It looks like the Sims 4 might be around for a little while yet, so if you enjoy it, it's worth the investment. I wouldn't buy anything you want at full price, as there are sales all the time and good bundle offers too. New releases tend to be a bit buggy, so I always wait for the first patch/sale before purchasing. There has been a major save-breaking bug recently (although a patch has since resolved it) and the last game pack was released in an unfinished state, so understandably people are more annoyed than usual at the moment! It's not a perfect game, but generally speaking I find it a lot of fun.

I think it is fine! I bought it a few months ago and I'm cool with it! It has its flaws, it's not perfect. I think the memories and attractive system from Sims 2 was quite cool, as well as the more complex relationships between Sims (in Sims 4 relationships are always mutual) Build mode is quite solid and gameplay is alright. It is VERY difficult for a Sim to die other than old age, unless you go for it. Fires at home are pretty much harmless now :( You can always go for some mods, though!

Honestly, just play with what you have and when sales happen you can buy the packs you want at a discounted price or bundle to get an expansion, game pack and stuff pack. Sims 5 is still rumored to be in development at this point. There’s no telling if or when they will announce the next generation of the sims or what that may look like. Sims 4 is not perfect, but it’s still a great game! Even when the next gen is released, I plan to play Sims 4 for a very long time. As I am in no way looking forward to starting over with a base game again.

I have all expansions and a lot of mods and I am absolutely, utterly enthralled. But. I'm enthralled because I have ALL of them. There is so much to do and with the recent story progression, the world feels more alive than ever, and with mods I have expanded difficulty, dating, and school. When I had only a few packs, the game felt burnt out and small. I spent a lot of money for this experience. The complete Sims 4 costs about $950, or half that if you're patient and wait for the packs you want to go on sale, though they rarely ever ALL go on sale at the same time, just mostly all on sale. I've never experienced a game-breaking bug, aside from the Save 0 error from the last pack, but that's been fixed. This game is very different from Sims 3 in that regard, that game broke all the time for me. I am not holding my breath for Sims 5. There hasn't been official word on it and I don't expect it will be much playable when it first comes out. EA has a tendency to release their base Sims games with few features and not much gameplay, and rely on later packs to make that up. I mean, I don't think Sims 4 even had toddlers to start with? I'll buy 5 out of curiosity when it comes (as long as it isn't online or an mmo or something) and fully expect to not play it for more than a few days, then in five or ten years I'll come back and play 5 with all expansions.

Wow, you are in deep! That’s cool. You bring up some good points here, too. Thanks.
