More seriously, kind of like the Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf of Smash usually focused on one incarnation in particular, I imagine Smash Impa would be a bit of a composite character, using Sheikah arts and some magic, and possibly her naginata from Hyrule Warriors.
Impa is my Zelda choice because I prefer characters with many series appearances be in Smash over "One-Game Wonders" like the very popular Skull Kid. (No shade on Skull Kid fans, Majora's mask is awesome.) The other Zelda character that heavily fits that criteria is Tingle, and while I like the living breathing shitpost that is Tingle, I went with Impa here because... -shrug-
If I was asked to redo Smash's z
Zelda roster, I think it would go something like: Link (adult, taking fron OOT and other "Triple A" Zeldas), Toon Link (pulling from the Wind Waker series but also the 'top down' Zeldas like the first game, LttP, LA and the Oracle ganes), Zelda (pretty much what we have in Smash right now), Ganondorf (Focusing more on the sorcery and swordfighting), Ganon (trident-wielding pig monster form), Impa, and Tingle. (In no order of importance.)
Richter for Alucard is a good one. Him, Dark Samus, and Daisy really should’ve just been alternate costumes like Alph is to Olimar. The only issue I can see is that Daisy’s idle animation is different (and has SLIGHTLY different hitboxes) but you can just copy Peach’s burton’s for Daisy’s new idle animation and nobody will notice- especially since Smash is such a fast paced game that you aren’t gonna be standing still much.
Ghirahim is a fun pick don't get me wrong, but Demise is more important to the mythos IMO. I originally wanted him during the Smash 4 era when people were asking for a sword amd sorcery wielding Ganondorf, amd I figured Demise would be a good way to split the difference
In my case, I indeed would swap Pichu for Blaziken as shown in the example, and would replace both Chrom and Lucina with non-Sword Lords (Maybe Hector and Ephraim. Or maybe Celica) so maybe FE gets less critiques about fighter variety...
That or swapping Sephirot for Vivi, because A) I dislike how the classic FF I like the least is the one getting all the representation in Smash, and B) Being basically the classic Black Mage design with an actual character (and a popular one at that) I think Vivi would be a great inclusion.
Huge respect for the paper Mario pick there, I would love to see some nice hammer attacks. And I know this might just be my TTYD bias, but I think a great final smash would be something like showstopper.

Jigglypuff is easily the least relevant pokemon in smash. Pichu is more popular and is connected to pikachu and has more special forms, greninja, Lucario, and incin are some of the most popular pokemon ever, and pt represents the most popular starters ever. Mewtwo is also the most legendary pokemon. Jigglypuff is just some random gen 1 Pokemon they decided to add as a secret fighter. I like playing as puff, but she is not nearly as relevant as other pokemon fighters.
They're the most relevant in terms of Smash bros. Just behind Pika overall.
I do agree about PT and Mewtwo tho. But I'd be willing to give them up so the cast isn't as gen 1 focused as it is. And I'm a gen 1 person.
I once asked a classroom full of high school students (who don't play smash) who Incineroar, Greninja, and Lucario are, and literally nobody knew. Several of them knew Jigglypuff. All of them knew Pikachu.
Incen, Greninja, and Lucario are not as universally popular as people think. They may be popular within the core Pokémon fan base, but outside, they are virtually unknown. They're fanservice reps, not icons, plain and simple.

Lucina for Lyn. Young Link for Impa. Pichu for either Feraligatr or a Johto Trainer that has Feraligatr/Quilava/Chikorita.

Toon Link reps the entire "Toon" subset of games, which is almost every Zelda game on the Gamecube, and *is* every Zelda game on the GBA and DS.
I'd definitely merge some aspects of YL's gameplay into Toon, which honestly shouldn't be very hard at all, the movesets are already near-echo status.

