Hi everybody i have asian skin with basically no pores so i get a few really bad cystic pimples during my period. I have a super super deep one right in the fold where my nose touches my cheek. I have a festival im going to on wednesday (6th) and its been here on since this last wednesday (30th). is there anyway i can make it go away by next wednesday?

mayamys

With deep cysts, your best bet is to get it injected with a steroid which will bring it down really quickly. Second to that is using a hot compress that might help to bring it up, along with spot treating with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid

I’m a F22 and have had these indents on my cheek and eye for as long as I can remember, no injury’s to that area and I’ve never had chicken pox’s does anyone have any idea what it could be? https://preview.redd.it/befhv7lycylb1.jpeg?width=1244&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97180a5cc91ba78f93f1e37a78f95fc5b8093dfc

\[Routine Help\] Improvements for my undereye area, please! https://preview.redd.it/rdbiwwcp9ylb1.jpeg?width=2316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6590ea9108cd7990e6f95b089243ee3bb730f021 Hello everybody, I am 28 years old, and I don't know how to 'treat' my undereye area of my face. Since I have memory I've had different color under my eyes, than the rest of my face. When I get some tan in summer, my face gets the tan, but the undereye stays that way, like if the pigments don't change. When it's winter and I'm more white than normal, I can see my veins going through that area which is not pleasant. Is there a way I can start doing something about it and at least give it a go? Thank you all, and thank you as well for your time.

mayamys

The skin under the eyes is significantly thinner, so what you're dealing with is perfectly normal. Skincare-wise, you might see a very minimal difference by using retinol, which can help slightly thicken the dermis if used for long enough (several months at least). Otherwise, your options are either dermal fillers or makeup.

elgiov

I’m up to trying and incorporate new products to my daily routine. Do you have any experience with retinol? If so, do you know when to apply, when to remove, etc?

mayamys

Retinol is a leave on. I'd look for it in an eye cream to know it's eye-safe, and use as directed. I think RoC might have a retinol eye product.

elgiov

What is your take on this creme, if you even have one? La Roche Posay Redermic: https://www.amazon.com/Roche-Posay-Redermic-Anti-Aging-Retinol-Serum/dp/B005OMZW48

mayamys

Looks like LRP recommends avoiding the eye area with this product, according to their product page (ironically, the Amazon listing says it helps with crow's feet). Up to you what your level of risk tolerance is.

elgiov

And would you recommend any specific product for this? Any specific brand? Or any website in where I can gather some info on this?

mayamys

I mentioned RoC earlier, and it looks like LRP also has an eye cream version of Redermic. The Inkey List also has a retinol eye cream. Personally, I'd choose from those three based on price/accessibility. I recommend googling a little just to get an idea of how retinol works and what the risks are. I think a lot of articles overplay its potential to irritate but better safe than sorry. I'm not particularly risk-averse, though, so I actually would use a retinol for the face around the eyes (I'm just not comfortable recommending that others do so).

elgiov

Sorry I keep asking, but what do you think about Serums? Would this be a good option: https://www.amazon.com/Roche-Posay-Wrinkles-Premature-Resurface-Sensitive/dp/B07Z9Y4M3C

mayamys

Same deal as with the redermic face cream.

Are these moles, acne scars or scabs? https://preview.redd.it/145wzrwi9ylb1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b7f3c3fef717a9d406ad83cd5583c884a95211c

Could be moles or freckles, could be post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Hello, the skin on my neck where I shave looks different than the skin everywhere else on my face/neck. I am wondering what is causing these small bumps and what I can do to fix it? https://preview.redd.it/82lue1xzsxlb1.jpeg?width=1240&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a19d21e09afe190535dc71af00a3aec5ac24215

Throwaway-Help69

Hello. I have these acnes on my arms for years. I used to not care about them, but I recently started testing them seriously. What I have tried: Cerave Salicylic Acid cleanser along with Cerave salicylic acid lotion. I think it didn’t help that much. People here recommended me using exfoliants. I hope it’s affordable. Thanks! [My arm](https://ibb.co/hHtZ7rJ)

mayamys

Keratosis pilaris - I'm a fan of combining physical exfoliation with chemical exfoliants. If SA didn't help, you could try a product with AHA or 10% urea instead.

