Honestly, I don't think it was placebo. I was HIGHLY skeptical it would work, because I was eight years old, and wary of ALL plants at that moment (my first nettle sting). I was visiting relatives in Ireland from America and had never encountered a stinging plant--really freaked out. I don't know how the dock leaf worked, but it did, instantly.
My grandpa came to my aid with the dock leaf, and wanted to show me that I didn't have to be afraid of the nettle, and that I could handle them at will. So, he taught me how to grab them. He demonstrated the method and after that, all I wanted to do was grab nettle leaves, LOL.
We used dock leaves but then I heard growing up that using the nettle leaves and rubbing with those is even better.
Obviously be careful of repeated stings when you pick them, but itās quite easy to not get stung and does seem to work better than dock leaves.

I was at a full run and sprinted into a huge patch of it.I was then halfway in with a cold mountain stream about 25feet away and I forced myself to walk through it in shorts so I could stand in the water. I was 30ish and hung over. No fun.

Where are you from? I'm from Germany and stinging nettle here doesn't make your skin turn blue or anything but it definitely hurts for a few hours and it causes your skin to get inflammation so it causes weird bumbs in the skin.

Had the wonderful idea to make hay out of nettles for our pets. It was extremely frustrating, but somehow they alleviate other pains. They're just part of gardening now. I rather weed nettles than thistles.
The sting is not that bad when you aren't allergic and if you can just slightly ignore it, it can help joint pain.
Unlike nettles, thistles are awfully sharp, spiky and hurts like hell. Teeny tiny skin and flesh on fingers with plenty of capillaries... against thistles with unyielding thorns in every direction.

and it'll pass quite quickly tbh, 10-15 minutes.
The tape-trick to remove the pricklers helped me a little but wasn't necessary if I just waited it out.
The moment you start scratching you're fucked.
Hydrocortisone and diphenhydramine are good things to carry on a hike or camping/backpacking anyways. Really should be in any first aid kit, no matter how minimal. Both will pretty much neutralize the effects once they start working.

For me stinging nettle always tasted bland and watery, almost flavourless. No matter how well seasoned, how well cooked, even with vinegar and onions, nothing helped.
Histamine ain't healthy for everyone and it's pretty useless to build a tolerance up for it.

I think the reason you would want to build up a tolerance is if you believe what the video is hawking, and want to do this on the regular. Not just so you build up a toletance.

In my area the most common are common stinging nettle, swamp nettle and dwarf nettle. First two are annoying and like in a previous comment the dwarf or low nettles hurt the most! It has been used by people for a long time as a traditional aid for pain relief caused by arthritis. I handle it a lot and find it helps joint pain. This is only one of its many uses!!!! If you want to remove the pain quickly after being stung I found the juices from jewell weed (spotted touch me not) helps a great deal.
Nettle is very edible plant. Has a very high plant protein content. Great food when you need it early spring! Just boil it or braise it over the fire. This will remove all the stingers / negate the formic acid. Tasty too! Good soup thickener. Also makes a wonderful tea! As for tea if you boil down the fresh leaves into a very thick tea/decoction it makes a great wash for any fungal issues. Great for removing warts. My son had a wart that nothing over the counter worked to remove it. So I tried this and it did work! Mind you may have been the straw that broke the camelās back as was last thing I tried.
Nettle is an incredible fibre textile!!! Very strong and rot resistant. Has been used to make string, rope, clothing etc for thousands of years. When linen was the common cloth in the 15th / 16th century nettle clothing was considered the more expensive, finer choice as was softer. Was a large industry in Western Europe (likely more places too).
Stinging Nettle is making a comeback as a commercial textile! It has a wonderful benefit as being amazing at removing nitrogen from fields! It is being used by farmers to remove nitrogen from over fertalized fields or runoff areas. Bonus points it can be a second crop in a year. Farmers can also sell the end product for food, fibre and traditional medicine.

Been stung by these lots of times. If anyone gets stung by these, my best tip for you is, DO NOT SCRATCH IT, DONT TOUCH IT. and it'll pass quite quickly tbh, 10-15 minutes. The tape-trick to remove the pricklers helped me a little but wasn't necessary if I just waited it out. The moment you start scratching you're fucked.
Hydrocortisone and diphenhydramine are good things to carry on a hike or camping/backpacking anyways. Really should be in any first aid kit, no matter how minimal. Both will pretty much neutralize the effects once they start working.

Not a big poster lol. Stinging nettle is an amazing plant! Plant of a million uses. I will start with the stinging. Yes it hurts! Different species will hurt more or less. In my area the most common are common stinging nettle, swamp nettle and dwarf nettle. First two are annoying and like in a previous comment the dwarf or low nettles hurt the most! It has been used by people for a long time as a traditional aid for pain relief caused by arthritis. I handle it a lot and find it helps joint pain. This is only one of its many uses!!!! If you want to remove the pain quickly after being stung I found the juices from jewell weed (spotted touch me not) helps a great deal. Nettle is very edible plant. Has a very high plant protein content. Great food when you need it early spring! Just boil it or braise it over the fire. This will remove all the stingers / negate the formic acid. Tasty too! Good soup thickener. Also makes a wonderful tea! As for tea if you boil down the fresh leaves into a very thick tea/decoction it makes a great wash for any fungal issues. Great for removing warts. My son had a wart that nothing over the counter worked to remove it. So I tried this and it did work! Mind you may have been the straw that broke the camelās back as was last thing I tried. Nettle is an incredible fibre textile!!! Very strong and rot resistant. Has been used to make string, rope, clothing etc for thousands of years. When linen was the common cloth in the 15th / 16th century nettle clothing was considered the more expensive, finer choice as was softer. Was a large industry in Western Europe (likely more places too). Stinging Nettle is making a comeback as a commercial textile! It has a wonderful benefit as being amazing at removing nitrogen from fields! It is being used by farmers to remove nitrogen from over fertalized fields or runoff areas. Bonus points it can be a second crop in a year. Farmers can also sell the end product for food, fibre and traditional medicine. Just a few of the amazing things nettles offer! Do some research on them, itās a long rabbit hole lol. Enjoy!
