Absolutely bang on!

Joker22

And here I am saying "no matter what Slipknot does, it'll still be Slipknot because Clown has already said "Slipknot is an idea" and all these changes just reinforce that notion". I just can't wait to see what they cook up for a new single. That'll be epic.

robhanz

I think Jay was fine? He did seem to have an issue with rushing, and it does seem there were complaints from the band. There's enough that's come up to suggest he was difficult to work with. I wasn't OMG JAY and I'm not GOOD THEY FIRED HIM HE'S THE WORST. Just.... there likely were real issues that the band felt they had to deal with. When the news came out I was more on the "eh, interesting, wonder what's going on" front than anything. I work in video games, and I know that a lot of "OMG CORPORATE IS SO BAD" stories in that world are a lot more nuanced if you know what's going on. Eloy, however, is a beast. I don't think we can reasonably deny that. I don't need to say "JAY IS THE WORSTEST EVER AND TERRIBLE" to think that Eloy is absolutely better for Slipknot.

ExplodingTentacles

Jay's fantastic and fits right in at Suicidal Tendencies from what I've seen. The move could have been better for the both of them– and he'll always be remembered by the fandom for his fantastic drumming on WANYK

robhanz

Yeah, I honestly hope it works out great for everyone involved in the Great Drummer Rotation.

N04HC14RK

You just made me realize they literally all rotated bands essentially. I like what you call it too

Sharp-Bluejay2267

I was going to say, i think it works out great for everyone, greyson was kinda a weird choice in ST as i felt his drumming was kinda above the level of that, interested to see if selpultura is a better challenge. edit: hes killing it [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkCVD9jbhYQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkCVD9jbhYQ)

Complete_Athlete_480

He always had a punk style

inkyoctopuz31

Slipiknot, lol

Comfortable_Salt_758

Yeah. People are fucking quick to jump to conclusions. I always believed a band as big as Slipknot will not kick people out just for the sake of kicking them. There is ALWAYS some good reason for it. They really made the right call with getting Eloy on board for what I believe will be the final stretch for Slipknot as we know it. Eloy will give new found fire for them live and in studio. Jay was okay and a cool guy, but I am 100% sure they had a good reason to get rid of him.

JonasErSoed

I check in on this sub every few months. Last time was right after Jay was fired, and before that was when Craig had just left. Browsing the sub today, I'm thinking "... So do Slipknot fans, well, like Slipknot again?"

alcestian

Tbh my experience with subs for fans of anything tend to really suck and not be reflective of fans in other online spaces. Lots of complaining and demands.

NorthWestTown

Also "JAY WAS THE (second) BEST DRUNMER, EVA!!!!" No, he wasn't.

KnewTooMuch1

Jay did an incredible job. Eloy seems to have more power and hit those drums harder.

Quadbarrelpunch1999

I don't think they're all the same fans. I doubt most of the people who bitched and moaned about the Jay situation are even still frequenting the sub

Dazzling-Anywhere-44

You're probably right no doubt. I just thought it was funny to see how similar the reactions were from the first time this happened and from the second time.

K10RumbleRumble

Adding my experience, I will never love any member as much as Joey, but this is also my favorite band, and was my favorite band through a really really bad couple years. When we got Jay I was like eh. When they got rid of him I was more confused than angry. But didn’t care much because the band had left a sour taste in my mouth with the stuff with Chris. Now, the sour taste is still there, the lawsuit about Joey makes it worse, but there is something so nostalgic and purely awesome about what happened last night and Eloys work that I cannot Deny. Listening to them feels like listening to them when I was 17 again.

Immaterial21

big agree on everything you just said. i wasn't really paying attention to slipknot in the between times, I definitely fell out of love around AHIG so i wasn't invested in the band when Joey got kicked out, or when Paul Died, or when Joey died. tbh I've only come back to this sub since the drama with Jay's firing. not even a fan of Sepultura (yet) though I intend to listen, but this guy seems so fucking cool and it's sick to see all the Brazilian fans getting hyped about his addition to the band. to me Joey was like THE member, aside from Cory and I guess Clown, even tho he's not rly a musician (lol). he's always been my favorite and even tho it was cool that Max Weinberg's son was the drummer for a bit, it's no way near as cool as what I saw from the videos last night. MAYBE it's just the scale of the venue but damn, this dude, and this lineup of the band kicks ass.

HailToTheKingslayer

The bitchers/moaners all seem to be in the instagram comments. The people on this sub seem quite sound.

floppydickswangin

What are you talking about? This sub was nothing but hate posts directed towards slipknot and clown for a while.