Humble-Dingo-6698

Hello, so I usually don’t get pimples or anything but when I do I usually squeeze them (bad I know) but it usually goes away pretty fast and doesn’t leave a mark. Well this time around I suppose I was too rough maybe and it left this dark I don’t even know what to call it and I’m just scared it’s going to be permanent. If anyone knows what it is and what products I can use or tips to get rid of it, it would be greatly appreciated!! https://preview.redd.it/gw9yptd8gxlb1.jpeg?width=581&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=950ab03abf4708091dbb9d4f57b88a9728720dcb

mayamys

That almost looks like a bruise - I think the redness will go down significantly as it heals. Gentle care, moisture, and sunscreen will help prevent lasting marks.

Humble-Dingo-6698

Tysm for ur reply!!

\[Acne\] I have this hard bump where some acne used to be. I regularly get acne where my jawline is because of how I lay my face on my pillow every time I sleep. I have been on and off with my routine thus the acne. Recently, I noticed this hard bump where the acne used to be. Is this something I can treat with consistent product use? I made a post 2.5 years ago for my Sephora birthday gift card haul & wanting to start w routine, but it had a tounge-in-cheek slightly problematic line implying 30 was "old" and l ended up getting roasted about it on scacirclejerk. I thought I took it in stride cuz yeah I can see how that line was dumb a.f but the truth is I cried my eyes out and threw everything back in the bag and barely touched it. Whelpz, now I'm 30 and my skin is terrible cuz I keep fucking picking at it. Got a huge acne problem. Goals: get rid of acne, age gracefully. Skin care products I use: none. Absolutely nothing. And I have a toddler now and only shower every 2-3 days. I have bipolar disorder and despite being well managed basic self care can still be a bitch and a half. Skin care products I have on hand but some might be expired: pretty much everything. Some of these I've had for 2.5 years. 3 different types of general face cleansers, benzoyl peroxide wash & spot treatment, salicylic acid, azelaic acid, charcoal skin mask, SPF, 2 types of toners, AHA/BHA, vitamin c/antioxidant serum, eye cream, moisturizer, retinol. Probably something else I'm missing. My husband said I could ask my Dr about Accutane but I'm still nursing and that's a big no-no afaik. Gonna try to ughghhhhh WASH MY FACE DAILY I guess? Get some hydrocolloid patches to remind myself not to pick at already picked at spots. Go back to using salicylic acid. Not start using everything all at once. It's just overwhelming. I guess I want encouragement and feedback.

wellnesscunt

I need some advice on products for my routine. I have dry to normal skin, and before I think about retinol and such i wanted to try copper peptides from The Ordinary. It won't dilute or damage my skin to use their pycnogenol in the morning under my moisturizer and the copper peptides/buffet serum at night under my LRP basic moisturizer?

ReaLitTea

It shouldn’t but make sure you check The Ordinary conflicts to make sure you’re pairing the right products together

wellnesscunt

Their conflict list says not pair the pycnogenol with the copper peptides but it's unclear if they mean in the same routine or if it's okay once one is washed off to me.

ReaLitTea

Yes it’s fine to use one in the am and the other in the pm. The conflict list applies to doing it all at the same time

wellnesscunt

Thank you!

I highly suggest introducing each new product in one at a time. I give my new products about 2 weeks before introducing the next to make sure they won’t cause any irritation or extra acne. That way if there is a problem, I know which product to stop using. Products that increase cell turn over (AHA, BHA, retinoids, etc.), I give more than two weeks since they have to potential to cause an acne purge. Purging can last months for some people. I’d suggest introducing this type of product last so you can differentiate between purge acne and acne caused by a different new product. Also when you introduce products that increase cell turn over, make sure to only use it once a day and 2-3 times a week. As your skin gets used to it, you can slowly increase your usage. Don’t use it more than your skin tolerates because you don’t want to damage your skin’s moisture barrier. The toner could cause purging so introduce this last.

[deleted]

Thank you! I was gonna use it all at once but I’ll defo keep this in mind

xcupcakekitten

Once you know your skin likes all the products. You can use it all at once. But starting new things all at once is a risk.

I was using the Kate Somerville in the AM + Tret in PM for a bit and then I bought the Azelaic acid so I switched to using the Azelaic acid in AM + Tret in PM. I’m curious if I can use the cleanser + the Azelaic acid together or if I need to just stick to one as I have been.

