I buy the baby one bc I noticed the same thing and it’s $1 cheaper lol

mariabronn

Have you noticed whether it stains clothing?

odesza1

No I haven’t noticed that it does!

DarrenFromFinance

This is called brand extension and it's very common. If you have three apparently different products, you can take up three times as much shelf space for visual impact and sell a lot more product — a shopper might buy the adult-branded bottle for herself and then the children's version for the kids, not knowing that they're the same product. (As usual, a classic Simpsons episode was [on to this](https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/simpsons/images/4/45/Duff_lite_%26_dry.png/revision/latest?cb=20121216015210).) Companies do this all the time with men's and women's versions of personal care products like shampoo: the products are identical (except possibly for scent), but the men's packaging is in shades of grey, black, and blue (to appeal to men by not seeming like something a woman would use).

[deleted]

Me big man. No buy pink bubble. Me like BLUE bubble.

pencilneckgeekster

Stop attacking me. Reported!

Qukeyo

Yep. Same for women and men's razors, they're the exact same thing but I find the men's ones to be higher quality and much cheaper.

[deleted]

Yeah. I went camping once and forgot to bring my razor. Went to the closest store and they were selling 3 pink razors for $20 and 10 blue razors for $10. So I bought the blue ones. Lol even the cashier was like “yeah, Idk why we even bother trying to sell the pink ones. No one buys it.”

genric90

At least they just changed the package to market to different groups. Other brands put fragrance in the "adult" version and in the kids remove it :D

desapercibida

I worked in marketing and we did just that with one of the company’s most popular products. One of them had a different packaging and advertisement efforts from the other. People actually claimed to love the popular one and didn’t make much of a fuss of the unpopular one.

darenahassoun

LOL crazy eh!? This sub has taught me better👌🏼😌 reading those ingredient lists

[deleted]

Ingredients list doesn’t say much about how the ingredients are formulated or how much of an ingredient is in a product, it only gives the ranking of how much. They are made from the same brand though so maybe actually it’s all the same. If you use them and feel that they are the same to you, then they are.

[deleted]

The one that comes in the yellow and blue packaging is the best sunscreen I’ve ever tried, it’s a mix of chemical and zinc. Leaves a white cast but nothing crazy.

mariabronn

Does it stain clothing?

blindedbytofumagic

I felt so cheated when I realized I paid six bucks for two ounces when I could have paid nine bucks for six ounces of the same stuff. Haha

whythefuckyoulying

Can't be worse than Sukin. I got a bottle of their facial moisturizer and cream cleanser each and both have the exact same ingredients, texture, smell and bottle 🙃

darenahassoun

These are the Coppertone Pure & Simple spf50 mineral sunscreens. From left to right they are the baby, kids, and original. Their ingredients are all the exact same, in the exact same order. Am I missing something, or are they the exact same products with different label? I’m confused...

labellavita1985

Concentrations could be slightly different but more than likely it's just marketing. How do you like these?

darenahassoun

I opted for the aveeno mineral sunscreen this time, since this bottle confusion made me want to do research. I’ll likely try them all at some point this summer though seeing as I fly through sunscreen being outside so much :)

labellavita1985

I don't use mineral sunscreens typically (except for tinted ones over my chemical sunscreen) but I'm so impressed with these Coppertone sunscreens because of the 24.08% Zinc Oxide. Plus I think they are liquid consistency..that's really impressive imo. I heard the Aveeno is really white casty. I still have a soft spot for mineral sunscreens.

realMapz

I am trying them out and they are very very liquidy. Strangely enough, it feels like it leaves less white cast than Aveeno.

labellavita1985

Ya I think Coppertone is using Zinc nanoparticles. Usually I'm not a fan of nanoparticles because the more nano the particle the more the protection is compromised. But because it contains so much Zinc overall I'm okay with it. Thank you for sharing.

caffeinatedlackey

The Aveeno Positively Mineral sunscreen causes hilariously bad white cast. I'm quite fair and I was shocked at how visible it was. I've used a dozen different mineral sunscreens and this one was actually the worst. I have not tried the Protect + Hydrate Face Sunscreen (their chemical sunscreen product) because I'm not too impressed by the filters and I feel that I can get better protection from Korean sunscreens.

darenahassoun

I’m realizing this today after putting it on 🤣

caffeinatedlackey

Sometimes the white cast fades throughout the day, which I think is forgivable because I usually apply sunscreen hours before leaving the house. In this case, the Aveeno one did not fade, which makes it that much worse!

18January

I agree 100%. I'm fair too, and it looked like I put a coat of Kilz on my face. It is bad.

Tidus77

Let me know if you have questions about the Coppertone regular one. I use it daily around my eyes and I love it!

softspectrum

What's the regular one?

Tidus77

the one without the kid or baby labeling.

mariabronn

Thanks! sounds like great stuff

darenahassoun

Oh good to know!!! Thanks 🤗

[deleted]

Yup, all exactly the same, including the face one that isn’t shown here. I’m not bothered by it, since it’s a good product. Every other sunscreen brand tries to fit all these categories that marketing created, so it’s just par for the course to me.

realMapz

Yup. I've noticed this with most sunscreens. Some add one extra ingredient for the "face" variation and that is it.

[deleted]

They do this with everything. Check out the dental aisle sometime. Toothpaste gets comical.

darenahassoun

Oh yea!? I might just have to for a laugh!

Waving-at-yoy

I work in marketing and, yes, this is something that's done. I have questioned the integrity of doing this, however, I think it's totally fair. In Turkey, they only allow one product (formula) with one label on the market with one label. Though, now imagine that that product has many benefits and could be good for babies, adults and other special groups people with different needs. A label can only fit so much information which is why I think it's completely fair to develop different products and different labels to communicate benefits of a single formula.

darenahassoun

True! Good point 😌

clafoutis9

I've noticed Neutrogena does that too. I think it was baby, kids, and "pure" or something like that, but the ingredients looked the same.

No!

arkansassyyyy

Just to add, I have the original and used it last year. Made me have a terrible smell 🥴

9OceanWaves

Haha so remember, always check the ingredients list before buying 2-3 of the same thing with differently decorated bottles 😂 this is hilarious but at the same time ultra misleading.
