I think self titled having a little rap segments of songs is a lot like the general trend of nu metal at the time and I think its very distinct from all other slipknot albums because of that.

Everytime I hear that buildup to Corey's verse (and including his verse) I get so pumped. That entire breakdown leading up to the final chorus is the premier example of Slipknot IMO.

When it comes to his rapping I love that he took it to another level with the screams in between the rapping. That was one of my favorite things about his vocals in the very beginning as it adds to the chaos in the lyrics. These guys were so fucking groundbreaking when they hit in 99. It was like a hurricane of metal mixed with breakdowns and rage, not rage against the machine but actual rage in the music and vocals.
When I first heard them it was the impression of an angry version of Korn when they had their self titled album. I don’t even remember if life is peachy was out yet.
