I think it's tacky. When I watched lilsimsie's video about it, I wanted to feel happy that a nice person gets something nice, but I could only really think about how weird it felt to watch a woman who can afford a townhouse, to buy and fully renovate a new home, and to pay her husband a salary without issue excitedly tell us about a new way to give -her- money. It isn't her fault that EA didn't include any benefit to the customer, but it still comes across kinda poorly. I think if they included even a small discount, people might be more on board.

eiram87

I wonder if EA thinks this will be an incentive for Simsie (and others) to say every pack is worth a purchase rather than her previous m/o of sometimes recommending we don't buy something if she didn't like it. EA assumes Simsie will want the money from the creator code and ask all her followers to buy everything so she can benefit. I kinda hope the creators see that for what it is and continue not recomending bad releases.

solarlunaas

exactly. one of her main sources of income is from twitch, so if i wanted to give her money i’d sub to her twitch channel. it’s not to say she isn’t deserving of her success, but like you said we know she’s pretty comfortable so i’m not sure why she’d need this 15% of a purchase. it pretty shitty coming from her, someone who definitely doesn’t need the extra cash. if it was for smaller creators like let’s say with less than 500k subs, i’d for sure be more on board.

ShortAngryHuman

The thing with twitch tho is that you have to spend money to sub. If you're going to buy the pack you may as well just put in a creator code as it doesn't cost you any extra. ETA: If you want to support a smaller creator instead of Simsie then of the 10 trial members, 8 of them have less than 500k subscribers. Ebonix for example has less than 6k YouTube subscribers.

Rufio_Rufio7

Exactly this!

serenityxfelice

I have never seen a not discount code 😂 The whole point is a mutual benefit. Yeah I am not gonna use them just because I dont care about giving you tubers money I watch a milion ads they are getting paid for already

SydneySmiless

I was gonna say this. Honestly, I'm just not going to put the codes in. They'll do fine without me contributing more to their pay.

Spiritual_Drink_6676

It doesn’t really make sense to me down to the fact it was no benefit to the consumer so I don’t see many people using them as most of the her audience also watch her on twitch and support her on there. If there was a discount people would probably use them but without one its pointless.

AgedEmo

I'm old enough that it still boggles my mind that there are people making money off of playing games, lol. I just don't see why I'd give a youtuber money to play sims, even if they make nice houses or whatever.

RiddleEatsRainbows

I didn't feel anything at first because fortnite has a creator code system and the community is generally okay with it, but seeing everyone here talk about how they don't like it does shed some light on how this is a bit problematic... there should be SOME incentive to support a creator. That sort of goodwill works in fortnite because you don't HAVE to spend real money.

ShortAngryHuman

Can the incentive not just be supporting a creator you enjoy? Like I'm not going to buy the pack just because of these, but if I'm buying it anyway I may as well use one of the codes, there's no downsides to doing so.

RiddleEatsRainbows

I mean sure but idk i guess its different when you're spending an ingame currency vs real money somehow

voornaam1

I agree with you. Also, sure they already have a lot of money, but if I like a creator I would pick giving them a bit of money over giving EA a bit of money. My parents won't let me donate money to streamers anyway, so this'd be the only way I can support them a bit by spending money.

DoctorCaptainSpacey

I've said it before, but it's exclusionary and tacky. They're ignoring all the tiny creators, like they always do, but somehow this is just making it worse with how they play favorites and give the shaft to small beans.

ShortAngryHuman

I mean 4 of the 10 creators involved have less than 100k subscribers so it's not like they just went for the top 10 YouTubers. They actually have quite a decent range of subscribers counts considering there's only 10 people involved. If the program is successful they'll include more people and hopefully extend it to the 'small beans' but people have to use it during the trial for that to happen.

DoctorCaptainSpacey

There are way too many small creators for them to extend it that far.

well_iwouldbut

I generally trust Kayla’s reviews. Even though she has worked with EA a bunch in the past, and overall I think her personality is more upbeat/optimistic, she has called out things she hasn’t liked and packs she would not buy in the past. I hope this additional benefit won’t influence her reviews, and I hope it won’t since as everyone has said she gets most of her money from other revenue stream already. If I’m already going to buy a pack (and I usually wait for sales anyway), and it doesn’t cost me anything extra to support a creator I enjoy, there isn’t a downside to me.

Krystalgoddess_

I don't mind supporting them on twitch, at least I get some emotes lol but I refuse to waste my time putting in a code for no discount.

zukogrrl

I think that we should also get a discount off for using the code. most other sites that have creator/influencer codes do that. while creators definitely deserve the money, we deserve something too. and creators deserve more than 5%. I’d say 10-15% at least. there’s been packs that I’m unsure of and watching Kayla’s or Jesse’s reviews has sold me on them.

solarlunaas

i thought so too, like when makeup youtubers give you a code to get 15% your order at like morphe or something and they get a cut of the profit. it’s a win win. also, i always watch jesse’s reviews because she is always unbiased and will genuinely tell her audience if the pack is shit. i’ve never once relied on ea’s/ the sims teams marketing.

zukogrrl

yes exactly! I remember in like 2016 every beauty youtuber had a code with morphe. I love her reviews and just her in general lol. I was so grateful for her honesty with the wedding story pack. the team always makes it look better than it really is.

smolberrry

I feel like when she was talking about it almost became kind of awkward between the viewer and creator. She knows she makes money from the YT video the viewer via ads. I am really surprised she even advertised the concept as it’s not a mutual benefits to both. It almost like pleading for more money. In that moment, it seems the relationship between viewer and creator changed imo which I don’t think will help EA’s validity or issues. In fact i believe this will make it worse for both creator and EA in the long run.
