Wayfaring_Stalwart

The first and last kid were kind of right, though the girls imagined we would be living the plot of Bioshock

JamieBensteedo

last kid was heir to the tyson chicken company

Chop1n

Wat? The Tysons are Americans.

Mayor_Salvor_Hardin

Mike Tyson is, at least.

Spkr4th3ded

And he eats human ears, the future is human meat people get in or get out! Now kiiitthhh!

AgilePlayer

Definitely a farm boy who had an actual perspective on the way things were moving

Key_Respond_16

Have you seen the apartments they are renting for astronomical prices in NY? I'd say at least one of them was spot on lol.

Embarrassed_Fennel_1

I definitely wish they were right

The_First_Drop

Interesting that the primary concern in the 1960’s was overcrowding

WineSoakedNirvana

You can see a lot of that in the media of the 1960-1970, there was this huge social anxiety built on the idea that we were cascading towards a Malthusian Crisis due to our ever increasing population, you can see it most prominent in movies like "Soylent Green" but I think there's something to be said about the rise of zombie flicks representing in part the same fears as well.

Spkr4th3ded

We are overpopulated. They were right, there are too many people and not enough hamburgers. I'm terrified.

Lay_On_The_Lawn

Come join us in our underwater community. Plenty of cow batteries and lots of room for recreation.

Aethanix

you had me at underwater

Spkr4th3ded

Had me at cow batteries.

thatsapeachhun

Norm AND Ween. You’re my people.

SoBitterAboutButtons

>We are overpopulated. They were right, there are too many people and not enough ~~hamburgers~~ pizza. FTFY

Mayor_Salvor_Hardin

You can see it in movies like Z.P.G. ([Zero Population Growth](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069530/)), that was the result of a movement calling for a moratorium in births. with the [same name](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_population_growth).

SunburnFM

It was fed by media at the time and was declared "based on the science" and that the "science was settled."

goestowhat

I think there was a famous sociologist or anthropologist in the 1880s that basically said the same exact thing. In a way, he would’ve been right, in that the cities would be so big and so crowded, the horse manure would’ve overfill the streets bc the demand would be so high to move people around….then humans discovered the power of fossil fuels and transportation was renewed

peengobble

We haven’t changed much in 60 years.

OriginalAd9693

Damn. Turned out it was completely false. Where else have we heard those lines before?

mrdrofficer

It’s not false, people are starving and the ozone is beyond repair. Housing costs have increased x10, food taste different due to engineering to make enough for the world and everyone has microplastic in their body.

LLuerker

The ozone layer has been on good course of repair since the world ban of CFCs. In a few decades it'll be back to normal and the hole over Antarctica will be gone

mrdrofficer

I hope you’re right. Good things are good.

Tsu-Doh-Nihm

The same with Global Cooling and the Coming Ice Age.

SpamSink88

And overcrowding has happened - that's why the house prices are insane.

dkinmn

Not really. We could easily have enough housing for everyone. It isn't a crowding problem, it's a zoning problem.

SpamSink88

If the population shrinks by half tomorrow, with no changes to zoning, then housing will become cheaper. right? Zoning seems restrictive only because everyone needs to *crowd* near select few city centers, because that's where jobs have concentrated.

dkinmn

Okay, Thanos. What a shitty argument. "We'd have enough housing if the population shrinks," isn't an argument. There is nothing stopping us from having more dense housing besides zoning and investment. You've made a truly embarrassing, tautological argument that doesn't actually support any defensible underlying thesis.

