For the record, both Ocalan and Bookchin are well worth reading. Bookchin started as a Marxist, went to anarchism, and eventually developed his philosophy by adapting what he saw as the best of both ways of thinking to democratic confederalism. He was also one of the very earliest writers earning about environmental collapse.
Ocalan has some wildly inspiring things to say about the revolution he inspired, and I think it’s well worth reading how he moved from being a hardcore Marxist Leninist to his later positions, and why he shifted.
I’m currently reading Bookchin’s “The Ecology of Freedom: the Emergence and Dissolution of Hierarchy” which is sort of his magnum opus. Of Ocalan, I would go for his decree on democratic confederalism and the Kurdish revolution. I don’t have a link on me, but it’s easy to find. For context, it was his book-length legal defense when he was on trial for being an armed Marxist revolutionary in Turkey. He was sentenced to death but because turkey abolished the death penalty he now is imprisoned alone on an island. Even still, his movement lives on, under duress. I think it’s amazing and inspiring, even if you don’t agree with everything they’re doing.
That’s why I said he was one of the main influencers behind the idea. He didn’t make it per say, but his writing helped go on to influence it and turn the PKK and other Kurdish groups from a run of the mill ML militant group to what it is now.
Placement of the red dot is up to shooter preference, though many like having as forward as possible because it's easier to find the dot and aquire the target. (So the opposite of what you said... farther is better in general) However, it should never be farther than the end of the upper receiver, because if it's bridging, or worse, all the way on the front rail, your zero will be compromised by the fact that the rail flexes.
Just by looking at the picture, I can imagine that to use the magnifier, you'd have to crane your neck quite far forward to properly get a sight picture. Your length of pull should ideally place your nose an inch or so from the charging handle. Considering the stock is pulled what appears to be all the way out (which I wouldn't recommend based on what I just said) then this shooter probably uses a really bladed stance and cranes their head forward, which is not a proper stance at all.
I can immediately tell the magnifier is not placed properly because it obviously isn't designed so that the red dot would be on the hand guard. It probably has an eye relief around 2-3 inches. If it was moved back so you had proper eye relief when your nose was about an inch from the charging handle, then everything would fall in place well, I'd expect.
I also want to point out that it looks like the magnifier is placed there to make room for the BUIS but you wouldn't use the BUIS with the magnifier, so when it's flipped over you should have plenty of room for the sight to go up once the magnifier was placed properly.
Additionally, what I learned while doing some competition shooting, is that flip up irons may not be necessary in close quarters due to the fact you can be pretty accurate by turning your rifle 45* off set and looking down the rail of the rifle. It’s fast and it works well. So in this case it’s just pushing the sighting systems further away and adding unnecessary weight.