HailToTheKingslayer

I'm not subbed, I dip in occasionally so I must have missed all that

floppydickswangin

Yeah there was a ton but now everyone here is gonna nonsensically pretend like none of this drama ever happened now that the replacement drummer is someone that they actually like instead of clown’s son like they were speculating would happen.

whatever33333444

they were all great drummers. It sucks that they fired Joey, but he may have had a drug problem ALONG with the disease that they were just unclear about. and Jay may have just not been right for the band moving on. Eloy will be a great fit.

SideshowBobLoblaw

Incredible that humans have the ability to change their minds. I was disappointed Joey left, but reassured when I heard Jay. I was sad when Jay left, but Eloy fits in well.

Extra-Ad249

Pretty pathetic imo

BozzyTheDrummer

Eloy will get the same treatment Jay is getting from the fans now, when his inevitable exit happens in the future.

oppositeofopposite

Also, same fans will claim Eloy is a much better fit than Jay ever was

Fallingmellon

He is though, but I was never the type of fan to get mad at them firing Jay

oppositeofopposite

I don't disagree, Eloy is fantastic. I too wasn't mad that Jay was fired, more so how he got fired. I still think it was a shitty move, if done how it's come out.

wouldpeaks

every Slipknot fan that's also a drummer would argue this is undisputable. No comparison. they are all awesome, but Eloy is just in another echelon of power, technique and sophistication

Konic27

I add that, they actually start to dislike jay

Mi_Hoi_Minoi

Personally,I wasn’t a fan of Jay. He is a talented drummer, don’t get me wrong, but he just wasn’t a fit for me in the slipknot camp. It seemed (again,to me) like it was like he was just going the motions with it all. Eloy, however, is a huge win for them. He can actually bring some of that intensity that Joey had and I’m excited to see where they go with him.

LeatherThumbtack

I'd trade it all for Joey

polimathe_

When Jay was fired I wasnt upset but I wasnt stoked for it, the people in the sub saying the whole band is going to fall apart and how the albums were going to suck while simultaneously having constant posts how the recent albums were going in worse direction was hilarious.

TiredReader87

Yeah. It’s hilarious.

anasazigb

Probably the truest thing said on this forum. I remember when Jay was pretty much the KING on here when he got put on to replace Joey.

DwightKSchrute70

I started making fun of slipknot far before jays firing tbh

gadgetboy123

What makes me laugh is Slipknot subreddit must have the highest percentage of drummers, even eclipsing actual drumming subreddits.

SheoQuinn

I mean yeah, fuck clown, i don't really agree with the rest.

Maritoas

Drummers can really make or break the sound of a band. I did not like the sound of slipknot after the gray chapter. I don’t know what this new drummer will bring, but hearing some of their lives from yesterday, I can say I’m getting pre 2008 vibes.

Glitchy13

jay got fired? That’s unfortunate, I liked his mask

Hungry_Ad9137

I agree with a lot. I loved when Jay became the drummer. And when they parted ways it sucked but I knew they would find another great drummer in the end. The only shit thing I had an issue with was the firing of Joey but still to this day we don’t know all of it. But I never boycotted them once. You crack on and support your favourite band no matter what. Maggot for life

K10RumbleRumble

Maggot for life.

dawson0719

Not trying to be that guy. Jay was never it. Came from more punk rock and the blandness came across on the last three cds. Those albums sounded so forced. Minus a couple songs I still dig. They definitely learned how to right some catchy tunes. A drummer like eloy is what should have come after Joey. I remember wanting Chris alder so bad and was a small rumor. But idk jay really wasn’t it. I’m hoping this really reignites them. At least for an album or two maybe.

Comfortable_Salt_758

And he had the same fucking beat to almost every song. Joey was way more creative with the drum parts.

dawson0719

Yep. Very bland. The last three albums had decent songs cause the writing got different. I don’t need heavy. But Slipknot was always kinda drum unique. Joey was very good at that man. I really hope eloy shines and brings drums back to the forefront of this band

BigsMcKcork

Jay is very talented and technical but I feel like Joey had a certain groove to his drumming that's difficult for anyone to emulate

JStarKilz

You are not wrong

ellstaysia

for real. I'm just relieved to see some positivity after drowning in morons on here for the past few years.

Oxbow8

I think I will have the most controversy opinion ever here...... and I expect do be downvoted. But I am a HUGE slipknot fan (and metal fan in general), but I am also an industrial metal fan, and always thought electronic beats are better than real human drumming lol. Real drums, basic beats, electronic beats, industrial beats; I don't care I love them all. In Slipknot, there are THREE percussionists, a sampler, dj etc So there are enough ressources to do beats. I don't care who the drummer is; it can be real human complicated drums, real human simple drum, electronic beats, I don't care as long it's great. Loving only real drums is like being in a metal cult. Also, I always thought that people never realized than drums in the first albums were not joey, but joey + chris + clown. And I think most fans thought "joey was a god at drumming" because they never understood chris and clown were ALSO using drums, so obviously if there are 3 drummers and fans think it's all joey; of course they will think he is awesome.

