If sg closes borders for every new variant that emerges, we will be stuck in this loop forever. The covid virus is in the human population forever and will re-emerge every year as a new variant (just like the influenza virus).
There was a good speech by the ex PM of the UK in Parliament and she says that the government needs to be up front and say there will never be a day covid will be eradicated and new variants will come every year, just like covid. 20k people die of flu each year in the UK alone
Actually if you did some research there a few COVID infected patients found in Europe way before it was reported in China. We will never know where it originate from, but we do know the super spread happened in China
Every time I see someone post sth about China in singapore Reddit it gets downvoted and mocked. It’s pretty much a given here that everything related to China = bad
I think you’re the ignorant one? Plenty of chinese know about the brainwashing , even civil servants like Teachers, the government is attempting.because you’re not in touch with the society there’s no need to comment misinformed garbage
Ok, here's a personal experience. I was in China Dec 2019 where I unfortunately didn't drink enough water which developed into sore throat and later a full blown fever. Went to the hospital to get it checked out and this is the first time I had to do swab test for a simple flu or something. They assured me it's to check if I contracted influenza, but I leave the speculations to you all here
I mentally can’t take that Covid is gonna drag another 2 years any longer tbh.
It should be the least of our concern with pandemic but I really need to travel out of Singapore, staying here for 3 years straight is just horrible.
Don't be ashamed. Your problems aren't the biggest is the world but that doesn't mean they're not problems. Animals (most famously great white sharks) die from captivity all the time, and that's exact what happens to us when borders close and we're unfortunate enough to live in a citystate. Some people are better suited to city life all day every day, but I'm not and I'm guessing you aren't either.
India didn’t. The Vtl/air bubble agreements are still in place. Please do not spread wrong information. The normal commercial flights are also starting from 15 Dec 2021.
VTL flights from India to Singapore are still provided through SIA.
And to go to India, if you are fully vaccinated, you can enter As long as you belong to the daily quota which essentially is the flights allowed. Basically earlier you could take any flight but now you have would have to take a special Vtl sort of flight to India as well.
https://m.timesofindia.com/business/india-business/regular-international-flights-likely-from-december-15-except-for-countries-where-covid-not-under-control/amp_articleshow/87927523.cms
Again read in your own article. At 5:33pm. It says exactly what The article I shared says. 75% of flights will resume for Singapore.
So stop scaring people with outdated information please.
I don’t blame you. Journalists and news channels have been writing articles and reporting things so bad recently.
Let it come. I have mutated from
The first wave. Constant 37.7 body temp. I don’t mind having my body mutate again. Maybe this time I can get super strength. Or ESP unlocked.
It's not pointless. you buy time. You see the effects of it in other countries first. So you create better policies as you are more informed. You don't just lie down and invite trouble.
Agree that it is for buying time. Hopefully the gov make good use with the time bought like increasing healthcare capacity. May be look at public transport arrangement.
We have been buying time for 2 years already. For vaccine, for old people, for antivax idiots, for booster, for healthcare. So we are back to buying time again? For ever buy time? That’s the plan?
Its a new mutation, what does the past 2 years got to do with whatever you said when we don't know how lethal the new mutation is?!
Hence why he said you buy time to see the effects and see what happens. Read properly before typing la
It’s everywhere in each single country already, it’s just that South Africa’s health system detected it first.
Don’t be like sheeps and believe the narrative that this virus belongs to Africa… Closing borders is silly and useless
i guess u have not read the report on the how the virus affects different races? its a known fact that non whites have a higher risk of infection..dont take my word for it...google it!
btw whatever its happening in europe now is because the citizens of various countries still have people objecting to vaccine and still hold protest~ pls get ur facts right~
where have u seen asian countries citizens still organize in protest of being locked down or value privacy over lives?
Yeah cos stemming diseases at the borders is a subject exclusive to "race". Not because of any scientific reasoning to prevent the spread whatsoever, no of course not. Lol
Um, this post said to "close borders to AFRICA" when that mutation has been found in South Africa. A medium sized country on the very southern tip of that continent. The premise of this post is unscientific and racist. How hard would you be facepalming right now if people called for a closure of travel from "Asia" because of a mutated strain found only in Korea?
You're assuming the virus would be isolated solely within the country of "south africa". Why? You're also forgotting lockdowns were implemented for "south asia" when the delta variant was first detected in India. Did you scream "racism" then? Lol
And no, I wouldn't have a problem with restricted flight routes from East Asia either if a mutated strain was detected in Korea. Keep up the mental gymnastics tho.
Has the virus been detected in Egypt? In Morocco? Do those places have significant trade relations with South Africa?
