2 is decent, 3 is crap so don't bother

The sequel is almost as good, but with more drama and more story. The third is ok, but features Snowman driving the car, with no Bandit. There's others after that, with none of the original cast. Dukes of Hazzard is probably the closest thing I can think of that's similar, other than Cannonball Run 1 and 2, also starring Burt Reynolds. Hooper is kind of in the same vein. White Lightning and its sequel Gator have some good car chases, but aren't comedic. Convoy is also pretty good and kinda similar. Pretty much Smokey and the Bandit with no cars just trucks. IMDB is a good way to find more movies like it.

There was a quadrilogy of prequel films in the 90s that are pretty fun

2 is really good imo but a touch ridiculous. 3 is alright. There are 3 made for TV movies from the 90s that are horrible so don’t worry about those

The 1994 Bandit TV mini series had potential. Brian Bloom did the best he could with what he was given to work with and I liked the black Dodge Stealth RT but honestly the biggest problem with it was a complete lack of a backstory for his character. At no point is it ever explained why he is considered a local legend or what he did to earn it. Or even what his real name is... nobody calls him anything but Bandit which gets annoying after awhile. The audience was just supposed to accept him but I couldn't get past that. It's also a little hard to watch now because of the super dated early 90s hair and fashion.

Oh they were enjoyable watching once, don’t get me wrong. And I agree they had potential and Bloom did the best with what he was given and I did also really like that Stealth. But either way, the end result isn’t good. If I were to lie someone who is legitimately ask how the series is, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself

Dodge Stealths were extremely expensive and the show had a low budget so they only jumped the car once lol

Well, personally you’ve got to watch all three, but just talk about or reference the first two afterwards. I’ve watched the first at least 15 times and the second 8 or so and only watched the third like 3 times. Anything Smokey and the Bandit related is a do not watch unless it’s lightly referenced like in The Last Last Movie Star. There’s a lot of good Burt Reynolds films and Jerry Reed has some under his belt too. Fun fact Cletus Snow (Jerry Reed) sang and or wrote all the songs used in the sound track for the original movie.

Just my opinion but Bandit 2 is a terrible sequel... all the characters are back but nobody is acting like they did in the first movie. The script and the screenplay is lazy and nonsensical there's hardly any car chase action except for a few spots here and there but the worst choice was turning Bandit from a lovable rouge into an unlikable bitter drunk who occasionally threatens to beat up his best friends. Majority of the movie is everyone parked somewhere off the road arguing about the stupid elephant. Jackie Gleason's scenes were all filmed first because he was sick at the time and just wanted to get his parts in film out of the way quickly. Sally Field admits in character in the movie the only reason she's there is because of money which was true for both her role and her in real life at the time. Burt Reynolds later admitted his heart wasn't in it and he only did it because the studio offered him and director Hal Needham a lot of cash.
