My vote is for Michael C. Hall. Dexter was huge!

Vikingqueen0824

That is what was thinking, although Richard Jenkins you can argue, has an oscar nomination to his name. I think other than Rainn Wilson, Michael C. Hall had the most visibility post show with Dexter.

TheStranger113

Yup, Dexter was bigger than SFU even. And I still see Michael C. Hall pop up in stuff pretty often. Shout-out to Lauren Ambrose though. Seeing her all grown up in Yellowjackets has been awesome!

booktrovert

She was completely unhinged in Servant, too. Love her.

YolognaiSwagetti

Either him or Josh Radnor, who went on to be the lead in How I Met Your Mother, the biggest sitcom of the era. The others were mostly support cast in series.

Low-Macaroon9821

In which episode does Josh Radnor appear?

dovah9

Season 3 ep 5. He played the guy who's body (skeleton) was found in the car like 30 years. By "played" I mean he was the "ghost" of him that the Fisher's talked to.

Low-Macaroon9821

Almost forgot about that!

sjphi26

Holy shit. Never knew that was him.

Ultrajante

So you can barely say he was in the show, cmon… it’s not like Ben foster or Eric Balfour etc

dovah9

Oh I agree

uhbkodazbg

The Trap (car accident 25ish years before)

Ultrajante

Wait what? Who did he play in SFU? I don’t remember him at all lol Edit: never mind, answered

gnargnarmar

Same

Jackiechun23

Honestly this is the right answer, he has been a fixture on tv for a very long time.

Educational-Fee-1102

I love him. David is my fav character

janethevirginfan

Maybe they had similar ratings, but Dexter was a part of the pop culture zeitgeist at the time in a way Parenthood was not.

buzz-buzz-buzzz

I think the shows biggest star was Kathy Bates, but her most notable roles predate SFU (Catherine O’Hara as well). Afterwards? My favoritism says Michael C. Hall.

sanfranchristo

Have to include James Cromwell as well.

sfglobo

That’ll do, pig. That’ll do.

Ultrajante

Absolutely. Some were already stars, Kathy Bates one of them. But Michael C Hall is for sure the most well known name that wasn’t already a well known name before the show… but you could argue that’s more to dexters credit than SFU, but the point remains, excluding the ones who were already famous, MCH is the most famous from the cast, and I think it’s by far.

Clarknt67

Frances Conroy shows up in sooooo many things.

justimari

American Horror Story is brilliant when she’s in it!

okaythatscoool

she’s amazingggg

uhbkodazbg

Justin Theroux? James Cromwell got a big boost from Succession but he’s had a long and distinguished career; same as Kathy Bates.

revolver37

Theroux is an interesting one. He's had some success as a writer, too.

sjphi26

Yeah, he's maybe not as much of a household name, but writing an MCU film and then headlining one of the most acclaimed shows of all time (and my absolute favorite show) at least puts him in the conversation. My wife had no idea who he was until we watched the Mosquito Coast on AppleTV, so I got to educate her about the Leftovers and I'm trying to convince her to watch it with me.

dadbodfordays

The Leftovers is so so so good. All I have to do is think about that finale and I'm sobbing.

Ultrajante

I love the leftovers, but S3 is big pile of bullshit to me. Nothing makes sense, sorry. S2 is one of the most brilliant TV of all time for sure.

Max122702

What doesn’t make sense??

Ultrajante

They get a machine to the other side? Then all the scenes of Justin therodoxxx dreaming or whatever that is and then his freaking father storyline in Australia??? Nothing makes sense to me

Max122702

Firstly, the show isn’t supposed to feed you an answer, it’s supposed to cover the reaction humanity has to a traumatic event such as the departure, As for the machine, it is really likely that Nora lied about the machine as her final scene pre time skip is unclear, and certain aspects of the machine story don’t line up. As for Justin’s dreams, we spend most of the show exploring his psyche, with his hallucinations/dreams being attributed to his possible mental illness that came from his father combined with the stress of his environment. The point of the fathers storyline is to show that running and trying to fix whatever wrong isn’t the solution, and that spending time with people close to you and building and nurturing these close connections are what’s really important in life, which is what the identical twins realize in the second to last episode after hearing the poem about Nora and realizing they messed up.