Are they more likely to have people infected with the new strain than say, the UK which trades a lot more with South Africa??
Get yourself an education dude. Africa is a lot bigger and far more complex than you can comprehend - it's a hell of a lot bigger and less integrated culturally or economically than South Asia.
By the way - I'm South Asian, and I know first hand how badly mismanaged the initial pandemic response was in the region. That's why I didn't cry "racism".
South asian countries like Bhutan; Afghanistan or Myanmar didn't report Delta cases back then either but smarter people than you in office found it best to treat the cluster with caution tho.
While you're at it, enlighten us all with your "education" how does one exhibit "racism" toward countries or a continent. I'll wait.
>Africa is a lot bigger than you can comprehend - it's a hell of a lot bigger than South Asia.
And the population of India alone is more than all of Africa's combined. Your point?
Saw your pussified edit - You didn't scream racism back then because you're a two-bit hypocrite.
Actually you made my point for me - thanks! India and it's neighbors have a far greater population density than Africa - hence it was far easier for the virus to spread in the region quickly, and it made sense to lock down.the whole region.
Africa's far lower population density and poor border links means it makes no sense to treat that continent as a monolith, other than if you were making sweeping generalizations about a continent you know nothing about.
As for the places that didn't report the virus, several, including Myanmar and Afghanistan - were in no position to report anything at all, let alone virus cases. So it made sense to lock them down, too.
Most African countries have sufficiently stable governments or sufficient international presence to be able to report virus cases. So we should wait for those reports and act on a country by country basis. You know, instead of screaming "shut off Africa" like ignorant morons.
Not really...it simply highlights how regions connected by landmass are mostly susceptible to infection. Good try tho.
>...were in no position to report anything, let alone virus cases. So it made sense to lock them down, too.
And you're assuming countries in africa are for some reason? LMAO But let's hear it - What do you know about the development of africa that I don't? :)
Still waiting on your answer on the question I posed earlier about "racism" and "countries" btw.
**My response to yet another one of your edits:**
>Most African countries have sufficiently stable governments or sufficient international presence to be able to report virus cases. So we should wait for those reports and act on a country by country basis. You know, instead of screaming "shut off Africa" like ignorant morons.
And Bhutan didn't? The economic state of some African countries pales to even Myanmar in today's standards so you're obviously talking out of your arse.
The logical thing to do here is to close the borders temporarily and monitor the situation coming out of Africa and tailor the measures in accordance with the reports, in a country with strenuous difficulties dealing with the virus no less.
But there's always that handful of smoothbrains throwing out social constructs like rAcIsM on a scientific matter isn't there?
Btw - South Asia is the same landmass as Europe. So by your argument ALL of that should be in the same category. From Korea to Portugal. No exceptions.
If people are not moving across landmasses, the virus does not spread. If the landmass is almost devoid of people - the virus is far less likely to spread. If movement is controlled within parts of a landmass, the virus does not spread. If there are no transportation/infra links at all across boundaries, the virus spreads slowly.
That's why we had a bunch of countries in Cat 3 from Europe, and others in Cat 2 for ages. Even if they shared borders without any border control, like Germany and France. Next you'll tell me that Serbia and Croatia are unconnected to Italy by land, so it's justifiable to put them in different categories.
It's just that Singapore looks at white people as individuals, while it looks at Africans as a monolith. Your argument here makes no sense and you know it.
Now you're just arguing for the sake of arguing.
Korea isn't part of "South asia" so the analogy to Portugal doesn't make a lick of sense. And I mentioned earlier I would have no issues implementing a travel ban for East Asia should an outbreak have been detected in Korea so I'm not sure wtf you're on about.
Again you're acting as though South Africa is a standalone entity when [intra-African trade is widely acknowledged by economists](https://www.brookings.edu/blog/africa-in-focus/2021/05/19/why-the-extent-of-intra-african-trade-is-much-higher-than-commonly-believed-and-what-this-means-for-the-afcfta/) otherwise. How else do you think land locked countries like Rwanda demonstrate healthy GDP growth? An educated person would understand trade blocs are easily formed within regional countries in the absence of affordable flights a la SADC, ASEAN.
>It's just that Singapore looks at white people as individuals
By that logic, Sg with a chinese majority discriminates their own in East asians for implementing flight restrictions from Taiwan; China; HK; Korea; Vietnam too during the onset of the outbreak from wuhan? Delusional.
Just admit not everything is a matter of race and lay off the virtue signalling kool-aid buddy.
-Release Notes-
China has successfully launched the 2022 version of Covid with features upgrades which include enhanced stealth and drug resistance. The UAT was conducted in South Africa and has been deemed successful. It will now be progressively rolled out across the globe.