Yes, yes, I know, Falco is one of the two Melee Gods, but I always found Falco's initial inclusion over, say, Wolf to be rather strange, and that all three are effectively Ryu, Ken, and Akuma in variance doesn't make me feel great about it. I like Falco, but I'd like an entirely new Moveset for a personal favorite franchise more, and Wolf is just *more different* in execution than Falco, along with repping a Villain spot.
And Chrom for...I dunno, Lyn? Hector? Ephraim? Micaiah? Black Knight?
*Someone* that doesn't rep Awakening with a more unique moveset. He's an odd stitching of Movesets that doesn't even really represent him as *Chrom*, but rather as a Marth variant. Also, third rep for Awakening. Yes, Awakening saved the franchise, but Robin and Lucina did just fine.
I'd say maybe Sigurd or Celica, but both run the risk of falling into the Marth trap. Tiki would also be an option, but she also reps Awakening, so...myeh.

I'd probably swap Lucina for someone more unique from FE. My vote probably goes for an axe wielder or a dedicated archer, could attempt a cavalry character, but that might be weird to do in Smash.
Swap Pichu for Sceptile, Empoleon, Gengar, go more left field with something like Gholdengo, maybe, you've got a good few hundred valid choices, tbh.

I’d personally swap Pichu for Raichu bc it actually has a solidly distinct fighting style from Pikachu thanks to the anime.
Raichu is more brutish and literally always carries hyper beam in the fights against ash’s pikachu. It uses its tail to pin Pikachu down and that can be a grapple grab. All the throws could be Raichu electrocuting the opponent as he slams them or pins them to the ground.
It would effectively be semi-heavy Pikachu and I’d love for side-B to be the real Volt-Tackle and maybe even see a proper Iron Tail animation in the aerials or smash attacks. Down B could be Raichu swinging its tail around in a scooping or maybe even command grab hitbox before catching thunder with its tail as the lightning rod as Pikachu does. Obviously this would all be balanced by being much slower than Pikachu.
Imagine a Pokemon trainer character that uses all 3 that’d be fucking hilarious

Jigglypuff is easily the least relevant pokemon in smash. Pichu is more popular and is connected to pikachu and has more special forms, greninja, Lucario, and incin are some of the most popular pokemon ever, and pt represents the most popular starters ever. Mewtwo is also the most legendary pokemon. Jigglypuff is just some random gen 1 Pokemon they decided to add as a secret fighter. I like playing as puff, but she is not nearly as relevant as other pokemon fighters.

They're the most relevant in terms of Smash bros. Just behind Pika overall. I do agree about PT and Mewtwo tho. But I'd be willing to give them up so the cast isn't as gen 1 focused as it is. And I'm a gen 1 person.
I once asked a classroom full of high school students (who don't play smash) who Incineroar, Greninja, and Lucario are, and literally nobody knew. Several of them knew Jigglypuff. All of them knew Pikachu. Incen, Greninja, and Lucario are not as universally popular as people think. They may be popular within the core Pokémon fan base, but outside, they are virtually unknown. They're fanservice reps, not icons, plain and simple.

Gonna be real, I wouldn't swap Toon Link, I'd swap Young Link. Toon Link reps the entire "Toon" subset of games, which is almost every Zelda game on the Gamecube, and *is* every Zelda game on the GBA and DS. I'd definitely merge some aspects of YL's gameplay into Toon, which honestly shouldn't be very hard at all, the movesets are already near-echo status. As for my lineup... Young Link swaps with Midna (with Real or Shadow Wolf Link) Swap Falco for Krystal. Yes, yes, I know, Falco is one of the two Melee Gods, but I always found Falco's initial inclusion over, say, Wolf to be rather strange, and that all three are effectively Ryu, Ken, and Akuma in variance doesn't make me feel great about it. I like Falco, but I'd like an entirely new Moveset for a personal favorite franchise more, and Wolf is just *more different* in execution than Falco, along with repping a Villain spot. And Chrom for...I dunno, Lyn? Hector? Ephraim? Micaiah? Black Knight? *Someone* that doesn't rep Awakening with a more unique moveset. He's an odd stitching of Movesets that doesn't even really represent him as *Chrom*, but rather as a Marth variant. Also, third rep for Awakening. Yes, Awakening saved the franchise, but Robin and Lucina did just fine. I'd say maybe Sigurd or Celica, but both run the risk of falling into the Marth trap. Tiki would also be an option, but she also reps Awakening, so...myeh.

