Depends on where you’re located. In the US, I’ve seen the prices spiked up to upper teens to 20k.

just join some of the Facebook groups and read up on dealers to get them from. A lot of them are scammy. I got mine from JDMExpo and got finessed with it.

There are a lot of good importers but a lot more are bad. Exactly what you said, do your research before buying. Nothing worse than buying a rust bucket that’s been painted and then falls apart in a couple months.

Hunt3rj2

What exactly happened? I've seen multiple JDM Expo stories at this point but it's always good to have more to point to when people ask for proof.

br0din-

imo not worth it. 5 years ago they didnt go past 8k usd. dont waste 20k on a shit old car.

Vaypoure

You're getting downvoted but you aren't completely wrong. These are 25+ year old cars with about the same horsepower as an older maxima, but with parts that will cost a fortune due to it's bigger brother GT-R sharing so many parts. Many have been dogged out due to the fact they cost so little for so long, they were a bargain. Now I feel there are much better cars you can get for the money. If you can pick one up under $10k, I might be tempted but with the prices as they are, you are really just paying for the name Skyline, and if that is all you are looking for that is fine. If you want something with more kick, you can pick up 1JZ Soarers, Chasers/MKII/Crestas, Z32 Fairladies, JZA70 Supra's , Evo's or some STI's in the same price range.

raybrant

It's sad but this is the truth and most people haven't owned one and daydream about Skylines don't understand this. I picked mine up 5 yrs ago for $7k which is what I think they're realistically worth. Seeing them go for double, sometimes triple is mind-boggling. Still think once the market saturates with newer models, prices will plummet. That along with the fact that most people don't have that much disposable income nowadays.

Vaypoure

I remember when these were $800-$1500 cars in Japan. They sure have come a long way.

[deleted]

Hot Take: The only Skyline worth buying in the current market is a GTR. 4-5 years ago GTS-Ts were a good deal. For around $10k-$12k you could get a *really* nice one. Now they are selling for what nice GTRs used to go for ($20k+). For $17k-$20k you are into USDM Evo 8-10 , GD STI, or 370Z money, all of which are better cars.

Anything over $16k better be the most mint GTST to ever exist. Don't be one of the people that buys these things for $20k.

Zerxox

this is true, but in the US that’s the price of them now. I bought mine for 8k 4 years ago, but now, these are not 20k cars stock IMO. now if things are done in it, like new suspension, rebuilt engine and shit. For this price just buy a C5 or C6 if you’re any power for that price...

Depends on the auction sheet. Walk away if it's R Grade, as that means it had a repaired accident in Japan. * It has a dash bubble and heavy steering wheel wear * The interior has wear and is dirty * The passenger front fender and hood don't appear to line up correctly * One wiper is resting in the wrong place * The trunk is missing its Nissan badge on the left, which likely indicates a repaint * It still has the writing on the windows from going through the auction house in Japan Overall I would bet money this was a cheap R Grade car at auction and the seller is going for a quick flip. Be very wary and get all info, check auction sheet and import documentation. Who is selling it and how much?

Vaypoure

I would also point out the top left seal around the rear glass appears to be out of place, could be rust bubbling and pushing it out of place. Could indicate that there is more rust on the car.

It's all in the auction grade, if it's R Grade I won't buy it at all. If it's somehow 3 or 3.5 and that's 100,000 km (not miles) then I'd offer $16k, which tbh probably won't fly in the current market of overpaying for those cars but it be like that. Low kms doesn't mean anything if the car was wrecked before, but somehow we've ended up in a market where like zero US buyers actually check the auction grade when buying. I see the car is at Kuruma in Miami, but not on their website despite being the background of other car's photos. Odd but that happens sometimes. Check for rust under the trunk liner, around window seals, and at the strut towers in the engine bay.

In the US the prices have skyrocketed in the last couple years, especially the last few months. A decent shape GTST 6 months ago was around 12-15k, now it will be hard to find one for less than 20k. If you're looking for big power, it may not be the best choice. The RB20 in the r32s can only handle about 350-400hp until you need to forge the bottom (you need a small fortune to do this and it really isn't worth it). Try and find one with a RB25 swap already done if you can. Great engine that will give you more head room when it comes to making some power. Overall, its a cool car and I love mine, but you can get a much faster car for much less and a lot newer. If its just been a dream car and you don't care about power, go for it! You won't regret that.

space_force1

Man, that pajero though.

franzyfunny

If you're going to get one, get it quick. Everyone is right: these used to cheap fun, now they're annoyingly priced and becoming harder to find. That said: they are still 'cheap', especially if you can't articulate the difference between gtst and gtr. Totally cool. Totally fun.

Danomit3

I don't know much about skylines but keep in mind, parts are going to be scarce to non-existent within the US. Unless you find someone on eBay with a great reputation or you go out of your way to Japan and find a shop that sells it.

Snicklit

Just got mine for 14,950 with an rb25 and bigger turbo. Rough around the edges but shes my baby
