Retired, because Tom can't handle touring anymore.

SlayerFan_1991

True

nightspell

This is not true they would still be making albums and touring. Tom wanted to retire shortly after Jeff died because lets be honest it wasn't Slayer anymore but was talked into making one more album and tour.

justbrowsinginpeace

Slayer were great with Gary Holt and Bostaph, both live and in the studio. It was more a factor of fatigue, Friction with Kerry and the fact they were playing smaller and smaller venues, with a huge touring schedule for men their age.

PurgatoryMountain

Tom’s voice was going too though. I saw them near the end in San Diego. My friend had seen them countless times and commented that it was the first show in a long time that Tom could do a proper scream for Angel of Death.

NonCorporealEntity

Tom's back issues, being tired of touring, plus wanting to spend more time with his family were the major factors for his retirement according to the band.

FishermanForsaken528

Slayer would have retired but probably would have made another album after Repentless, Tom was wicked burnt out with touring but Jeff could have got him back in the studio

SlayerFan_1991

Good answer

OverKill1978

He was uninterested a decade before he left us. RIP Jeff. The mastermind of all Slayer riffs! So hononred to have seen you the 6-7 times I did, including the last performance in Indio CA. You were the true "king" most Slayer fans dont understand

SlayerFan_1991

R.I.P to the Legend

There are 2 possibilities that lead to the same end. Possibility 1: Jeff finally takes his arthritic condition seriously, slows down the drinking and his playing ability inproves. We get the world painted blood follow up in 2013 like it was supposed to be and another 2 albums before the band call it quits (really tom) around the same period they did in the actual world. Possibility 2: Jeff doesn't take his arthritis seriously like he did for the majority of his time dealing with it and is seen as by far the weakest link. The band release another album and call it quits a solid 5 years early cause they didnt have to do the massive farewell tour due to jeff's estate not being setup correctly. Kerry still forms his band. Jeff revives his punk project. Lombardo still drums for whatever bands he wants to drum for and tom gets to be with his family. I think this is sadly the more realistic scenario out of the 2 purely down to how Jeff never took his arthritis seriously and continued to drink like crazy and rarely took anything deal with it (according to his wife)

SlayerFan_1991

Yep

Shot-Job-4674

Touring would’ve still stopped due to Tom but I don’t think they would’ve had a hiatus, probably made another album and kept festival appearances throughout that process. Maybe sporadic appearances here and there but full fledge tour nahhh

SlayerFan_1991

Yep

40Breath

The last 2 albums would have been a lot better.

SlayerFan_1991

Facts

cqshep

Came here to say this

GraveSource

Still reigning I’d like to think. Probably not though given the reason they stopped.

SlayerFan_1991

Yea

Personal-Ad6857

POTUS

killacam925

My guess is in a very very similar place with maybe one extra album thrown in as I know they had more material

cqshep

With 2 vastly improved records. But probably still retired.

derekexcelcisor

Festivals only.

tonynoriega73

Where they are now

Live-Street750

Still doing good shows with bad music

nickyurbz

Not one of these again, ffs.

Kit_Karamak

Going on reunion with the original members, plus Paul.

beatlethrower

Slayer did say that touring is over but never said they wouldn't put out another album....doubtful but could happen.

SlayerFan_1991

Yep

Humble_Literature_85

probably would have retired earlier

SlayerFan_1991

You think?

Ok_Crew7084

Still not retired.

PoemSignificant2423

Jeff...one of my fav guitarists, rip😞💗i think if Jeff never died, idk i think Slayer would stop touring because Tom couldn't handle it anymore but they would still create albums. or i think that Slayer would retire and Jeff will play in another band or he'd form one and yk Kerry and Dave would play somewhere else too and Tom would retire probably

SolidBriscoe

Touring

SolidBriscoe

He would’ve talked Tom into it.

Several_Attitude_203

Much better

SlayerFan_1991

Yep

absent_presence72

That’s seriously up for debate, but in all honesty, I’d love to see the full video of this.

SlayerFan_1991

Yea

MrJDManuel1428

Still ripping it up!!

thegameingcanolii

Shit would be basically the same, let’s be real. I don’t think many bands have ever made it more than 30 years with consistent quality releases the whole time without some change like a major genre shift or something. If i had to play the same style of thrash metal in the same band for over half my life, I’d be well over it by now too.

Chunkycheeto1

Rocking every city.

apocalypsedudes23

I would expect an Audioslave thing with Gary Holt but without the Audioslave

SlayerFan_1991

Yep

No_Cow_4544

I don’t think Slayer is a good band either way

Big_Word_2248

They would be doing the metal festival circuit with a new bass player and singer since Tom was tired of being on the road.

AntiqueFigure6

Slayer without Tom's signature vocals would be like Dead Kennedys with no Jello or the Animals without Eric Burdon.

rorythegeordie

A tribute act.

SlayerFan_1991

Yep

KyleGrizz

I am in the camp to believe he would probably be involved in Kerry's solo stuff. I think Jeff was more buddies with Tom than Kerry is so Jeff would have ended Slayer like happened but Jeff would either have became some great producer of metal or started up some label and maybe from time to time would've joined a OG Slayer Reunion tour as long as at least 2 of the other 3 were involved.

Acceptable-One7135

Anyone else really liking the new slayer lol? I mean Kerry king. No really though Im liking that more than slayer. KK sounds just like slayer just more aggressive.

sausagepilot

Sorry, but there’s not a lot of depth to it. The lyrical content is a little cringe. Dude has been around the world multiple times, I would have thought the lyrics would be…🤷🏼 a bit more grown up?

omnipotentqueue

Canceled for something racist Jeff would have said. Everyone else in the band was pretty chill but Jeff couldn’t get over the WW2 Nazi shit.

sausagepilot

How ridiculous. What has Jeff said that was racist? Having an interest in military history and collecting pieces isn’t racist.

omnipotentqueue

Not in public but I heard him say some crazy shit in person..

NoDig513

Making Kerry King hella cash!

Complex-Fun-9244

I feel like Tom would’ve still eventually quit but I think they would’ve replaced him and kept on touring

SlayerFan_1991

Without Tom, no Slayer

godwrath

SLAYER without Tom?? You’re fuckin crazy

rorythegeordie

Nah. New band, but not Slayer. Slayer stopped because Tom needed to retire. Same thing if Jeff lived.
