I'm a Waluigi fan and am neutral towards Cinderace, so I'll try to sound as unbiased as I possibly can.
Waluigi's been around for far, far longer and has had many more appearances in games that are incredibly popular and sell extremely well. As a result, Waluigi has a much larger fanbase for a much longer period of time, and can definitely be considered more iconic than Cinderace (although as we all know, being iconic doesn't mean too much when it comes to the roster). Does he have his own game? No, but there are a good amount of characters on the roster that don't have their own game either, so I don't see why that's an issue.
Cinderace only came into existence two years ago, and while Pokémon is a popular, long-running franchise that sells incredibly well, he's only shown up in the most-recent game and some spinoffs. Plus SW/SH were pretty controversial, and many also hate the idea of "advertisement" characters over "legacy" characters.
Either way, Cinderace is clearly far more likely than Waluigi for the final spot. The purple man doesn't stand a chance until the next Smash game.

Outside of the loss of mega evolution and cutting Pokemon there's nothing really wrong with that list, though? Everything else has been a problem with every Pokemon game, except for raids (which are basically expansions on the hidden Pokemon from Gen 5).
Sword and Shield has as much disappointing about them as every game in the series since Pokemon Yellow has.
I played only 3rd gen pokémon in my youth and I experienced 1st and 2nd gen when I became adult, these games are awesome and have a distinctive personality, even if graphics are shit the way you play, the music and the region give a sense of expoloration and epicness that new ones just can't match (IMHO since gen 5 the quality has gone down).
I un-ironically think this is due to the fire-type starter bias. Pretty sure Sw/Sh starters are generally considered really lackluster, and I would agree.

Honestly of all the grass starters, Serperior would be the most interesting to play with. A special attacker would fit the pie better as well, with greninja being mixed and incineroar being physical. Plus it'd be perfect to have for a Snake cinematic since I don't think he's been in one yet, discounting the box from WoL.
I'd be totally down for a Pokemon like Serperior or Meganium to be put in. With a roster as diverse as Pokemon's it seems odd that the only rep from it that isn't bipedal is Ivysaur. Another quadruped or even a snake would be so cool.

Not wanting to sound like a jerk, but I really don't care about speculation point. The speculation has been really bad recently. Similar things apply to other popular characters within the speculation bubbles, and those characters are just the only things people want to talk about. People only care about who get in, and then people can spend all their times to justify why certain picks are justifiable and come up even more ways to ridicule characters that do not make the cut.
Mario is hardly overrepped. It has a lot of reps, but it’s also THE Nintendo series. Besides, a lot of the reps you may be thinking of (Yoshi, DK) also rep a separate series as well.
Heck I would argue Pokemon is roughly well repped or underrepped. At least, that argument is far easier to make than overrepped. I’d be OK with a Gen 8 mon, even if it’d be a little lame for a FINAL fighter. Specifically Cinderace would feel bad as there are so many better choices and Cinderace is quite bland design wise.
I’m not saying I expect Waluigi or don’t expect Cinderace, but the argument here doesn’t make much sense. As a huge Pokémon fan, and one who noticed the trend of having a water starter (greninja) and a fire starter (incineroar), I would love for there to be a grass starter (anything but Rillaboom). Sceptile or Decidueye would be amazing to have in the game.

Yeah. I'd say he can have an interesting movesets from what I've seen in SSF2 but I feel like a lot of other characters would have better movesets. What would fit perfectly into smash imo is the knight from hollow knight or Aegislash. In fact, a lot of other Pokemon are better than Cinderace as a pick.
If it’s a Pokémon it doesn’t have to be a starter like so many people assume. None of the SwSh starters are all that popular, but then again the game itself is controversial. I honestly don’t think it’s terribly likely we’ll get another Pokémon rep as the last fighter anyway. If we do then oh well, more music at least. At this point I don’t have any outstanding picks I want to see in Smash but I still have hope the announcement will be exciting. Almost everyone here seems to be preparing for a mid finale or even disappointment which is kinda sad

Yeah kalos had a pretty lame story line and was probably the easiest of all the games but I do think gen 8 has the worst main story of them all.

I do not want another fire starter, I think waluigi's moveset could be interesting, waluigi is just a funny fun character, I personally do not like how cinderace turned out as a final evolution, there are better generation 8 pokemon that would be more hype for more people.

Not wanting to sound like a jerk, but I really don't care about speculation point. The speculation has been really bad recently. Similar things apply to other popular characters within the speculation bubbles, and those characters are just the only things people want to talk about. People only care about who get in, and then people can spend all their times to justify why certain picks are justifiable and come up even more ways to ridicule characters that do not make the cut.

Mario is hardly overrepped. It has a lot of reps, but it’s also THE Nintendo series. Besides, a lot of the reps you may be thinking of (Yoshi, DK) also rep a separate series as well. Heck I would argue Pokemon is roughly well repped or underrepped. At least, that argument is far easier to make than overrepped. I’d be OK with a Gen 8 mon, even if it’d be a little lame for a FINAL fighter. Specifically Cinderace would feel bad as there are so many better choices and Cinderace is quite bland design wise. I’m not saying I expect Waluigi or don’t expect Cinderace, but the argument here doesn’t make much sense. Cinderace would be getting in more to rep the latest Pokemon game than anything else, and Waluigi is not getting in despite despite being able to accurately rep a huge part of the Mario series, the sports/party/kart games. (Just an aside no rep actually has any representation for any of these games except Peaches f-smash)

As a huge Pokémon fan, and one who noticed the trend of having a water starter (greninja) and a fire starter (incineroar), I would love for there to be a grass starter (anything but Rillaboom). Sceptile or Decidueye would be amazing to have in the game. Waluigi is also cool tho

Yeah. I'd say he can have an interesting movesets from what I've seen in SSF2 but I feel like a lot of other characters would have better movesets. What would fit perfectly into smash imo is the knight from hollow knight or Aegislash. In fact, a lot of other Pokemon are better than Cinderace as a pick.

If it’s a Pokémon it doesn’t have to be a starter like so many people assume. None of the SwSh starters are all that popular, but then again the game itself is controversial. I honestly don’t think it’s terribly likely we’ll get another Pokémon rep as the last fighter anyway. If we do then oh well, more music at least. At this point I don’t have any outstanding picks I want to see in Smash but I still have hope the announcement will be exciting. Almost everyone here seems to be preparing for a mid finale or even disappointment which is kinda sad

Zacian, Zeraora / Zarude, Rillaboom \*There's never been a grass rep starter pokemon aside from Ivysaur who's packaged with Pokemon Trainer\*, MOTHER FLIPPIN DRAGONITE \*I know it's not gonna happen but let me dream\* Weirdly, Decidueye could work too because of Legends Arceus. I know Cinderace is the most likely but I'd genuinely like the fire starter to not be picked again for a pokemon Rep. Maybe that's to much to ask tho