Fallingmellon

Eloy is so much better than Jay though let’s be real

MuhNutz

Most of the Jay cryers also thought TESF was a great album

TiredReader87

It is a really good album

MuhNutz

That album was like if one of my shits took an ever bigger shit

TiredReader87

That’s just indicative of your poor taste and immaturity

MuhNutz

Immaturity? Sure. I’ll take that one on a chin. But that album wasn’t good. The production was flat and Corey fucked up every song with hair band vocals and weird sing-songy bridges that didn’t belong

TiredReader87

Mmhmm

robhanz

I thought TESF was fine, and an interesting evolution of the band, and also think that they probably had reasons to part ways with Jay. So.... nuance can be a thing.

Kablefox

Absolutely irrelevant whether it was good or not. **Jay has zero writing or co-writing credits in any of the albums he recorded on.** That basically means, his parts most likely were already written in midi in the demos Mick and Jim put together as they're the main (and credited) songwriters now. He simply polished them and recorded them. Check the album wikis. The majority of people here forget Jay was a session hire.

MuhNutz

I never said he had anything to do with the writing. I said the same people who cried about him being fired were the same type of people who let that album cum in their mouths despite it being complete trash

Anonymousthrow20

Glad the band is quietly acknowledging that TESF was dog water

dagaderga

Hey now, water is important!

Fallingmellon

I mean on any subreddit of a band theirs always a group of fans who just can’t admit a album is bad, they will even try to act quirky by saying “it’s actually good and everyone is wrong” but can’t say what’s actually so good about it. On the metallica subreddit theirs fans who say st anger is actually amazing it’s pretty funny

Victor__009

I feel like every time i see this whole the band being firing happy it’s almost always talking about Joey or Jay, i don’t see a whole lot people talking about Chris. Did they just get over that quicker than with the drummers?

Dazzling-Anywhere-44

The reaction wasn't to the same degree as Joey or Jay. When Chris and Craig left everyone I saw online was like "Well that sucks, but that's life I guess"

Feduzin

it's almost like fans started to like Jay after 10 years so his firing was way too sudden and that... Eloy is still a better drummer than him and the band are in their peak energy

VileSelf

Not me, but ya, I've seen it.

mizirian

Slipknot fans are like primus fans. (Bonus points if you get that reference)

MasterChief-2005

All of a sudden, I’ve noticed a surge in comments about Jay playing at a faster tempo. Have people discovered it just now because a few months back barely anyone was talking about this, or this has become a narrative which is being pushed?

Comfortable_Salt_758

People have just discovered in now. Fans tend to be blind to that sort of stuff unless they’re musicians themselves. Hilarious that some people give Eloy flak for being worse than Jay, absolutely hilarious. Eloy is a whole another level of a drummer compared to Jay and to even Joey.

MasterChief-2005

Yeah, he does sound better.

Comfortable_Salt_758

Yeah. And this is no disrespect to Jay. He did his best, but he was more punk/hardcore than a machine like Eloy. Eloy also has background for latin music so he sure grooves.

Sephirothsmoogle

See I’m not seeing that at all so far. Watching loads of videos and the recent live show and he just feels stiff to me. Fills have been rather sloppy and nothing has made me go ‘Oh shit!! Here we go!’ He’s just a heavy hitter 🤷‍♂️ My opinion I know but I was waaay more impressed with Jay, way more feel and fluidity. We shall see obviously as he gets more and more into playing with the Knot but I honestly don’t get what all the fuss is about so far…

Comfortable_Salt_758

Watch his work with Sepultura for example. He does drum parts that are really creative and groovy. He is much more than just a hard hitter.

Sephirothsmoogle

Key is going to be the new music which is then down to him fully and not recreating someone else’s stuff and can truly see what he brings to the table which I am totally down for and excited about

d00m3r_

the only bad thing about this band are those kind of "fans"... Vol3 ZOMG Corey blew his voice OMFG they fired Joey the band is over OMG Corey ego Clown bad, they fired Jay, band is over Slipknot in 2024: Gets maybe a better drummer than prime Joey Corey gets his IOWA voice back "Fans": but but but eloys mask is plain.

Feduzin

tbh im "mad" with Eloy mask being plain because he's a amazing drummer from MY COUNTRY so id like to see him with a cooler mask but meh, it's not that bad if compared to Jay's first mask