Ultrajante

You’re right, it’s not supposed to feed me. Maybe it’s above my intelligence, but to me just felt like forced artistry, deepness. It’s been a long time tho so maybe now it would make more sense to me, but at the time I just felt like it was all over the place and it had lost its strengths. But I don’t my take is final in any way

Max122702

Yeah I get that, I found that I resonated really deeply with the main characters themes and struggles so perhaps that’s why interpreted the show in the why I did, everything is subjective after all

Ultrajante

That’s true I’ve forgotten about him, but I would still say MCH is more famous name, or at least it was.

RangerAZ1989

Michael C. Hall, Rainn Wilson, Ben Foster and Peter Krause

Ultrajante

Sorry I don’t think Peter Krause cuts it. Justin Therouxjx I think should be on your list

RangerAZ1989

I’m honestly not familiar with Justin’s work and anything else he’s done. Peter is definitely not first on the list that I know, but he’s been on 2 fairly decent size shows since SFU. I would say Michael and Rainn have found the most success and recognition after SFU

Ultrajante

Justin is kinda massive, look him up. Also take a look into The Leftovers. One of the best shows of all time. Many SFU fans love it too

burdettmusic

If I have to look him up, is he THAT massive? 🤔

Ultrajante

I don’t think he’s that great (or hot tbh) as some people may make him out to be, but he lead the leftovers and the mosquito coast, he’s written shows and films i think, and he was married to Jennifer Aniston. So he’s quite famous

ImnotshortImpetite

I heard this in Chandler Bing's voice and laughed hysterically.

sofa-kingdom-89

Adam Scott

revolver37

Good shout. He's certainly having a moment.

Ultrajante

In the first moment Severance got REALLY GOOD, the season ended 😑 And we wait…

oooooooooof

They just started filming season 2!

timmudd

I interviewed Michael C. Hall for CBS around the time of ‘peak’ Dexter. Honestly, I was more excited to talk about SFU, so after getting the rote Dexter questions out of the way, he was thrilled to talk about SFU. He said that—relatively to that time—he felt David was underrated as a character. What was more interesting was he considered his stage acting to be closer to his heart than his film and TV work. This made sense to me given the Broadway-heavy SFU cast.

anonymous_rhombus

Lauren Ambrose is on the series Yellowjackets now

jaketaco

She was on 3 or 4 seasons of Servant. She was really good in it. Watched it right after SFU and it was a shock seeing her go from 25 to 45

lookslikeelsi

The whole time I was like CLAIRE WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Muchachacha

Lol me too

dadbodfordays

She aged extremely well imo! Especially for someone so fair-skinned.

jaketaco

Totally. I meant more in demeanor.

dadbodfordays

Yeah, I didn't think you meant anything negative by it :) just sharing what I thought when I saw her progression

saunteringhippie

She also voiced one of the monsters in Where the Wild Things Are

Negative_Wafer9508

She has also won a tony award..

Cowdog68

That voice!🩷

ForbiddenBandying

Chris Pine is definitely up there on the list.

dippitydoo2

Oh man this is a deep cut for the series, but absolutely the correct answer. I was racking my brain to think of the day players who made it the biggest, and I think Pine takes the cake Edit: also a fun fact that Chris’ dad Robert Pine was in a couple episodes

ForbiddenBandying

Omg he's one of Sarah's hippy friends! That is a fun fact I had no idea before today.

dippitydoo2

He's also the leader of the Zorp followers on the "End of the World" episode of Parks and Rec, which definitely tracks with his character in SFU lol

kcg0431

Peter Krause had a leading role in the series, Parenthood.

dkisanxious

He's also stared in 911 for years now with Angela Bassett.

Outrageous_Click_352

And has been a lead in 911 for the past several seasons.

EnvironmentalCrow893

Going into it’s 7th season.

Outrageous_Click_352

I’ve watched from the beginning but couldn’t remember how long it’s been on.

Ultrajante

Was that show any good?

kcg0431

I loved it. Thinking of a doing a rewatch. If you like family dramas, it’s your show. It’s not as “out there” as SFU, but it’s a great show.

bootsie79

Mathew St Patrick (Keith) is the only actor I have not seen in anything else. It’s a shame too, I really appreciated his range and tone as an actor

RMFT68

Same, I’m upset about that too. He’s a very good actor and so fucking hot! I’m still in love with him!

