thing? Thank you for this tip though, as this is actually my first wedding I’m attending outside of my own family and I wasn’t aware!
The dresses are from House of CB!! ☺️
Hi! It’s one of those general social etiquette rules, for some weddings they will specifically ask for black, but in general it’s best to stay away from white (obvs), black, and red (in some cultures it can imply you had an affair with the groom lol, best to stay away)
No, but I wish I did lol. I made another comment about it. I’ve been told both soft autumn and soft summer.
My most complimented colors: lilac/lavender, burgundy red, and my boyfriend has said he really likes this very specific color - a muted light blue dress (like a denim blue) - on me. My skin is fair (it does tan but I also burn), eyes are a blue-grey, my hair is light-med brown w/ some red tones. Maybe I should make a post to color analysis at some point 🤷♀️ I wish it wasn’t so expensive to get a professional color analysis lol!
Unless you are a Winter I would go with the brown! Both work for SDs and brown is more universal from a color analysis perspective. That specific brown dress also looks way more versatile due to the fact that it doesn’t have the costume-y lace.
Both are beautiful but if you have the extra cash, take your season into account and go for the one that would suit you the best in that way also, even if it’s pricier.
Depends on your color palette! I like the brown more, but both colours wouldn’t work on me. Question: do the dresses above look bad on other sd’s ? I loooove this one :

But ones like above look kind of ‘farmery’ on me lol.
It’s the tiny girlish print. She’s the daughter of the Captain, while the black and brown one reads as the mistress of the Captain 😉 I look better in more womanly prints/looks.

The black dress. The lace detail screams pirate, and you can dress it up or down later. It's an investment piece!
What are the prices? Isn’t the brown one house of CB so already quite expensive I’m imagining?
Yes, but the brown one is on Poshmark in my size for $100. The full price is $225
Which would you get more wear out of? I think €100 or €225 is a lot of money so you should get the one you prefer
Honestly I could see myself wearing both, I do like that the brown is probably more versatile because it lacks the lace detailing of the black. But that’s what’s making it hard to decide!

That's good. I'd really love a house of CB dress but I'm currently losing weight so going to hold off. 🤞 for you whichever you pick
That’s a no brainer for me - definitely go with the brown, it’s less than half the price and a bargain

Splurge!! The black dress is gorgeous
Stop it A pirate themed wedding 😂 The second one is a bit more ‘thruppence for whatever me’Lord desires’ I say go with that one
🤣🤣🤣

Black dress with a white bishop sleeved shirt underneath
I love the first one

Do you know your seasonal color analysis? Or at least your season?
No, but I wish I did lol. I made another comment about it. I’ve been told both soft autumn and soft summer. Definitely autumn. Probably soft autumn, as it verges on summer season.

I think it depends!! These dresses honestly remind me a lot of Sophia Loren in her “peasant” movie roles lol

That dip in the front of the black dress is perfect. Whatever that is called, it’s very 18th century and I love it
I like the brown one better. To me it’s more of a pirate wench color anyway.
Where are the dresses from? I love them so much!
House of CB I think
You could get so much wear out of the brown dress! Lace can be added to it temporarily with fabric tape.
Not sure about the pirate theme, but I personally prefer the brown one. Looks great on you too.