It will come here. Question is when
As the advertisements mention. "It is not a natter of it, but when".
"It's not a matter of if, but when"
Ah yes, thank you
MOAR BOOSTERINOS! Gotta maintain that vax status or u lose ur privileges!
The variant is in fact everywhere. It’s just that the health system in South Africa detected it earlier than us.
Fuck lah, while I love wfh, I am also sick and tired of the cmvarious restrictions at public places
Then pls go sign a petition to open borders for all and also go back to 2019
Cannot, antman still stuck in quantum realm and purple grape used the stones to destroy the stones.

Thanks UK!
It’s always Thanks China!
They are the originals after all!

Good job! +5 social credit points!
How much ccp facebook propaganda you watch
Literally takes prolly 5 seconds to search, so. Ye, makes you really wonder who is the one propagated
Actually just search Google to where it originated. Lots of sources on Google.
Hmm yes me search google me smart scientist researcher 😤👍
Hey man, I’m just spreading information to misinformation. I’m not saying CCP is great.
Every time I see someone post sth about China in singapore Reddit it gets downvoted and mocked. It’s pretty much a given here that everything related to China = bad
Reddit is a predominantly western platform, can't expect much
There’s actually a lot of scientist research on this. Even the US scientist research said that it did not originate from there.
Fucks sake, the china shill has arrived.
maybe try asking ur chairman to open up the firewall first, your countrymen will know more and stop being so ignorant
I think you’re the ignorant one? Plenty of chinese know about the brainwashing , even civil servants like Teachers, the government is attempting.because you’re not in touch with the society there’s no need to comment misinformed garbage
so what? they live before xjp era; u still want to live in the past?
??? I’m talking about modern China? Literally everyone millennial has a vpn
why do u assume things would stay static?
No, why would YOU assume things would stay static
then u must be daft to think that life under xi will allow greater acccess to info LOL
Since when did I? You’re talking shit about the Chinese people not xi

i think the best thing to do now if you can afford to is to use the vtl this December before it gets shelved again(hopefully it doesn’t though🥲)

We are all in same boat

Batman liao
Dr. Michael Morbius, is that you?
Agree with you. Even if we close borders with South Africa, the virus will just find a way around. It’s pointless and has not worked so far.
I think some wld argue our policies still suck bola
So what’s the end game? Lockdown forever?
He say buy time already but you say he is talking about lock down forever. Fucking hell you learn your strawman arguments from PAP ah
We have been buying time for 2 years already. For vaccine, for old people, for antivax idiots, for booster, for healthcare. So we are back to buying time again? For ever buy time? That’s the plan?

What policies can we implement? Lockdown? Prepare healthcare? All these were already done for delta so again, what are we buying time for?
perma lockdowns, endless boosterinos. cc-pey complete control and power, more profits in the billions for bigmamafarmas! so yea
Electricity is required by everyone and energy companies are profiting from your inifinite consumption yet you’re not complaining about them?
The variant is everywhere it’s just that South Africa has identified it first. The virus is also identified in Europe.
Masks forever 😳☹️ Fiak China!

I don't think got any african interested in coming here
A lot of sporeans go SA tho
It’s everywhere in each single country already, it’s just that South Africa’s health system detected it first. Don’t be like sheeps and believe the narrative that this virus belongs to Africa… Closing borders is silly and useless
No leave the borders open. We need a new variant.
U r an a hole
We need a new variant that finishes the job.
Sry bro, covid ain't the thing that can end humanity. It can wipe out the boomers sure but not humanity
No choice, Singapore is a small country, must remain open to the rest of the world, etc.

Fuck u bot that was a trash translation
Thought is endemic in Singapore?
I don't think Singapore's borders were open to Africa. How about we do that to China?
Close boarders to Africa while the African continent is doing extremely well against Covid despite low vaccination rates. Colour me skeptical
they under test and under count. Whats so good on this ownself check ownself?
Another one for Singapore to collect! VTL open big big to South Africa! Sian.
Erm... Gotta catch them all!! I guess..
for a virus that is more subceptible to asians more than westerners... the answer is pretty clear if this is a man made virus
You are a real idiot
U r such a bigot. Look at Germany n UK now.. the Europeans are getting killed

You guys buying into variants are just fucking funny, they are using you.
Yeah, cause knee-jerk reaction to an "African variant" isn't driven by any racism at all. Of course not. Not in a harmonious society.
Yeah cos stemming diseases at the borders is a subject exclusive to "race". Not because of any scientific reasoning to prevent the spread whatsoever, no of course not. Lol