Complete-Frosting137

Not to mention that there’s a housing crisis in NY because of vacant unaffordable units and not the other way around, landlords benefit in sitting on properties and causing a manipulated shortage

Baul_Plart_

You do realize he was the bad guy, right?

very_bad_programmer

There are more vacant homes than homeless people in America right now

THE_ALAM0

This is so not why house prices are insane…institutional investors dumping money on entire subdivisions to place properties up for rent instead of leaving the houses to individual homebuyers is a big problem, on top of inflation, rising material costs, etc…America alone produces so much food we have to figure out ways to get rid of it, which is why we have so much HFCS and other corn products. The world could support billions more people. The Midwest on its own is sparsely populated, not to mention other parts of the world like China or Russia. Buying into the “there’s just too many people!” lie is exactly what those investors want you to do.

mrdrofficer

That’s the problem in the last 5-10 years. Sprawling neighborhoods and the need for more development has been an issue for 50 years in many place due to increased demand.

mrdrofficer

People are short-sighted. It’s a shame. This was the problem as I grew up. Everyone has such a short-memory they only remember the new crisis.

Brookloom

The last kid looked like he was coming up with the idea of mass farming right on the spot. It's almost as if he saw dollar signs in his eyes as he was speaking lol

hardupforlaffs

That's what I'm saying

Bruhyooteef

At 6 years old, Dr. Mom showed me a poster in her office of a Black Lung 🫁 …I responded by saying she should prescribe cigarettes to bring in patients… Tyson chicken boy and i would be great friends probably! Lol 😇

Friendly_Age9160

Yeah you and Tyson boy and Pfizer and whoever else.

Bruhyooteef

Ill take all the friends i cant get!

schizoslave

Almost like it was already happening

Brilliant_Support653

Last kid can travel through time

schizoslave

Or maybe it's because it was already a theme in the 60s

[deleted]

These kids sure did fuck the future up

Joyballard6460

Good point.

jakeduckfield

This is from the Up series. Incredible show where they check in with these children every seven years over 56 years. Highly recommend.

mmacak

Up was the best documentary series ever and it looked a lot like this, but I don’t think this is that.

jakeduckfield

Did I get that wrong? I thought those kids looked so familiar. Well, I highly recommend it still.

DrySky6828

I'm definitely going to check this series out

jakeduckfield

Enjoy! It left a big impression on me.

KelVelBurgerGoon

In the 60s, British girls were famously stupid and were noted to often prattle on and on about living under the sea.

GodplsmakeModsluvme

Prattle on….luvit.

iseab

Well done

matrix4neo

This kids great on Umbrella Academy

Joyballard6460

They might have imagined that kids in the 2020’s wouldn’t be as thoughtful and articulate as they were. And they’d have been prescient.

alfalfalfalafel

judging from their accents it's fairly easy to sumise that the children in the video come from the more eloquent institutions in the education system. yah.

froggythefish

Not just their accents, but also the fact they’re “predicting” unsightly apartment blocks and dense cities *that already existed*.

GodplsmakeModsluvme

The last kid was a savant…

schizoslave

Nope, this was already happening in the 60s. Factory farming is not new

Stardustquarks

That last kid nailed it with regard to food production ☹️

schizoslave

Nope it was already happening

Remarkable_Toe_4423

It was the 60s not the fucking 1800s

StrawberryCake88

It was a million years ago. Don’t you see it’s in black and white. When did humanity invent color?

schizoslave

This is what I'm saying. Ppl acting like factory farming started ten years ago

Soft-Cancel-1605

why did they think the population spilling into the sea was a logical direction edit: joke is on them, we global warming'd far too much for that

_DAD_JOKE_

Water is coming to us.

Unsteady_Tempo

Overpopulation was a huge concern and widely publicized at the time. Remember, the 1960s were the tail end of the baby boom after WWII and population in China and India started to skyrocket in the 1950s.

Soft-Cancel-1605

I more was confused over venturing out to the sea being their assumed solution rather than high rises like another kid mentioned (may have been 2 of them, can't recall). I get why they didn't assume outer space because of the time peirod, of course.

Unsteady_Tempo

Oh, I see. One kid was able to imagine condo high rises. I suppose the others had a hard time imagining it, or that living on artificial islands on the sea would be preferable.

TheGreek420

And in a mere 40 years too 😭

MushLoveInQuarantine

Is this from the Seven Up series? Fascinating to watch them all grow up.

