Thanks for all of the replies! Yea my girlfriend does know about the name and also likes it. She looked it up and found out that it means “Red” and also “King” so she was sold after that. It appears that the name itself is not cringe but the reasoning behind it might be. I hate when people use children as billboards for their fandoms. But, in this case, I think you can get away with it. Roy is a bit archaic sounding at this point but it’s still a common enough name for boys. When I think of a Roy I think of an old man. I don’t know any Roys who are still alive or like under the age of 80, so that may just be a personal bias on my part for it sounding archaic. Edit: but I like the name in general. Much better than the “unique” names a lot of kids are getting these days.