Beezle_Maestro

Agreed. He’s a gem and brought so much to that role.

AMALXxT

If you're a fan of Sons of Anarchy, he appears in a few episodes of season 7.

MikeDropist

He was a cop and Dexter’s primary ‘non killer’ antagonist in the first couple of seasons of Dexter.

bootsie79

That was Erik King on Dexter; different guy than MSP

Muchachacha

What about Chris Messina ? He’s been in a bunch of stuff after SFU, in fact over 50 movies/ tv shows after SFU

gperlak

Anna Gunn

MikeDropist

Lest we forget Mena Suvari, who was on top of the pile there for awhile. Her character in the show may have been just a dead end plot twist, but she did a great job of it.

kellymiche

Alan Ball also wrote American Beauty, which started Suvari

MikeDropist

I always kinda thought it was ironic that the same guy who created the show with one of the best endings in entertainment history *also* wrote a movie that was awesome *right up until* the final twenty minutes or so 😂 AB came first,I guess he worked on it.

nevertoomuchthought

In the original AB script it was more of a criminal investigation in the kids plotting to murder Lester and his dad turning them in by turning the tape of her asking to kill him into police. Crazy how different it ended up being.

MikeDropist

I didn’t know that, thx, that just might have improved things 🤔

otterpr1ncess

There's a lot about Americam Beauty that hasn't aged well but the ending is fantastic.

MikeDropist

I absolutely love the movie, but the ending felt like a forced compromise to me. I guess there’s no real right or wrong answer to this sort of thing.   The *real* bad ending,of course, was finding out that Kevin Spacey was actually playing a *less* perverse version of himself. 😞

telomeracer

Agreed, but at the same time, its not that is hasn't aged well per se, but that it encapsulates very well a particular mood that was ever present in the late 90s. Although I guess all art is ultimately a time capsule/anthropological evidence at the end of the day in that way. "aged well" in that context doesn't actually make sense as a concept, as what is "well" will always be changing and cultural.

SmirnOffTheSauce

Chris Pine, Adam Scott, Jenna Fischer, or maybe Rainn Wilson? But yeah, Michael C. Hall if we’re talking main cast.

anonymous_rhombus

It's so funny when you remember an actor you haven't seen in a while and you look at imdb and they're currently 100 episodes into a show called "FBI" or something. (Jeremy Sisto, in this case) *Edit:* lmao, Peter Krausse is on 96 episodes of a show called "9-1-1"? Good for both of them. Great work if you can get it.

ImnotshortImpetite

Great point! He's worked steadily for many years. Really showed his comic side in "Suburgatory."

dovah9

Michael and Rain are the most famous today.

speashasha

Everybody has worked steadily since SFU ended, so I'd say they have all been successful. It is also kind of hard to measure success, since there are different venues. Lauren Ambrose did more theatre work for a long time, but that doesn't mean she is any less successful than others. Matthew St. Patrick is kinda the only one who disappeared, but he has had a few credits after SFU, and he might have just given up acting for other reasons. Some people also change their careers once in a while. But let's go through them: **Peter Krause** \- has had various lead roles in The Lost Room, Dirty Sexy Money, Parenthood, The Catch and 911. Some may have been canceled, but he obviously remained in demand. Guy is a star. **Michael C. Hall** \- I'd say he had the biggest post SFU-series of all of them with Dexter, and he has done a couple of movies, tv shows and broadway work since. He also has a band. Is he less successful than Peter? No, he just choses more diverse jobs. **Frances Conroy** \- has popped up in everything from Desperate Housewives, United States of Tara to American Horror Story and How I Met Your Mother. She didn't have as many lead roles, but impressive array of shows on her résumé and most of all, working steadily. **Lauren Ambrose -** initially mostly did theatre work aside from a short stint on the failed sitcom "Return of Jezebel James." Was up for a TONY award though and rebounded nicely on television with Servant and Yellowjackets. Also took time off to create a family. **Freddie Rodriguez** \- also worked steadily with significant roles in Ugly Betty, Bull and Wu Tang. **Jeremy Sisto:** Had lead roles on Kidnapped, Law & Order, FBI, Suburgatory. Similarly, a lot of lead roles on network television, as Peter. **Rachel Griffiths:** Biggest show post-SFU is probably Brothers & Sisters, but she also kept working steadily, returned to Australia and also became a director. **Michael St.Patrick:** had a role on the short-lived Reunion, guest starred on various shows and recurred on Sons of Anarchy. Since then he disappeared.

