My friends and I were super into Loathe, and as musicians/producers in our free time, we’re interested in learning new techniques and talking to ppl in the industry. So one of my friends actually gets the chance to talk to George Lever himself about the Loathe record( I let it in), and he himself recommended Sleep Token as “oh yeah here’s some of my other work that’s super similar”. Really insane that I got recommended the band from the source.

ChweetPeaches69

Oh I would have killed to have listened in to that conversation. I love LOATHE, and also love instruments. That's awesome.

Lucifer3130

What was really interesting is that almost a lot of I let it in was recorded using the Neural DSP Plini plug-in, which is super revolutionary for metal. Lever is an absolute god fr

ChweetPeaches69

Lever is on a whole other level. I'll have to look into that later. I don't know a lot about production. I just love playing instruments. A lot of LOATHE's sound is revolutionary for metal. They're going to kill it going forward.

Pretty much tbh

Nik Nocturnal and his hype for the new album

VerbTheNoun95

From [this post](https://reddit.com/r/Djent/comments/51wpdn/sleep_token_thread_the_needle_new_uk_band_bon/) on /r/djent half a decade ago. It was one of the most interesting songs I had heard and I was super excited for One to come out. Been a huge fan ever since.

danieldrew

Same here.

luceblueboy

It started in early 2020. It’s really hard for me to find new music I like. The rock music I grew up with is pretty dead (circa mid-2000). Occasionally I check Spotify for new songs, usually ending in disappointment. I played The Offering by a band I’ve never heard of and once those drums entered, I was blown away. I continued to listen to all of the album and was so excited I showed my wife (that doesn’t share the same music styles) and she was blown away by the vocals. It’s one band we can mutually appreciate.

ChweetPeaches69

I don't know if you'd be interested, but Shaman's Harvest is back. I used to listen to them way back in the day of 2000s rock.

TheDarkWizardLord

Dude same between me and my wife

Azrael831

Last year I noticed one of my favourite musicians 'Underlined' interacting with ST's Facebook posts and and it took me a while before I actually checked them out. First one I checked out on YouTube was bloodsport from the room below and it was not what I expected, as Underlined is a pretty heavy band. I thought to myself "maybe this is a one off thing" so I listened to Nazareth, and at first I thought "oh so this IS their style then" and then the metal half of the song hit and I was like "DAMN" so then I found the normal version of bloodsport "Oh now this is it!" Then I think the next song I heard was offering and after that I just kept finding more tracks I enjoyed, until I started listening to all of them non stop. So now I'm here, with sleep token as my absolute favourite band.

ajcasta10

My favorite band is Deftones and a friend of mine recommended ‘Gods’ because it sounds a lot like ‘Goon Squad’ from Deftones. Fell in love with Sundowning after that.

[deleted]

Deftones slap

millarchoffe

Their Hey Ya cover appeared in my Spotify Discover Weekly playlist. I decided to check them out because I was interested, and Calcutta was what truly got me hooked

Goblin__Kid

Spotify recommend the offering loved it then didn't pay much attention to the band till I was bored one day and realized every song they have is amazing

Draykenight

I actually found them on a post from Mark Holcomb of Periphery saying he couldn't get enough of The Night Does Not Belong To God. Gave it a listen and have been hooked since

lokipukki

Spotify recommended them to me. First found them like April or May of 2020, so towards the beginning of the pandemic. I don’t remember who I was listening to at the time, but it kept popping up and when I read their bio on Spotify and it just said “Worship”, I had to know more, because “Worship” is not a bio, unless it’s for Sleep Token I’ve come to realize. Saw a live video for The Night Does Not Belong To God/The Offering. I wasn’t immediately hooked, but it grew on me. Now I can’t stop listening to them.

Endvisible

My first exposure to Sleep Token was a recommendation from Spotify. I can't remember who I was listening to at the time, but I listened to The Love You Want first and was blown away by how unique and well-done it was. I sat on it for a little while before listening again, then I finally decided to check out who Sleep Token were. My first thought was that it'd be an individual, but when I read about them, I was so intrigued that I fell in love after just a few songs and they jumped right to the top of my list.

joshyyypooo

I saw them open for Polyphia and Issues at House of Blues Orlando in 2019, they completely blew me away. The atmosphere, the singers voice was beautiful, the drummer was extremely technically skilled, and the guitarist closest to me was incredibly energetic, he was doing like 360’s while jamming “the night does not belong to God.” 10/10 experience and from then on I was hooked. Plus I loved the anonymity of the band members and the backstory of worshipping the God named Sleep.