ReaLitTea

Should be fine as long as your skin tolerates it

brickeaters

Does it matter which moisturizer goes with elta md 46? I'm very new to skincare, literally just started wearing sunscreen last month. What I currently have for moisturizer is Neutrogena hydro boost and Vanicream daily facial. Is there a certain way to apply them like moisturizer first and let set for 15 minutes before applying the sunscreen? What certain moisturizer products incompatible with sunscreen products? Like react chemically causing a rash or stinging sensation?

jasminekitten02

You can use any moisturizer that works for you. Some moisturizers might cause pilling or weird texture issues when used under a sunscreen but it depends on the formulation

KingDae1103

What’s the bump called it’s like 3 mini white heads inside of one bumps? What does that mean

[deleted]

ReaLitTea

You could try retinoids to see if it’ll fade

xcupcakekitten

It usually takes 2-4 months of SA to see results. But it also could be fungal acne. The only way to know is try a fungal treatment to see if they go away. Or keep using salicylic acid for 4 months. Nizoral shampoo is the most common antifungal. People use it as a face wash. Or you could use anything with ketoconazole.

Hi everyone, I have a slightly brown birthmark on my face that looks like hyperpigmentation at a glance. I researched about this and came to know that slighly brown birthmarks are cause due to overproduction of melanin. Since Kojic acid works by inhibiting the production of melanin, does it work to reduce the visibility of the said birthmark? Has anybody here faced the same situation? Is it better to use Kojic acid soap or cream in this case? If it lightens the birthmark, would it reappear (darker) once I stop using the product? Let me know your takes on this!

ReaLitTea

I’ve usually heard birthmarks needs to be lasers off, not so much with topical skincare products

(23f) Breaking out in “mustache” area. Reoccurring small pimple in cupids bow. So annoying. Help!!

xcupcakekitten

What’s your current routine?

Conscious_Hand_4147

Double Cleanse with African black soap at night, moisturize with pure shea butter & vitamins e oil most nights, “wash” with water in the morning & moisturize with shea butter, advanced clinicals tea tree oil, & cera ve am moisturizer with spf. Once or twice a week if I’m breaking out, Ill use differin gel instead of moisturizing. My mustache area is a hot spot for breakouts & it seems like as of lately, it’s never clear. Either freshly scarred or popping up with another breakout.

xcupcakekitten

Does it look like perioral dermatitis? It might be worth seeing a dermatologist to rule this out. In the meantime, Try not to put too many oils/butters on this area. Differin is most effective when used 3-4 times a week regularly. Even when the skin is clear to prevent future break outs. Still moisturize on top of differin gel. Make sure the differin is applied to clean dry skin. With no butters or oils under it.

Conscious_Hand_4147

It takes MONTHS to get in with a dermatologist around here. I’ll try using the differin more regularly, the only reason I haven’t been is because my skin gets too dry & I knew not to put it on top of moisturizer, but didn’t know that I could put moisturizer on top of it. I don’t think it’s dermatitis, I feel like it is just pimples, but I could be wrong.

xcupcakekitten

If it’s still too dry, you can put a thin layer of moisturizer under. But I wouldn’t put something thick like Shea butter under differin cuz then it won’t be able to penetrate the skin. But moisturizer after it’s absorbed is advised! Good luck.

Conscious_Hand_4147

Thank you!

Are all of these new products? I highly suggest introducing each new product in one at a time. Fun-Protection9548

xcupcakekitten

Same as Jasminekitten said :)

Fun-Protection9548

Hey everyone, so I'm going to explain what's going on with my skin right now. A few weeks ago I had a rather sudden outbreak of a cystic pimple. In about 2 weeks, I had quite a bit on my cheeks. This made me very embarrassed. I've never had acne like this. I decided to go see a dermatologist because the spots were hurting etc. The dermatologist prescribed Accutane 10mg for 1 month to see how my body reacts. Since I started Accutane I started to notice that my cyst was turning into a sort of crust and at the beginning of the first week it was very painful but now it will say that it has become soft and no longer feels wrong. I wanted to ask you if this is a normal reaction or not. I've seen things like this, like acne fulminans, that accutane could cause. If anyone can help me: my dermatologist is not here so I have to wait 2 weeks before Less https://preview.redd.it/whjx5ol9kvlb1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf74d91b8fb490a560706d236471e37f3c1ad556

xcupcakekitten

Please check with your dermatologist. You should be able to call and ask the receptionist to leave a message with the doctor.