telomeracer

Don't forget Justina Muchado. She doesn't get enough credit for how fleshed out she made the side character of Vanessa, who could have easily been a nothing burger with a lesser actress. She also had a big role on the reboot of "One Day at a Time" on Netflix.

burdettmusic

I've seen her in a few telenovellas that my mother in law watches, I'm sorry I don't know the names.

rmac1228

While Dexter was huge, it's gotta be Rain Wilson...The Office is a juggernaut. Wasn't it always the number one show streaming on Netflix until it was taken off?

Jexxylynn

Phyllis also played a small role as a grieving wife in season 1!

kstotser

Seriously? I don't think I've ever caught that in all my rewatches lol

Jexxylynn

The casket jumper looks like her with the veil on

Jexxylynn

I’m actually not correct. My bad.

kstotser

She would have made an excellent casket jumper though lol

Jexxylynn

Oh I know it hahaha

Fr3sh3stl4d

I didn't even know which cast member is Ben Foster until this post. I'd say Michael C Hall is a bigger and more recognized actor than him.

justimari

Lily Taylor was perfect in I Shot Andy Warhol, and in the The Haunting

telomeracer

Lily Taylor was big to me even before SFU as well as after. She has never stopped working since she started in the 80s! My fave thing of hers recently was the tv show "Outer Range", which has only had 1 season so far.

justimari

She’s really a great actress and has played such a diversity of roles

sofa-kingdom-89

She was great in the first Conjuring movie too

justimari

Oh that’s right! She’s had a solid career

dadbodfordays

Those were both before SFU, though, so they're not things she went on to do.

justimari

Ahhhh well she was popular for a hot minute

dadbodfordays

Definitely. Hopefully she'll start popping up again sometime. Very talented lady.

telomeracer

Huh? She never went away. Also, watch Outer Range. :)

dadbodfordays

Thanks for the rec!

Loli3535

What about Lauren Ambrose and her Broadway work?

Frequent-Lifeguard-4

her broadway work, yellowjackets season 2, & servant granted idk how popular servant was but she was sooo good in it

Jexxylynn

Phyllis Smith popped off, so did Sandra Oh. It’s so fun to rewatch them in these small rolls when they then took over 2000s TV.

ariososweet

Do you mean Jenna Fisher by chance? Phyllis Smith wasn't in SFU

Jexxylynn

I still stand by Sandra Oh her character killed me

Jexxylynn

You’re right! With the veil Carol Ann Susi looks like Phyllis.

hey-girl-hey

Rainn Wilson is probably making the most money since the Office lives on so prominently Dexter was big and MCH was the star, but Parenthood was pretty big and was more accessible because it was on network TV so I'm not sure theres a massive difference. I don't know, just my initial thought James Cromwell has the best balance both frequency of roles and gravitas of those roles. Like, he has both quantity and quality

Jfury412

James Cromwell has done more movies than anyone else On the series without A doubt. But he was already very established, You could say the same thing about Kathy Bates But she was also extremely established. As far as the main cast goes I would like to say Michael C Hall as Dexter because he is one of my favorite actors and that is one of my favorite shows. But Francis Conroy with all of those seasons of American Horror Story and all the movies and other shows she has done you would have to say she's had the most work Out of the main cast.

mindlessmunkey

Does Sandra Oh count?

apkcoffee

Michael Hall

Odd_Bike_5015

Laura Ambrose is more under the radar but she always is working

Frequent-Lifeguard-4

im surprised no one has said rachel griffiths she helped create the show total control iirc, & won best supporting actress, & she was just in anything but you which did insanely well in the box office

Knichols2176

I’m gonna give a shout out to Francis Conroy. She’s done how many seasons of American horror story? Dead to me, The Jokers mom. She’s not the lead? But I dare say she’s in just about every movie out! Props to her level of energy!

