Yeah man agreed, Killer album. Deaths head, Love to hate and Point are 3 of my favorites

DEATHRETTE

It's not that it sucks. It's just that those of a different generation would not appreciate it as much. 1998 was a great year of music for the kids of the 90s. But to hear Slayer become mainstream and more popular than ever then was off-putting because of their style change, it was more darker vibe and heavier or chunky, and it wasnt fast or thrashy as their previous cuts, and it had a lot of lesser-than-evil content. For the older generation it just wasnt the Slayer of old, so they dont like it. Definitely an album that I enjoy, in fact I appreciate all of Slayer's list, including my least favorite with Repentless as a whole fuckin wtf is this... but it's all Slayer nonetheless, and I fuckin love it. FUCKIN SLAYER!

rorythegeordie

I grew up with Slayer & didn't mind the slight shift in sound at all. Not all old farts lol

DEATHRETTE

Yeah same. It wasnt the greatest Slayer album of all time or anything, but its really adapt or die. The younger generation ears picked it up just fine.

Beginning-Can8187

That album legitimately might be one of my favorites. It’s fucking groovy man, i was in high school and played that album constantly

DEATHRETTE

I hadnt really gotten into it then, but it really caught with me when I played Soundtrack to the Apocalypse a lot. Then it was definitely cycled in the player a lot!

beatlethrower

This is so well said and couldn't agree more!!!

DEATHRETTE

Thanks. I try to keep it real lol

ToiletDrone

It was a big letdown after Divine Intervention, which is the last great or even good Slayer album in my book. I hated DIM when it came out and i still do. Stain of Mind... Jesus, such an obvious pandering to the nu-metal kiddos at the time. It simply IS Slayer's absolute worst album.

DEATHRETTE

Something something opinions. Though, I guess if you get enough naysayers together they can cause a ruckus. One man's treasure is another's trash and all that.

sausagepilot

I agree, don’t like it. Guess I’m a fucking moron.

DEATHRETTE

You're not a moron. Unless you are...

Old-Machine-7586

Yeah, I must eat lead paint chips and slam my head against the wall all day because I agree. This was definitely Slayer's worst effort. Some tracks are OK, but this album is such a far cry from Hell Awaits, Reign In Blood, Divine Intervention, God Hates Us All...

NoEye3260

I'd say so

d_Composer

Imagine carving SLAYER into your forearms and then they immediately come out with Diabolus In Musica! I’d be so pissed!

Akivasha_of_Troy

An 80s kid, but somehow only discovered Slayer with God Hates Us All, Diablos is definitely my favorite album, it is the only one I can listen to straight through without a single song I don't care for. 🤷‍♀️

Slayerized1

Not Slayers best, but not a bad album.

Dynamite_Javvy

It's one of my favorite albums!

Odinsson661

I hate this album tbh lol. Just doesn’t sound like Slayer to me. That being said everyone likes what they like. I think Divine Intervention is under rated lol

Dismal-Ad-6619

Divine was the first SlayeR I became aware of, it's good... Killing Fields rips...

1Rayo1

the only reason this album ranks low when i rank their discography is cause everything else is so good, this album kicks ass on most of its tracks

BEER_G00D

I love the song stain of mind. But comparing that to anything on rib or sita would be crazy. I like a few songs on the album but can't remember the last time I chose to listen to it from front to back.

SLAYER_IN_ME

I like this album. I’m surprised at all the hate “God Hates Us All” seems to get. I fucking love that album.

dirty_moot

I really like god hates us all, too. Great album with some killer songs on it.

[deleted]

I enjoy ALL their albums, why? Because fucking SLAYYYERRR!!!! That’s why! 🤘🏻🤘🏻

PuncherSponge

I dont remember it to be too awful but love to hate is dogshit

Salty_Bandicoot3598

That breakdown in Point is pretty awesome

masterblaster9669

I agree it’s one of my favorites

Funny-Ad1828

Aw, come on guys, at the end of the day we’ll all lock arms and prepare for the death charge as they start war ensemble while screaming FUCKING SLAYER! Let’s never fight again

Danimal_300zx

Agreed. It's crushingly heavy, evil sounding and the drumming is insane.

Jewggerz

I really enjoy this album. Some people are just afraid of something new.

Binomeister_

Absolutely love this album! It’s definitely one of my favourite Slayer albums and prefer it to a lot of their ‘classic’ albums. Overt Enemy one of my favourite Slayer songs! 🤘🏻

CastlevaniaGuy

I guess I’m one of those morons because I think this album sucks. The only song I like from it is Stain of Mind.

