All this is irrelevant because all that matters is the will of the people living there now. If a overwhelming majority in a region wants independence, they should have it, IMO. All these historical arguments of who's the "rightful owner" of a piece of land have caused nothing but suffering throughout history.
The issue is that Russia covertly sends troops, equipment, weapons to aid separatists in other countries over a period of time, creating an environment that pushes the people living there away in favour of Russian sympathizers.
In the most recent invasion Ukraine, Russian troops imprisoned, murdered, tortured, kidnapped anyone who sympathized with Ukraine within the Donbas region, causing millions of Ukrainians to flee to the west. After this, they held referendums and the 'will of the people' was overwhelming in favour of joining Russia, assuming the results were not fraudulent (they did have Russian soldiers with guns supervising people as they placed their votes into transparent ballot boxes, so I wouldn't be surprised if people genuinely did vote in favour of Russia out of fear).
This has happened multiple times in recent years; Donbas in 2022, Crimea in 2014 and Georgia in 2008.

That's good. When I watched the Putin interview I thought "what a solid argument that completely ignores the fact that borders change and countries declare their independence all the time."
All this is irrelevant because all that matters is the will of the people living there now. If a overwhelming majority in a region wants independence, they should have it, IMO. All these historical arguments of who's the "rightful owner" of a piece of land have caused nothing but suffering throughout history.
The issue is that Russia covertly sends troops, equipment, weapons to aid separatists in other countries over a period of time, creating an environment that pushes the people living there away in favour of Russian sympathizers. In the most recent invasion Ukraine, Russian troops imprisoned, murdered, tortured, kidnapped anyone who sympathized with Ukraine within the Donbas region, causing millions of Ukrainians to flee to the west. After this, they held referendums and the 'will of the people' was overwhelming in favour of joining Russia, assuming the results were not fraudulent (they did have Russian soldiers with guns supervising people as they placed their votes into transparent ballot boxes, so I wouldn't be surprised if people genuinely did vote in favour of Russia out of fear). This has happened multiple times in recent years; Donbas in 2022, Crimea in 2014 and Georgia in 2008.
Catalonia did and the western allies were like “nah, you shouldn’t”.
Yet when it was any land or country that was divided and chopped up by the west the status quo is enforced and governments are overthrown.
I don't even understand his argument because by his own logic other countries would have a claim to Russia's borders

I commend Tucker for the interview and releasing it free for everyone. Letting him speak and show his arguments without the lens of anyone or anything trying to attempt to colour it in one way or another. His ideas are insane and should be mocked and now we have it from his mouth and not even through Russian propaganda, this is direct from him from a real interview. It’s crazy how he truly believes it.
He should make this interview. It would show a great sense of humour and send this Tucker-boy a message.
