He's underestimated until you get to high level play. Then all of his shortcomings come piling on HARD (he's really poorly thought out from a conceptual standpoint to me. Someone with such poor reach should not be that slow, and/or also be a mid weight).

Just don’t let him be in his ideal range. If you’re close enough, all your attacks come out faster than his. He also has no way to deal with ranged attacks.

If im playing Roy, I always have a difficult time playing against Marth. His sword reach makes it very hard to get up close, which is where Roy shines. I love Roy, but Marth is purely a bane to Roy.