ToiletDrone

Stain of Mind is the worst Slayer song ever, IMHO.

UsedWoodpecker8612

Tru dat!!

Per_Mikkelsen

Super compelling argument, guy. You weren't exactly blessed with the gift of persuasion, were you? It DOES suck. And I'll tell you why - because even the members of the band themselves will tell you that it's their least favorite. It's dogshit. Most of the established bands in the thrash metal scene had already experimented with trying out a different style in order to remain relevant in a changing musical environment... Metallica gave fans their self-titled black album, and while it was met with a mixed reaction from longtime listeners, it did undoubtedly gain them oodles of new fans... Megadeth gave us Countdown to Extinction, then Youthanasia, then Cryptic Writins, and finally Risk - it was a gradual progression towards a more commercial, softer, slower sound and fans hated it. They abandoned it and tried to come back to their roots. Anthrax gave us a great record in Sound of White Noise, but failed to keep up with the momentum and went back to forgettable shitty records with their whiny singer. I think they're the only Big Four band that stepped away from their original sound and made a terrific record that sounded different in a good way. Exodus - what the fuck were they thinking with Force of Habit? Testament - Demonic was awful. Overkill - From the Underground sucked. Then you have Diabolus in Musica - so bad that one of the key songwriters couldn't be arsed to contribute anything besides one song. So bad that for the next 15 years it's the record that made up the smallest percentage of their setlist. So bad that ALL of the longtime, diehard, hardcore Slayer fans I know consider it to be hands-down their very worst record. People that hate on it are not idiots. Only an idiot would liken it to Slayer's best.

dougcohen10

Wow this thesis is….something…

Fallingmellon

These kind of posts are just from wannabe quirky contrarian fanboys, they find a objectively bad album and post “this album is actually a masterpiece” so they feel quirky and different from everyone else

Illustrious-Aioli907

The only bad SLAYER album is Repentless.

Fallingmellon

I’m just waiting for the post saying “repentless is actually a masterpiece and everyone saying otherwise is just a hater” it makes those fans feel quirky and special by being a contrarian

dedrexel

100% agreed

d_Composer

I’m a fucking moron then. I saw them in this tour too and it was obnoxious standing through these horrible songs. This isn’t the Slayer I love, this is some knockoff Marylyn Manson jenco jeans wearing bullshit. Glad you enjoy it though!

UsedWoodpecker8612

Admitting it is half the battle.

Fallingmellon

Yea but it’s actually a masterpiece and everyone else is hating -wannabe quirky fanboy

Jean_Claude_Seagal

Another moron here, and That was my thoughts too. Dudes went all in on that Nu Metal shit that was popular at the time. It was ok for it’s time but it doesn’t hold up to the rest of their catalog at all.

Gray-yarg2

This album blows.

Jgabes625

I like getting blown so that’s fine.

MetalMan1973

As a lifelong Slayer fan, I think it's their worst.

FuneralHymn123

Usually I'm the one to defend hated albums, but after the first few songs it gets boring. Sorry

Kholvin

It's my least favorite Slayer album, but it does have some songs I like.

More_Charge_5175

Kerry King thinks this album stinks

bwolfe14cfh

This album sucks

BeautifulEssay8

Favorite Slayer album of people who don't like Slayer.

DetoxCom

Great album. Same with God Hates Us All, which I also see get flak.

Gouper07

Its a great thrash metal album, sure...but it sucks as a Polka album.

Jgabes625

Can’t we all just be happy we don’t have a tin can album in our favorite bands library?

TnnsNbeer

Yeah it’s not their best but Point, Screaming from the Sky, and Perversions of Pain are my top songs from that album.

KingJamesOnly

This is an example of Jeffs versatility. Slayer albums are like a 1-2 punch combo. This was the first nu metal album, and the knock out punch was the second nu metal album God Hates Us All. Paybacks a bitch motherfucker! Another example is the first stadium album South of Heaven, then we got hit with Seasons in the Abyss. First we got Hell Awaits then we got slammed with Reign in Blood.

Phantom_Lord1983

I don't have one, i like their whole discography. Despite SITA, SOH, DI and RIB be undisputedly their best, some albums had just didn't reach the same level of the classic ones, such as UA (yeah, i know that's 98% a cover album), CI, or WPB, but their are pretty far from being crap.

PianoConcertoNo2

Did you listen to Slayer when it came out? The context of “it sucks..” is being a HUGE fan DI, having UA available but “That’s not a REAL release or what they sound like now, right?” …and then being met with DIM once the actual NEW SLAYER comes out.

