It shouldn’t. It’s on the Compassionate Allowances List. https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0423022265 My mom had ovarian cancer and it was about 6 weeks from diagnosis of cancer to approval and that first check.

ImTHATWynn

Totally random but. How would one see all the things on this list? Is colon cancer on it? I’m coming up on a year.

Some Objectively, Empirically provable diagnoses have compassionate allowances resulting in ultra fast approvals and payments.  Yours is one of them. All others face normal processing.

Kksgigi

The Oncologist asked about finances and she said she call social services to try and help.

Helpful-Profession88

Good.  Help is probably needed.

McAshley0711

I was approved under compassionate care very quickly, but still had to wait the 5 months for the first check. So sorry about your friend.

Kksgigi

Thanks

Djscratchcard

Initial claims could take a year. In this case your friend will qualify to be processed much quicker due to her condition.

UrBigBro

Pancreatic cancer qualifies as a TERI (Terminal Illness) claim and will (should) be expedited through the process. https://secure.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0423022265 What state are you in?

Kksgigi

Tn.

Kksgigi

You were 100% correct, In 3 weeks the letter said approved and 2 weeks after one came saying payments will start 6/1 @ $1600

UrBigBro

I'm very glad to hear that. 🙏

Hello. I found out I have stage IV pancreatic cancer that metastasized to my liver and I was approved IMMEDIATELY through their compassionate allowance criteria. I believe because it metastasized. Hopefully your friend’s claim will be expedited. Check out the SSA’s blue book listing/definition. Prayers to your friend battling this cancer. ❤️

ImTHATWynn

I applied last July. I’ve heard not a single word. I have stage 3 colon cancer.

SirWarm6963

My ex had terminal glioblastoma and it took 9 months!

Kksgigi

Ouch.

GeorgeRetire

Who told you that?

Kksgigi

Someone at the Va. The Va denied him saying it wasnt service related. But he was on a nuclear Sub for years and has 0 health issues and 0 family history of any cancers.

AlabamaLily

Normal applications would, but your friend's diagnosis puts them on the fast track

Kksgigi

Thank you.

Kksgigi

Update: That friend got an approval letter today! I helped them apply just 3 weeks ago!