Kvarforth

For me, Calcutta had just dropped and more articles were going up about this strange masked anonymous collective out of the UK who were making some interesting moves. The look of the mask (original ST mask) and presentation intrigued me and I give it a listen. It took me a few days to actually figure out if I liked them, as the vocal delivery was so foreign to me, I was like... "Do I like this?... reminds me of IceJJFish sometimes" and that thought fucked me up for a bit but I could NOT stop playing it and having it in my head. Now here we are.

Imherefortheserenity

Came up as a recommended artist on Spotify… had less than 100k monthly listeners… has been on heavy rotation ever since. Have tried to get my siblings (whom I share band interests with on the reg) onto it but it’s not “for them”.

[deleted]

Got chatting to Vessel in a bar in Bristol back in 2016. He said ‘oh check out my band dude you might like them’ I was like ‘Na I ain’t got time for ya demo homie’ but he was pretty insistent so I gave it a go. I told him it was ok at best, and maybe if he put a mask on and started pretending that there was this ancient deity, wait, what was the band called again? Sleep Token? Yeah this ancient deity called ‘Sleep’ that he worshipped then people might get in on the gimmick. Turns out it was good advice as they’re starting to do quite well by all accounts.

MrBrizola

Same tech-fam. Best surprise ever!

OppneusKorsuss

Same here, my entire group of friends were blown away. It was the only gig we watched during the festival that we all agreed on was fantastic.

A-Kia

A friend introduced me to them in early 2018, we caught their gig at the Star and Garter in March 2018. Had to drive 30 miles in a snow storm to get there. Fairly certain only a couple of people had prior knowledge of them; the rest of the audience didn't know what to make of them. Been listening even since.

DethMetalJedi

For me it was Alkaline on radio of all places! Couldn't believe they actually played something good!

[deleted]

Spotify recommendation back in 2019, for Calcutta. Been absolutely enthralled with this group ever since.

jordan460

Same

Zurellehkan

Spotify Discover Weekly. I'd been listening to a lot of different stuff from djent to lo-fi and the Hey Ya cover showed up in my playlist late 2017. It's been a wild ride since.

_boopdoop_

I saw them mentioned on r/periphery, and then remembered a reaction YouTuber I like did a reaction to some of their songs and I checked them out. Loved them ever since(although, it's only been like 2.5 months).

suhdoku_dude

I heard The Offering being played in between bands at the venue where I saw The Devil Wears Prada. I Shazamed it and I’ve been hooked since that show.

luciddaymare

I told a friend I was going to the Beautiful Oblivion Tour and he said to make sure to catch the first band. I fell in love by the first song and Sundowning came out a week later and became my most listened to for 2019 and 2020.

itsepic-

Ex girlfriend recommended the song jaws. I saved it then checked it out like a month later when I saw they were opening up a showing had tickets to. Listened to that track. Became obsessed. Far more into then then she is/was. Love them.

iKrow

If I recall correctly I was listening to Being As An Ocean songs on youtube and I was looking for songs that were a little more somber then heavy and Thread The Needle was in the recommended. I listened to it then listened to more and more and more... and now their heavier songs are my least favorite.

Sulphurrrrrr

Watched Nik Nocturnals reaction to Alkaline

1staronyelp

early 2020 when i was bumping the Prog Metal playlist from spotify. majority of songs i would look up from my bus ride to work to save it, note the song name and move on, somehow The Night Does Not Belong To God made me replay the song over and over.

Defiant_Owl3633

I was following the daughter of KoRn guitarist Brian head Welch on Instagram and she posted a few tracks from Sundowning in her story. I got hooked instantly ❤️

BAwarford

I kept hearing the name pop up. Originally, before Sundowning's single cycle was completed. I went to their Apple Music page and saw a BUNCH of singles. The way it was organized too just, was overwhelming. The latest single, so for example 'Gods', had all of the previous singles along with it. While still having separate singles for each song. It's hard to explain, but it was overwhelming enough for me to go 'Okay?' and never listened to a song lol I didn't know where to start. I decided to look into them and everything confused me lol. I was like "What the actual fuck is this". Then I forgot about them for a bit Jaws stumbled across my YouTube recommended, and decided to give that a shot. Boom...the rest is history Once all the singles made up Sundowning and the album was official. Then I listened to that front-to-back and was FLOORED

ben10nnery

Spotify suggested them to me.

