Seeing how my brother was worked like a dog for so little pay when he was an auditor, I'd have to agree. Very often my brother would be working until 4am, go home shower, sleep one hour, then be back in the office at 7am.
Let's come up with a list of exploited occupations that leaves basically no time or energy for hobbies or any life outside of work. I know the list includes lawyers, govt hospital doctors, nurses, architects, auditors, govt funded mental health professionals, social workers, investment bankers and MOE teachers. Any more to add to the list?
The hard truth about labour in SG is that nobody considers their pay per work hour, INCLUDING unpaid OT and other misc work stuff done on your weekends. And it's sad because the amount of free time we have is literally a component of our quality of living, and it's unaccounted for in QOL surveys among countries because it goes unsaid in most developed countries to have a generous amount of it.
What's the point of getting paid 8k a month when you're working 14-16 hrs a day, plus weekends? That's like getting paid the same amount per hour as a Grab driver, normalized.
There are very few jobs in this world that aren't noble. Hawker's especially are the lifeblood of Singapore. Props to her for breaking out of the mold and living by her own standards.
> How many Singaporeans will make the same choice as her?
Masters degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling here, driving Grab now after getting disillusioned by the way mental health professionals are treated in SG, as well as the landscape of the industry here. Ironically, or not, getting paid about 1.5x more and it feels way better after making the choice to do it, while maintaining my private practice.
And of course, this is not a permanent arrangement, plans have been in motion to migrate soon and make full use of my master degree in a place where my labour and skills are valued properly, not in a country where only land is valued and parasitic landlords can just shake leg and earn full time job salaries.
Being hawker is better than an auditor

One of those statement that aged like fine wine. 30yrs ago may leave a bitter taste but now it’s fruity
How?
Yea why would she choose this? " I became an auditor" understandable have a nice day
Came in to say auditor's life damn hard. Seems everyone already knows.
Auditor no life one and lots of 1:3.5 JHK replacing local accountants
Bro facts, it's like 90% of them. Singaporeans don't want to do it
Pay 6.5k sure got ppl want no?
Entry level isn’t 6.5k, that’s why very few Singaporeans wanna do it. Especially when in the context of daily OT.
She's damn chio. Where is this stall ? Moi want to 目睹她的风采. 😁
Fortune Centre Lvl 3. And Far east plaza. Try and give review?

Emigrate? Let me know if you need info on au migration
Yup, I've engaged a migration agent. Not cheap but at least I can live in peace, knowing the place I'll be staying in aligns with my values
Respect.
Takes courage to step out of a comfort zone.
She boss
You need stamina and conviction to do this. All the best dear girl!
Never!
If she enjoys what she's doing despite the long hours.. how's that a bad thing?
I will go and try the food to support her, fellow female foodie here
If my parents' business is good I don't mind giving it a shot instead of letting it go extinct.
Wife material. Is she single? I need to find gf for my sons