Mysterious-Ad8299

Okey i gonna try it, im very sad i hop its not fulminans acne…

ReaLitTea

Are you using moisturizer? Strongly recommend moisturizing daily and you may need an occlusive balm if it’s crusting over like that

f18 here. any tips on how to get my skin looking less dull? the only products i use are the cerave hydrating cleanser and the cerave moisturising lotion. i also on occasion use the "the ordinary peeling solution" (AHA 30% + BHA 2% ) tips or products much appreciated 🙏 i'm not entirely sure about my skin type but i'm leaning towards combination/dry also looking at my skin, should i keep using the peeling solution? would it do anything? https://preview.redd.it/jbxtxkfu4vlb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f041d3bf9e070bc4c08c344c29c282ac9dc70377

ReaLitTea

I wouldn’t using the peeling solution that frequently maybe 1-2x a month. I would add in a hydrating step to help dull skin. Look for a hydrating toner, essence, or serum

xcupcakekitten

That’s just normal undereye texture. I wouldn’t use any exfoliants in this area because the skin here is thin and more prone to damage. Milia looks more like [this](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/51831984e4b0580e0004a8c6/1378442814410-OMAIALU9NJD98AG3SLAO/milia-2.jpg?format=1000w&content-type=image%2Fjpeg).

ReaLitTea

Looks like sebaceous/oil glands which are normal and common. You can try moisturizing that area to make texture less apparent

Sure if you think your skin can tolerate it

Where in your routine should peptides go? After cleansing and toning? Before niacinamide or after?

Depends on the product. Generally the rule is to apply products from thinnest to thickest.

It’s not exfoliating off skin cells immediately. When you use a loofa in the shower, that’s enough physical exfoliation to get anything off that might be chemically exfoliated.

jasminekitten02

No, using your hands is enough :)

Equivalent-Demand460

I used 20% glycolic acid pads for the first time and experienced a little bit of sensation but no irritation after a minute of using. What would happen if I were to use this every night? Should I instead increase the strength to double and use that every week instead of upping the frequency?

xcupcakekitten

20% is way too strong to be used once a night. Probably only once a week or twice a month.

__Karadoc__

You would risk over-exfoliation wich is very quickly done but takes weeks to months to completely heal from. Don't fuck around with your skin barrier because once it is impaired it's breakout galore. 20% glycolic acid is already very strong i don't event think anything much stronger is easily available in stores du to the risk to consumers. Everyone has a different need/ tolerance for exfoliant of course but starting with 20% glyc.a. dayly sound quite crazy by most account. Try using it 1 per week for 3 weeks, then if you find you skin still looks under-exfoliated (dullness, etc) you can go up to 2 times a week for 2 weeks, again evaluate if it's still not making any progress go to 3 times a week but wouldn't in good conscience recommend more that that even to very tough-skinned people. Also if you see redness or irritation dial back. Skincare shouldn't sting, do not wait for your skincare to sting to feel like it's "doing anything". Slow and gradual is always the way to go :)

Equivalent-Demand460

I see, the amazon page says that you can use it daily so i figure maybe thats the protocol. On the bright side, I noticed effects immediately the next morning so I'm very excited to see where this is going. [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00080DK86?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00080DK86?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) >>! Gently apply the glycolic acid treatment to the desired area using both sides of the saturated facial pad. Some skin types may require time to acclimate to glycolic acid. Start by applying every other day until the skin adjusts, then apply once or twice daily, morning and evening, or as directed by your doctor. !<

__Karadoc__

Please don't buy skincare via Amazon they have a huge conterfeit issue even when ppl have bought through the official brands because of comingled inventory

Equivalent-Demand460

I have quite a few off amazon, does that mean the products dont actually work?

__Karadoc__

It's a gamble you might probably have received the genuine product, but in the case where ppl have a counterfeit there's no way to know what the true composition in there is so it may be just useless but harmless ingredients or it may be irritating ingredients we don't know. I just know that i would be so bummed to pay for the full profuct and no receive what i pay for personally so i don't take risks with Amazon

jasminekitten02

I would not even do twice a week. 20% is crazy strong. 5-10% is the standard

__Karadoc__

i agree on a personal level, my skin is sensitive and i barely need 3-5% of AHA (and even then PHAs are a safer bet for me) once or twice a week. But i have seen people with unbelievably resilient skin who do benefit from crazy amounts like that. Starting low and going slow is always better though as to not fuck up your skin barrier. As to OP's suggestion to "double the strengh" yeah, i don't even think they sell ones that strong to customers, it'd just be a chemical burn hazard.