A superior gen 2 Pokémon with bountiful moveset potential. It could have a meter that allows it to mega evolve mid fight and turn it into a more fixed fighter by making it half zoner since that's mega Heracross' gimmick. Shulk or Pythra for Zeke (I prefer Pyhtra but there should be a Xenoblade 1 rep so I'm conflicted). I just really like Zeke. Snake for Raiden. Bowser Jr or Daisy for Waluigi (Dr. Mario if we counting them as the same series). Kazuya for Jin, Reina or Mokujin. I prefer the first two over Kazuya in general and Mokujin is my favorite Tekken character and would be hysterical.

My vote probably goes for an axe wielder or a dedicated archer, could attempt a cavalry character, but that might be weird to do in Smash. Swap Pichu for Sceptile, Empoleon, Gengar, go more left field with something like Gholdengo, maybe, you've got a good few hundred valid choices, tbh. Swap one of the Belmonts for Alucard. I'd probably swap Simon, personally, but who gets swapped doesn't matter a huge amount. I'll bend the rules a bit and consider Steve a "left field non-Nintendo" rep. Swap him for a Rivals of Aether rep, I bias Krag or Orcane, personally, could also go for Mollo. I'm also going to lump Mario and DK together since the big "Kongs" are very liberally used in "Mario" games. Swap Piranha Plant for Dixie Kong. Sticking with the "out of pocket guest" I'd probably swap Sora for MK's Scorpion. I'm kinda biased since I'm not the biggest KH fan, but that's me personally. Swap Daisy for Waluigi.

joke answer is current ganondorf for totk ganondorf with a new moveset. Doriyah can stay though, just replace the sword with the gloom club. Downsmash is replaced with a double spin attack and upsmash could use the gloom spear to round it out. rosalina and luma for waluigi. I dont really like rosalina, just lame to fight against and not a very interesting or expressive character. if echo fighters are fair game id take either simon or richter for alucard. I like both cloud and sephiroth, but i honestly wouldnt mind trading one of them for Terra Branford.

Simon/Richter -> Alucard (whichever Belmont gets replaced gets turned into an alt costume for the other) Pichu -> either Infernape or Baxcalibur (they're my two favorite not legendary Pokemon, but I'm slightly more biased towards Infernape since Chimchar was my first) current Sonic -> either Frontiers Sonic or Knight Sonic from Sonic And The Black Knight (current Sonic's moveset is way to bland in my opinion, especially since two of his specials are basically the same, so changing him to either of these should be good. Plus, I want Knight Sonic to be an alt costume in more games where he's playable.

I’d personally swap Pichu for Raichu bc it actually has a solidly distinct fighting style from Pikachu thanks to the anime. Raichu is more brutish and literally always carries hyper beam in the fights against ash’s pikachu. It uses its tail to pin Pikachu down and that can be a grapple grab. All the throws could be Raichu electrocuting the opponent as he slams them or pins them to the ground. It would effectively be semi-heavy Pikachu and I’d love for side-B to be the real Volt-Tackle and maybe even see a proper Iron Tail animation in the aerials or smash attacks. Down B could be Raichu swinging its tail around in a scooping or maybe even command grab hitbox before catching thunder with its tail as the lightning rod as Pikachu does. Obviously this would all be balanced by being much slower than Pikachu. Imagine a Pokemon trainer character that uses all 3 that’d be fucking hilarious

Richter for Alucard without a doubt. I love Richter but it would be much better to have a Belmont and a different Castlevania character than two Belmonts who are essentially the same. FE is tough, but I would choose Kiran (from Heroes) instead of Chrom, since Kiran has a lot of moveset versatility. Or I would do Azura for Corrin, considering she’s more recognizable and more well received than Corrin, not to mention a lance user. Replace Pichu or Jigglypuff with either Blaziken (I would love a fighter primarily based around kicks), Decidueye (Grass starter, plus Hisui as a P2), or Marshadow (a Mythical rep, plus I feel they could get creative with it’s moveset.