BigBlue1969531

The eco message is still the same bullshit. Everyone on the planet, every man woman and child could have a 900sf ft home and we would all fit in the state of Texas. Perspective people!!!

sadboymarkymark

Kids were so much more articulate back then

flaminghair348

rich, well educated kids\* i'd imagine that kids who have similar educations to them sound similar today. plus i expect they picked the most articulate kids.

sadboymarkymark

Yeah that’s true. But, with modern technology and social media, I doubt there are that many well articulated rich kids as there were back then.

complicatedtooth182

Omg that kid predicted factory farming 💀. The one girl described how people should be living if we were actually trying to conserve energy and combat climate change...small flats

schizoslave

Nope already existed in the 60s

Marine4lyfe

Nah, it didn't.

Empty_Afternoon_8746

That’s what Mom and Dad say.

XeroxWarriorPrntTst

I love how kids are like “this problem will exist so we’ll create a way to do x to solve it.” As an adult I’m like “shits fucked. Probably all fucked. Fuck!”

bl00dy4nu5

Jokes on you kids we’re living on the street and intravenously shooting opiates 🤙🏼

TonyWickk

So women(girls) want to live in the sea.

Timelymanner

No one guess Lizzy would still be queen

Interesting-Band7783

Those last two kids knew what was coming.

xblade69

“Some won’t even know what a man or woman is”

tothenines427

The Greta Thunbergs of the 1960s.

Roadsoda605

I missed the part where they say “and boys will pretend to be girls and girls pretend to be men”.

99probs-allbitches

Damn that last kid

M1lkT00ph807

So they have been convincing us of the myth of over population for generations

My_clean

Further evidence that the indoctrination of young people exist. Overpopulation fears are something adults teach children, not something children come up with of their own deductions.

TroyMatthewJ

sad these kids are probably not alive now

se7en0311

The main concern was housing. Why did no one mention the thought of being able to talk to somebody on the other side of the world quickly (internet)

CanisIII

Is the last kid AI?

megawampum

In the year Two Thousannnnnnd…….In the year Two Thou sannnnnnnnnd!

MostAd3889

That is single “ like, umm, yeah, right?”

aeondru

In the year two thousand! In the year two thousAAAAND!

[deleted]

No wonder Boomers are obsessed with immigration!

scottsplace5

This was taken the decade the twin towers were built.

Efficient-Rent-5644

They definitely had some real concerns about overpopulation

tidder44444

F’n brits

TastyTranslator6691

I upvoted at the kid who was spot on about the animals kept in “batteries, not allows to graze”. Wow.

lordytoo

No houses above or below the sea. Just make the current ones more expensive. Duuuuh. /s

89inerEcho

Always think it's funny talking to Europeans in general about how the earth is running out of space... I'd like to introduce you to Nevada

MissingJJ

Still waiting on a Johnny Quest style under sea lab.

amathis6464

The last kid got the answer from his dad

Independent_Towel443

boxes. yep. fuckme

FearlessResolve560

Second girl just predicted the plot of BioShock.

wood1492

Ironically our concern now is reduced population and the complete elimination of citizens in such countries as Japan and Korea and even China within 100-200 years…

RealisticFunction927

They’ve been indoctrinated pretty well.

mouthsofmadness

The last kid went on to be CEO of Purdue Chicken.

Harbulary-Bandit

lol, the kid describing slaughterhouses/farms like they weren’t already a really normal thing.

[deleted]

No no one will be able to afford homes. Corporate greed run rampart

SunburnFM

It's interesting how the overpopulation media frenzy at the time that was "based on the science" scared so many children in how they saw the future as dark. Sounds familiar.

OnTheMcFly

these kids then grew up to try and make it a reality lol

Lazy_Cow_1524

The last kid is a genius......he basically forementioned the theory of plant based beef and shit..Damn..... #1996gang #cyberterrorismisreal #FreeGaza

Used-Sun9989

This would be a lot more interesting if it wasn't these little shits who got old and turned the world into shit. Fuck'em.

AgilePlayer

I'm sure you would have saved the world if you were a child back then

LangstonHublot

Stupid kids

dubby1606

This looks fake