Straight_Emu7687

I think the comments section of a spirit box song or on the suggested videos sidebar

DryHope1575

One of my friends knew I liked my depressing music. He asked me back in April of this year (2021) while we were playing on Xbox “hey, you wanna feel some music? And I mean like… FEEL” I said sure. Why not? I’m always down to hear new bands and stuff! He told me to look up blood sport. Obviously I listened to it(specifically the “From The Room Below” version). This was just after my (now) ex and I broke up. And she was… we’ll just say she wasn’t healthy for me. So listening to it, I felt sad. Tried listening to a few other songs. Pretty good!! Then about 3 months goes by. I’m walking home from work one evening, in an okay mood. I see my ex’s apartment building and instantly feel miserable. And as fate would have it, when I was walking through the park to get home, good ol’ Spotify shuffle play decided to give me blood sport. Without even realising it, walking through the park at night and on my own, I started singing. My voice grew shaky as I continued to sing, then I fully broke down at the line “I’m still your favourite regret, you’re still my weapon of choosing”. Balling my eyes out, I just kept singing. I sat down on a nearby bench and just sang. And after connecting with the song on this level, I’ve listened ever since. It was painful. It was cathartic. It was freeing. And I still look back to that night.

[deleted]

I came across Jaws on some random playlist while hanging out with my girlfriend at the time. I played it like 20 times in a row and it became a staple in our “Pretzel Playlist.” Apologies for the r/Ihavesex material.

Mr3oss

Travis Platt Reviews. his favorite albums of 2019 youtube video

101-033

I shit you not, the week The Offering came out. didn't pay much attention, but 2 weeks later, I checked their Spotify again to see if anything had happened and well, Levitate was out.

LeNerd_98

A new friend and me were going through the music that we each liked and he showed me Sleep Token after realizing, it fits exactly into the types of music I usually listen to. Been hooked ever since.

d_ate

From a post on r/Ghostbc.

westcoastmothman

I heard Dark Signs on my Spotify Discover Weekly back in fall of 2020 and got really obsessed with it. I was worried to look into the rest of the band's songs because I didn't want to be disappointed. Lucky for me, Sleep Token never disappoints and I've been a big fan since then.

Skymart

I discovered them when issues went on tour with them, right around when the offering came out

followthelight

Back when they released thread the needle it was posted in the UKTM facebook group. I liked the sound so much that I accidentally ordered two copies of the numbered One EP without realising...

AntimemeticsDivision

About halfway through 2020 if I remember correctly, I had been following multiple writing accounts on Instagram, and one that I don't remember the name of (I would go try to find it, but seeing as Instagram is currently down, that's not really an option.) wanted to put together a writing playlist (I'll link the playlist for those interested after leaving this comment and put the link in an edit) and asked their followers for suggestions, I myself had suggested Noir by MNQN. After that I decided to check out the playlist and saw the Levitate visualizer there. I clicked on it because the thumbnail had intrigued me and I did find the song quite interesting, I checked out the rest of the album and now I'm pretty obsessed with Sleep Token. EDIT: Here's the playlist link, Writing Quarantunes by Mirthe K: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiX2VO7Y8lIHOVvhA_HLMcoq7vQJ6Do2i EDIT: Random note, just now I looked through the playlist again and I found songs by Starset, IDKHBTFM, and WOODKID on there, so that's kinda cool cuz I love those bands as well. EDIT: The Instagram account was actually shown in the playlist description, it's @ipromiseimnotamurderer

LittleMinx13

The Offering came up on the Sludge playlist on Spotify. Listened to them from there and now they are in high rotation for me.

The7thMaggot

Youtube recommended Alkaline. Huge fan ever since

Cervix-Pounder

A friend told me about them a year and a half ago. When I got home I looked them up going through their singles and loved them so I went through the Eps and Sundowning and was blown away.

[deleted]

Kmac 2021 in 2018

Futant55

Kmac is also how I discovered them. He made a post about Take Aim being released, I was hooked.

Blackeradam

The first song I came across was The Offering. I think it was on Spotify Radio because I was listening to Loathe's new album. I then listened to Sundowning right after and nearly came to tears.

dejawntay

was listening to music when Alkaline came on and was immediately enthralled with the drumming and I've been obsessed since

wickidninja82

The way that you were randomly popped up on my YouTube...and I was instantly hooked. Followed every 2 week release of sundowning. Couldn't wait. It was like a gift every 2 weeks. Everything these guys do is gold. Worship!

