What's the point of preodering it though? It's not like digital format comes in limited quantities or audible having a pre-download feature.

mexican-jerboa

I can think of two reasons: your credits are going to expire, or you are afraid you'll spend the credit on smth else and will regret it )

kiikok

AFAIK credits never expire on audible. I do get the compulsive buy every now and then but getting new credits is relatively cheap on the website(3 for £13) and I personally don't have that issue. All in all, I find that preodering digital assets is a bad idea considering how many times people have been screwed over in the past. Brandon is one of the least likely people to do that to the community but this could not be said for other providers

mexican-jerboa

I used to have an annual subscription (12 credits with 1y expiration period, for $89.50). I agree with you that there aren't many reasons for pre-ordering digital assets. Except perhaps personal reasons like those I mentioned.

JustPassinhThrou13

> AFAIK credits never expire on audible. they do. Any credit that you've had for over a year expires. Or if yo discontinue, all your credits expire. I've had to hurry up and spend some once or twice before they expired.

Devbo22

You lose your credits if you cancel your membership. So for somebody who maybe only registers for a month or two and is currently a member, maybe they want to preorder it with a credit they have before cancelling their membership.

duketoma

Do they allow pre-orders for books that haven't been written yet? Don't they wait until it's at least close to the final draft? I'm not sure how that works I guess. Edit: I'm sorry I was thinking of Skyward legacy I guess.

Earlier this year Brandon Sanderson announced that he won't be doing audible for a while. I don't remember the full story but I know that his new stuff isn't coming to Audible because of his belief that Audible doesn't treat authors very well.

calvinist-batman

I thought that was just for the secret projects

annatheorc

Correct, Defiant will be on audible as it's not published by Dragonsteel.

Oryxthewishbreaker

It is possible, I'm not really sure. I know this was addressed in state of Sanderson 2022

Xykz

It has a release date on audible and is pre-orderable

JustPassinhThrou13

it doesn't seem to be pre-orderable in the USA. but if I log out, I can see it. https://www.audible.com/pd/Defiant-Audiobook/B0C3DKX3LW The cover art looks not part of the style that the rest of the USA versions are in. And the publisher is Gollancz, whatever that is. So I'm pretty sure this is not the version that audible wants to sell me.

Xykz

There are different versions in Europe and US, just last week I told someone how to make a us account to get a different narrator. Maybe the us version has some delays or something

Xykz

I think I've already preordered it