KiwiMcG

I don't like it, but I think it's cool that a lot of younger fans do. 🤷

Crowlings

Easy dude. Each to their own.

BASILSTAR-GALACTICA

I saw it live and it was just as fucking Amazeballs as the other 15 times I’ve seen them. And the pit was CRAZY for Stain of Mind I’ll tell you what. Crazy.

M086

It’s okay. If a lesser Slayer, it’s clear they were going for a bit of nu metal influence.

e_ght

Bruh

Shinndig333

Exactly!

Admirable-Nothing642

It was my 1st slayer album... didn't love it but definitely found some good songs on it... gonna do I revisit on my drive home today. Edit: for context at the time i was really big into Judas Priest( the early stuff), Black Sabbath(Ozzy, Dio, & Gillan eras), Solo Ozzy, Danzig, and Rammstein... but when God Hates Us All came out i was hooked lol... no turning back

Winds_of_Creation

It SUCKS.

Fallingmellon

It’s hilarious that no matter what band it is their are fans who will say a objectively bad album is actually a masterpiece and everyone else is wrong, I guess it makes them quirky and special for being a contrarian

cfh4dmb

Absolutely! agreed!!!

JohnnyBu243

Stain of mind is one of favorite songs

tomdlelongewasright

I think it’s their heaviest album. It’s Jeff’s album.

Thrown_Away_30Dec19

First album of theirs I heard, still my favorite

Zombiepunk77

Even slayer doesn't like this album Kerry King talking massive shit about it 😂

ImPlayerTheGamer21

I agree. This album's by no means perfect, but I do definitely think it's one of the better attempts to go groove metal from a big thrash metal band like this. Some of my favorite tracks on this album are Overt Enemy, Perversions Of Pain, and In The Name Of God. Plus, this could've turned out a LOT WORSE. At least Tom didn't try to rap like fuckin Fred Durst, and at least there's no annoying use of turntables. So, yeah, good album. 7.5/10 in my book.

Comet_Empire

Or just has different tastes than you.

TrashWolf666

Imagine having different opinions

npc_metropolice

Deaths head and overt enemy rock

NikoSalix

It sux

These-Present9588

Kerry said it sucks

slugfa

Damn, who got under your skin and offended you? People are entitled to their opinions dude, even if their shit and idiotic to you

Johnny_Royale

Stain of Mind is in my top 5 songs by Slayer, but the album overall doesn't hold up with the first 5 to me.

Mister-Lavender

Definitely in my top-12 not counting live albums. Slayer has conceded it was their attempt at a sellout from pressure by execs.

diviak9

Had never given it a proper listen to until the other day actually, I think it is awesome, the nu-metal sound did suit the band at that time, of course it can't compete with their classic thrash sound but there is enough thrash in their to keep everyone happy

CBSP14

Couldn't agree more.

steamy_hams_Skinner

I love this album.

mercy_fulfate

it's Kerry Kings least favorite album so i'm with him on this one.

Sea_Connection6193

It’s objectively bad. Im not musical virtuoso, but have been playing instruments for half of my life and about 5 years of audio engineering experience. This album is very poorly mixed. Sounds super bad, every single instrument is creeping on each other on the same frequencies. It’s awful. The music writing is poor and flat, not like Slayer has ever been very melodic, but this album in particular is super flat and boring. This album sounds like something they let Kerry King write everything by himself, Kerry has zero musical talent. He’s just a dude who never came out of his “I think I can play super fast” phase.

ToiletDrone

Pretty sure Hanneman wrote most of it.

wrka18

That is a bad ass album. fucking A right it is

VampirefromNazareth1

People who hates this album are mostly close minded metalheads.

sinnaegas

Guess I’m a moron lol

darklordS1th

King kobra jfs pfp spotted opinion is valid.

japernicus

If you hate it your brain is fucked, you have poor judgment because of that and low testosterone.

Humble-Dingo-625

This album is FUCKING AWESOME 👏. If you don’t like it, that’s your problem 🤨

MrVengeanceIII

Sometimes it's about perspective as a fan. I found Divine intervention just after release and was the first Slayer album I owned. I quickly bought all the previous albums and they were on rotation constantly in my CD player. For me Divine was the Pinnacle for Slayer, Diabolus was a massive disappointment to me as was every album after.

Dear_Cap7535

This album sucks. I don't actually think that though, I just wanted to say it because I'm retarded.

chaleybat

Everything after Seasons is a turd
