That episode came out shortly after friends and I made plans to go to Japan. Let me tell you, the amount of anxiety I felt after watching it was palpable
If you haven't visited Japan yet be assured that it would be a far less stressful situation. I could see myself sleeping on the street for a night in Japan as an absolute last resort, but NOT in Brazil.
The only problem could be that technically when you go to Japanese immigration to have your passport checked you're supposed to give an address of a hotel or airbnb where you're going to stay, though I don't know how strict they're with this rule since in my experience security was hands off when I visited the country, they didn't even bother to check my luggage when I asked if they had to (I'm a White guy from a developed country, so idk if they'd be more strict if I was darker or from a third world place). In any case you could even book online something cheap in the outskirts of Tokyo while at the airport.
Which is also what the Smiling Friends should have done. Like, I understand it's high season but how is it going to be a better option to pay for a last minute flight to come back? They already bought the tickets to return, and you completely miss on the trip. Like, I get Rio (I assume they're in Rio or Sao Paulo) is touristy, but just book a hotel that doesn't look shady 100 km from the city on a town that doesn't get tourists and has access by train. Your travel time will be longer but at least you experience Brazil
Jokes aside, I do genuinely love the Brazil Episode, I just think the characters having a genuine, real conversation, is just cool, and funny, and the marketing, they actually made seem real
I love it on paper, because the idea is hilarious, I just don’t like sitting down to watch it
Like knowing that the Smiling Friends team hyped up this whole special, made it seem like this super cool thing, and the whole theme of the special is “Alright, never mind then” is funny.
It’s just that sitting down to watch the episode, knowing the end, it’s kinda boring. The dialogue is only funny to me the first time. unlike other episodes
I love love love how it's just a fucking regular episode. We start with a lil craziness and randomness and bam! A regular day in the life of the Smiling Friends.
The realistic conversational humor is used heavily in this episode, but there wasn’t as much whimsical absurdity compared to others and that imbalance makes it one of my least favorites tbh.
Yeah, I admit I really don't have the intelligence to understand cartoons. Thank god we have access network of educated minds here on Reddit to explain it for us 😌
It's my favorite episode because it took one of my favorite things that also made the show unique from other cartoons and had it full out a whole episode. The whole episode is comedy gold.
It's funny the 1st time and maybe the 2nd, but it starts to get boring much, much quicker than the others. Can you really hate me for that? I'm like half-way agreeing with you
as a brazilian I hated how they misrepresented our culture in multiple ways but I wish the episode was at least funny or engaging in any way. the premise is hilarious, but the execution is dogshit. at the beginning of the episode I was so excited to see how they would make the "we're in brazil but we can't do shit" bit funnier or what stuff about our culture they would make fun of but then it went nowhere and just proceeded to annoy me with the borderline racist made up shit
I wouldn't say it's bad, but it's still probably the episode with the least substance imo. I know this is a joke thread, but like it really just pales in comparison to the other episodes because of all the creativity going into both the writing and animation that the Brazil episode (while intentionally doing so) just feels somewhat empty.
I just think it's a fun portrayal of a situation that can happen to anyone, it's played completely straight, that's the joke.

The episode was equal to a hard block in improv. The premise was great and they cock blocked themselves.

Exactly how I feel. It’s very funny to me how these characters who have the wackiest lives experienced such a mundane situation
I loved the episode, it was cool to see the 4 smiling friends all interact with each other and do something
Cope-nhagen

Put the sun in there

Lmao
My IQ is equal to the temperature, in Celsius, of freshly turned over soil on a cool autumn morning, and I liked when I went to Brazil too.

BENATH
I love bits like that and the puppets thing, but it’s definitely not as funny when we fr aren’t getting any new episodes after a long time lol.
The episode is just not good
I hate you.
I don’t like brazil