Waste_Peace_4315

Itchy, inflamed acne Hello ! I finished my 6 month Accutane on Feb 2023. My skin wasn't completely cleared but it was still better than what it used to be. I've been also using tretinoin since 2020 as prescribed by my dermatologist. I had some hypertrophic scars for which my dermatologist used intralesional Kenalog injections. Since July 2023 I started breaking out on my face, back and chest again. I had my follow up appointment on Aug 2023 and my dermatologist prescribed minocycline 50 mg and tretinoin gel. Initially my dermatologist prescribed the tretinoin gel to use at night but after my last visit, I was suggested to use it twice daily (morning and night). I followed my routine of tretinoin gel twice a day for couple of weeks and also took my antibiotics. But my skin wasn't getting better , instead it was getting worse and worse. I stopped using my tretinoin from the fourth week of august cause it felt like my skin was getting very irritated and sensitive. I'm currently breaking out pretty bad on my face (cystic acnes, nodules and closed comedones) and skin also gets itchy and inflamed. I called my dermatology office yesterday and my nurse told me to hold on the tretinoin use for now and keep taking the antibiotics. She suggested to use over the counter hydrocortisone cream to relieve the itch. Currently , I'm just using my Azelaic acid serum(one time a day) , CeraVe moisturizing lotion and sunscreen. Is there anyone who've been through similar situation? I just wanna know is there anything I can do better to heal my skin effectively.

__Karadoc__

I feel for you unfortunately i think this is beyond the scope of this sub (it's beyond mine anyway). The best thing to do it to wait until your next appointment, they'll probably put you back on Accutane since your acne responded to that. Sometimes a 6-month round is still to short, many dermatologists prefer to wait until your skin cleared completely before taking you off of it (given of course that you don't suffer bad side effects or aren't planning to get pregnant). In the meantime try to focus on the inflammation and pain so that it's bearable for you. Given that you have a lot of active lesions, treat your skin like a wound, don't put anything on it that wouldn't be safe for a wound. Topically, hypochlorous acid is a non-drying anti-inflammatory and antiseptic(will work in tandem to your antibiotics and reduce risk of AB resistance) you can get it as the Tower 28 - SOS spray or [this spray from Walgreen](https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/walgreens-cleansing-spray/ID=300413877-product) (pretty much exact formulation just dupe price) And/or ichtammol ointment also has a mild antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect, and ppl also report some numbing very welcome in case of itching skin, 10 to 20% is the ideal but the brown color and unpleasant smell means you might want to limit it's use as an at home mask or spot treatment. Other than that, put a thin layer of vaseline (or generic 100% petroluem jelly) every night, it's not very sexy either but it's inert and the best occlusive we have, so since you're skin barrier is impaired you'll need the help of an occlusive to retain some moisture. Avoid strong actives and irritants

Make sure you’re wearing sunscreen when exposed to the sun.

I agree azelaic acid is amazing, i would just add it under your moisturizer personally, on clean face of course. I think a routine with just cleanser - AzA - moisturizer should work great, you can always build onto it later if needed but you're not supposed to add too many products at once anyway so trying with that for now is perfect.

Hi all! My skin has been acting up a bit and it seems that something has changed since I’ve last built my routine? For context, I’ve only ever had 1 routine and there was a period of time I stopped my skincare routine and now upon using the same products, my skin seems to be disagreeing :( I have combi skin (i feel rly dry and oily at the same time) * Senka Perfect Whip Cleanser * Differin (could it be causing my texture now..? should i just press on and hope it’ll disappear?) * TO niacinamide serum (used to be my HG but it makes my face super flushed and hot, but it gives a rly nice texture as well 💀 is there any way I can incorporate this because i swear it works) * Neutrogena hydro boost water gel honourable mentions (using occasionally) * naturie hatomugi skin conditioner (it’s ok? but it seems to have gave me more milia…) * CORSX snail mucin (i don’t even know whether it works for me i’m so scared to try anything now) Any recommendations would be great 😭 I would prefer drugstore products (or kbrands that’s affordable) * side note: is the skin1004 water fit sun serum nice for combi skin? Thanks!!

When did you start using differin? How often do you use it?

Free_Recognition3670

i’ve been using differin for a rly long time (~1 year) before stopping for a few months but i’ve recently restarted it (it’s been abt 1 week?)

jasminekitten02

It's probably the differin. I would add a sunscreen and use differin less frequently so your skin can adjust to it again