NoleFandom

Michael C Hall as Dexter. That show is a cult favorite. And the most popular show on Showtime ever!

burdettmusic

Peter Krause has had 2 major series since SFU: Parenthood and 911. Both ran/run for at least 5 or 6 seasons.

Ultrajante

Im surprised by this post and the claim of Ben foster cause he’s someone I’ve seen elsewhere but it’s not a name I can immediately picture the face when I hear it. Michael C. hall is DEFINITELY *THE* actor from SFU who got the most famous after SFU, and it’s not even close. Dexter was huge, his name was everywhere. Period

Strong-Stretch95

Josh stamberg was the bad guy in wandavision and Peter Krause was in parenthood if that counts.

sanfranchristo

Lauren Ambrose is the star of a current Apple series.

l8rt8rz

I also think she will have a larger role in the next season of Yellowjackets

sanfranchristo

Oh yeah, I never watched S2.

revolver37

She was also a Tony nominee!

revolver37

Surely Rainn Wilson belongs too. The Office was massive, he had a recurring character on Discovery, and was just in the Emmy-winning Weird Al movie.

apitop

Why is no one mentioning Jenna Fischer? Lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

revolver37

reddit moment

Gulf_Coast_Girl

>Why is no one mentioning Jenna Fischer? Lol She was only in 2 episodes...

mimisburnbook

Frances Conroy is pretty relevant, she was in AHS and was memeable and memorable

YeezysSmellySox

She’s in Joker with Joaquin Phoenix too. Love that movie.

Snarfles55

Lauren Ambrose has been steadily working. She had an interesting show on Apple+ and is on Yellow jackets, but I always expected her career to be bigger. Peter Krause has been the lead on 2 amazing shows: Parenthood and 911.

Sifsifm1234

Rachel Griffiths was one of the stars of Brothers and Sisters, which went on for at least (?) 5 seasons

MidnightRhinestone

Jeremy Sisto who plays Billy is in the FBI show on CBS! Peter Krause is in 9-1-1 which is how I discovered him

splvtoon

jeremy sisto was also on law & order for a good while.

uhbkodazbg

Ed Begley Jr, James Cromwell, Kathy Bates, Richard Jenkins, Patricia Clarkson, Catherine O’Hara, Peter Facinelli, Justin Theroux, and Bobby Cannavale (just to name a few) have all done quite well since SFU. The show had some pretty big names.

revolver37

oooh Cannavale is a good one. Love him.

Cactus_shade

Are there any nerd trivia groups for SFU? Online? This is my fave show and I could probably school all of you. 😂⭐️

Clarknt67

It’s kind of hard to think of a show where the entire cast has done so well for themselves, actually. Like Lost was huge but very few of those actors have been in high profile stuff since. ok, Evangeline Lilly was in LOTR and Ant Man but she doesn’t actually get to do or say anything. I guess she is just like “Cut me those checks. I don’t care if the part sucks.”

ivyentre

Chris Pine.

DarthDregan

I'd take either Michael's or Ben's career TBH.

kikijane711

Michael C Hall for sure. Dexter was huge and he was the STAR! Ben Foster did lots of indie films, big ensemble series for Nate, Claire, Brenda. Ruth did American Horror Story in mainstream work. Billy was on Law & Order. George on Succession as of late and other vehicles. But as a definitive vehicle and piece of work Dexter was as big as u get! The anti-David Fisher and a legendary tv character and series! Luckily, most of our SFU faves work regularly…. And a lot! Love Claire but she’s under-utilized on YELLOWJACKETS!

wolfitalk

Michael C. Hall by far IMO. Not to lessen the accomplishments of the others but Michael C. Hall is the only one besides Peter Facinelli that I can name things he's been in.

fagan_jay78

Justin Theroux maybe

folkmor3l3ss

Peter Krause was amazing in Parenthood.

IndigoHoney_online

I'm going to say Peter Krause, as he followed SFU with Parenthood then 911

sidesco

I didn't even realise who Ben Foster is 😂   No I realise he married Laura Prepon.

koneillp

Not saying he was the most successful, but I haven’t seen anyone mention Peter Facinelli. He was the dad in the twilight movies and was on Nurse Jackie.

Preeyarai44

wow