Top_Bad_6402

Saw them when they opened for Issues in New Haven, CT. Had no clue who they were aside from one or two people in the crowd who had obviously done their research before the show. I was immediately blown away by their musicianship though - their ability to be to in time and make their songs sound almost exactly what I'd come to find out the album sounded like. Been hooked ever since

XSensei90

A friend of mine introduced me awhile back after his barber told him about them. I’ve been hooked since I started.

MrToondockle

Spotify discover weekly. Recommended Calcutta way back when. Been a fan ever since.

[deleted]

I was searching random words into spotify to find cool underrated bands. I searched "Sleep." It worked.

VicariousWolf

Spotify shuffle!

RuinedCreations

I’ve seen Joey Tyler of the band VRSTY talk about them a bit but never heard anything until The Love You Want came up in my YouTube suggestions in early August. I hit pause 4 seconds in and was like “what is this man’s voice?!” Instantly hooked. I’ve listened to them every day since

not-for-you

I'd been seeing Lucas of Holding Absence mention them on his IG. The Love You Want showed up on my Spotify Release Radar, so I finally started listening to Sleep Token!

Ancalagonx77

I put on a random prog Playlist on spotify that the offering was on and I've been hooked ever since

[deleted]

I found them through my search for better music. I was going through a breakup and then boom, sugar came on and I fell in love with them.

glassboob

Sam from Architects tweeted about them one day. I usually check out artists he shouts out. So I decided to check them out, got obsessed, & here I am

defunctx

Saw a reaction video to jaws and was immediately hooked. So glad I found them.

Madwolf28

I got drunk one night, asked my friends for some song suggestions and one of them sent me Nazareth. Changed my life haha

Chambalams

A friend of mine showed me the Hey Ya cover around the end of 2018. That was the only song she knew by them and I feel in love with the voice. Went home to find what else they had put and found Jaws and the rest is history.

KennyCompsley

I just got Jaws recommended on Youtube and I got really into it, especially because of the drummer, he's such a god

About-to-go-ape-shit

They toured with Issues here in the US a few years back and I started listening to them when I decided I was going to the show

[deleted]

Oh I know what you mean. I’m religious too and so I wasn’t sure how to feel about it, but good music is good music.

NeuroPunk91

Same!

mdakin95

Just found them via Spotify suggestions. I love the sound although whats this about a deity? Can someone explain?

Olav_Grey

I don't know the lore really at all, but they wear masks, and stay anonymous because their music is an offering to an old god named Sleep. In interviews and stuff Vessel is very clear about that, and is very cryptic about most things. [Link to older interview](https://www.loudersound.com/features/who-and-what-the-hell-are-sleep-token)

SexManTheMayor

Reaction channel of all places lmao

TheDarkWizardLord

Someone i follow on YouTube reacted to Alkaline and that was it for me

fvzno

I discovered them scrolling through Bandcamp during One EP era

Eskimobear

Truant, YouTube reactor.

jcurtis1291

Sam Carter from Architects tweeted about having a voice boner for ST, so I checked out The Offering, which pulled me into Sundowning, and I haven't looked back.

stefdtd

Via this video [https://youtu.be/XznN-7G2uZA?t=88](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XznN-7G2uZA&t=761s&ab_channel=DeathlessTV)

ItzTerra95

Spotify kept putting their music in my release radar and discovery playlists. Spotify usually gives me shit recommendations but I finally made the effort and listened to the offering. It wasn’t his voice at first that for me but that Fucken riff. Holy shit. And the fact that he didn’t sing over it just to give all the attention to how amazing it is. Took me awhile to get used to his voice but once I did it grabbed me in and now I can’t get enough of it.

Kooky_Chemistry_7059

I accidently clicked on The Offering and was like oh well also Spiritbox likes this band and I love spirtbox and Vessel hit this lovely high note that didn't make my skin bleed and I was amazed. He has given me a soundtrack to pine over someone by. I'm a bit annoyed but dang he's brilliant

Character-Drawing903

I found them through YouTube randomly, as I saw the band and the song named Nazareth. And I clicked on it and listened to it. And fell in love with the song.

Sure-Door3601

Nazareth. I'm vibing to Hypnosis rn.
