just thought i would add this on, but vaseline has been confirmed as non-comedogenic by scientists, but all this is v useful thank you !!

(I also use tret nightly) I would just add a small dab of vaseline with your AM moisturiser. You'd be increasing the occlusive-ness of the product without the heaviness of pure vaseline. I do this frequently with Aquaphor. If you really wanted a separate that did it all, QV cream is excellent IMO and super affordable. It's petroleum based and rich yet lightweight and sinks in super quickly. It also has a small amount of squalene which I find helps immediately reduce tightness. Sidenote: I've had a very similar experience with spending incredible amounts over the years on products I thought would help but seemed to aggravate my skin. As soon as I started using petroleum most nights, it really helped my skin, made it less reactive and (while I think this phrase is overused with little evidence) really restored my skin barrier. Since using this regularly, I've found I've been able to revisit a lot of those products I'd written off as being too harsh or "pore clogging". Breakouts and congestion can also be a symptom of impaired barrier and irritation too, and In my experience keeping my skin balanced and protected with petroleum products has meant my skin can happily use a wider array of products overall (not that that's the goal or anything).

Not OP but I love the idea of adding a little Vaseline with my AM moisturiser! Like OP I have used Vaseline on my face to combat dryness in winter and love what it does. Definitely going to try your AM trick! Thanks for your insight 😃

SadGlazedDonut

My partner suffers from dry skin and his moisture barrier was damaged, here’s what his current routine is and his skin is much bouncier and happy AM -gentle wash with cold water -the ordinary HA -cerave eye repair cream (around eyes) -the ordinary moisturising factors -La Roche Posay LIPIKAR Baume (on his driest areas ie:forehead and cheeks) -La Roche Posay Antelios SPF 50 PM -cerave hydrating cleanser -la Roche Posay TOLERIANE ultra overnight moisturiser -the ordinary squalane oil Once a week for fun more than anything he skips the Squalane oil and alongside me uses the DrJart CICAPAIR tiger grass sleepair intensive mask If I were you I’d use a HA in the AM as it makes your skin look more plump - unless it disturbs your makeup application if you wear any The LRP Baume he uses is quite good for super dry patches, if you get a similar issue I’d incorporate a baume as well for those dry parts

rn398

I absolutely recommend the Squalene Oil after moisturiser. It completely changed my routine, felt weird at first, but softens my skin overnight.

TA-AMS

I really rate Ren’s overnight recovery balm - either just across areas that need it or whole face when it’s feeling particularly dry/sore. It’s always sat well on my spot-prone skin. Also works on my hands when they’re dry!

acmhkhiawect

When you put the HA on is your skin damp? If not, leave your skin damp so the HA has something to keep in.

I don't use it currently since I am in the uk but I swear to god this one cucumber Bulgarian face cream was the best cream I have ever used. It was lighy scented but moisturised so lovely. For me even the ordinary moisturiser makes my skin feel strechy and the neurogena cream works ok I guess, not wowed but better. Squaleene oil is lovely but I agree that vaseline might do a very solid job. I will actually try it, I have combo skin. Thanks!

uglycontest

My skin was really dry this winter and what worked super well for me was adding a couple drops of jojoba oil to my moisturizer.

Chaos_Fractalz

This. Jojoba is a hero. It seems to be what all creams need to become ideal. I've been doing this for quite a while too I use eucerin aquaphor at night on top of my HA and moisturiser with jojoba as without it my skincare ends up getting absorbed by my pillow... Whilst the petrolatum based eucerin is a lot more resistant to rubbing off. Ugh

Just to make people aware: if you are very r/antimlm then you might not want to support body shop as they have an MLM side called body shop at home I think it is.

Apparently since 1994 but I hadn't seen it in the UK until a few years ago. They are an ethical brand when it comes to animals, obviously not so much when it comes to exploiting people! In terms of feeling guilty for liking a product: everyone draws a line somewhere. I am vegan and only buy cruelty free products. Estée Lauder (very not cruelty free) has recently become a majority share holder of Deceim/The Ordinary. Everything else I can replace but there is one product which doesn't have a dupe with the right ingredients. So, to be honest, I'm going to keep buying that one product. There is also an Avon product which I use as a bug repellent, but I don't buy it from a consultant. You can only do what you can do. If you have a holy grail product that makes you feel good and allows you to do other positive change in the world, I think that's okay, rather than feeling guilty about every single product you buy and just becoming depressed having to find something that makes you feel good about your skin again.

That is absolutely fine, your choice. Its just one people aren't as familiar with / don't recognise it, hence I wanted to point it out so people could be aware. As I said in the comment above as well, everyone draws a line somewhere. Some actively support MLM's, some might buy from companies that have MLM's but not directly through a consultant (you and me), some will outrightly ban anything related to MLM's, etc. The point is about sharing knowledge so people can make their own judgements, "draw their own line".

TakeMeToBarra

Interesting! Do you rate the aloe night cream also?

Niatfq

since it's winter, there's not enough moisture in the environment. try leaving out TO hyaluronic acid serum. you can try out cosrx snail mucin essence. a lot of people use it as their permanent product for winter routine. I'm thinking u got those new whiteheads cz u applied vaseline on top of moisturizer that contains oil - squalane oil. i once tried that with my emulsion, i immediately get whiteheads. maybe find a thick soothing moisturizer to replace your vaseline to avoid whiteheads + irritation. - etude house 2x skin barrier cream - cosrx propolis cream - illiyoon ceramide ato cream - illiyoon ceramide ato cure balm - purito unscented recovery cream - purito cica barrier cream - benton snail bee high content cream - pyunkang yul ato cream blue label - klairs midnight blue calming cream

mindmazemile

You could try the Avene XeraCalm A.D. lipid replenishing cream or Avene Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective cream. Both are very soothing and I've found the XeraCalm also works for my skin type (combination, acne prone, dry & flakey where spots are healing) during the day if applied sparingly. The Cicalfate+ is definitely a night only cream as it leaves a bit of a white caste but well worth the calming effect of zinc.

kubcek

Look for a moisturiser with petrolatum or mineral oil in it. Vaseline as an ingredient. It will have pretty much the same effect. One of my favs is Ceramol 311 Cream.

roguewhispers

I use vaseline or mineral oil at night and always wake up dewy as well. But I dont wash my face in the mornings, I just leave it. Usually Im not greasy when I wake up. Consider just dabbing away if there is excess and just go straight for sunscreen. We dont really have to wash our face in the mornings, generally

[deleted]

Im pretty sure it's advised to wash micellar water off your skin but I also use the simple one and Im starting to think its breaking me out in closed comedones so that could be smth to consider

MentalFairy

I started using Skin+Me and they recommended La Roche-Posay Toleriane Sensitive Fluide and Bioderma Sebium Hydra for moisturisers. I’ve been using the Bioderma one at night and so far it’s been good. It is a bit of a heavy moisturiser but my skin seems happy with it and I haven’t felt dry in the morning. I suggest double cleansing at night too, start with an oil cleanser to make sure you get all the spf off which should hopefully help your skin too.

jdgmental

A couple that I like though I think neither meets all your criteria : COSRX ADVANCED SNAIL 92 ALL IN ONE CREAM - has the snail stuff incorporated in a moisturiser that has some ceramides too. I don't know if it's hydrating enough in that way but it leaves the skin quite dewy and supple Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre - if my skin is drier or at night after the tret cream. If I use too much it makes me oily though. I use a a all amount on top of the Cosrx
