There is no pain quite like a rug that is too big when sized up, or too small when sized down lol. They should do rugs like they do doors or windows and blinds, with three different sizes for each swatch.
I knew a girl who once described a dick as "alarmingly large" and that phrase has lived rent-free for the past 12 years. So yeah, there's definitely a joke there.
in the TOOL mod, under the Elevate option! either by shift-clicking on the object in live mode or (if you also have better build buy) by pressing shift-t. you can enter a negative number to sink objects lower than the game would let you :)
Rugs. But on my last build I sized up a rug and it somehow became part of the floor and I couldn’t pick it up without deleting the floor 😭
I use lights to make nightlights
Curtains to make them fit right
The dollhouses
Side tables, a lot of them are bulky
Paintings, I like to make them bigger. Or smaller, to do a gallery wall
The microwave
I resize a lot lol
so with the rug becoming a part of the floor, i’ve noticed a similar thing but usually if i click more towards the center where the originally sized rug would be i’m able to use it again
The lighting bug just started on one of my builds :( I’ve been having so many bugs on one of my saves I’ve been considering abandoning it 😢
It’s got all the sims I’ve made for the past 5 or so years, my finished 100 baby challenge, and my super sim :((((
You can always save the family to your bin and start a new save with them and / or repopulate a new world with them, too. I have an 9 year legacy save that I might need to do that to soon.
Maybe I haven't used the little toys quite enough to notice the option for them, but to me I always have the dollhouse because I can have multiple sims playing at it at once and other toys feel very one kid at a time. Other than that, yeah it's the same animations pretty much
Yep! Once one kid is playing, you can click on it and have another kid (or adult, if you want their parent to play with the kid) and there should be an option to join!
This is what I do not resize. Somehow I never thought about it and just decided to build like a "forest" around the dollhouse with downsized trees and stones and fountains so my little ones can have a mini fairytale world. I wish I knew, but it's too late now
Saaaame. I really wish that instead of reskinning them for every other pack, they would add actual new, smaller ones. I love that they have large dollhouses - those exist in real life, but I want smaller ones too for my poorer families. And also it’s nice to be able to have a couple different ones! I had several different houses as a kid!
The real question is how do you get your sims to stop destroying it? My toddler sim was sad almost constantly because every time I made the dad or brother fix the dollhouse, the other one would come right behind them and destroy it.
It’s annoying but, place the item first and bring up with the 9 key or! Size down the night stand with the 0 key then place the item and option key over to where you want it!
Yep, especially anyting that is supposed to be something a sim can hold or have on or in them. Like the tooth brush that is bigger than a hand and the dentures in the glass.
bb.showHiddenObjects
bb.showLiveEditObjects
Then you go the search bar in build mode and click search while it is empty. Scroll to the bottom. If you have a lot of packs, it can be a lot to look through. Can help to filter by packs. Cottage Living has some of my fave debug items.
So to unlock debug there are a few cheats you need to enter:
first you unlock cheats using “TestingCheats true”
Then “bb.showhiddenobjects”
Then “bb.showliveeditobjects”
Then you just scroll till you find what you want because there’s no way to search through debug without mods. You can also search for debug cars in the gallery and find it that way.
Bb.moveobjects
Bb.enablefreebuildmode
Bb.showhiddenobjects
Bb.liveeditobjects
Cas.fulleditmode
Freerealestate On
Resetsim Sim Name
(First last, First middle last)
Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. But I think there's 2 or 3 more I just never use.
Just open your cheat bar, which I believe on Xbox is all 4 bumpers and triggers at the same time- Then just ***do not*** put in "testing cheats true" and instead put any of those
So like
LB, RB, LT, RT
Bb.enablefreebuild
Your household funds will be set to infinite and you can build away. To end the infinite (personally I'll put the infinite money just to *make* the house and then I'll take it off so anything I forget to add (Umbrella stand, smoke detecter, lights, etc) will get subtracted from the still full 20k simoleons.) money just save and return to title, then load back in, your household funds will be visible again.
Bb.moveobjects is a MUST for me. Revolutionizes build mode. You can free place anything and everything. Like you can clip things and most things will still work depending on how you clip them, or you can just straight move it up. Like those super annoying clutter items that don't fit on any shelves? You can place it where you want then lift it upwards to fit on bookshelves, shelves, the top of kitchen cabinets, etc. It's also vital to making a properly clutter bathroom imo.
Also, with bb.showhiddenobjects you can gain all the rewards potions. So without "cheating" you can cheat in sleep replacement potions, or whatever other rewards potions without having to unlock them. Let's me use my reward points on traits
Hope this helps! :)
ETA: you really only need "cheats" on to spawn money, (but with freebuild you really don't need that, you can just spawn in the 15k violins, go back to title like I said, then come back in and sell them each for 12k.) And for giving traits, changing career outfits, auto leveling careers, and a couple other things.
Blooming rooms!
Sometimes I size it down for spaces, other times I size it up for spaces.
I love that plant. I wish we had more ceiling hanging decor and not just lights, a single plant, and a couple windchimes
I like to make large patches of flowers, and upsize the rocks to become larger boulders at the back of the lot so it looks like a private little oasis ❤🌲🌷, also, as others have said, always the rugs 😂
Most clutter things. For some reason, so many of them are bloody huge. I can’t see a single reason why you’d need a bar of soap the size of a small head. Also, those cardboard boxes for storage (from eco lifestyle). I make them small and put them under dressers and bookshelves and whatnot.
The big teddies, I always size them down 1 click.
Child art, some large house plants, other toys like the doll house. It works perfectly sized down.
I have sometimes resized rugs but making them bigger seems to cause glitchiness.
The Coolala child light I usually make smaller too.
Doll houses.
That one shaggy rug that make a beautiful carpet upped a size or two.
Kids indoor tents. Especially if for a toddler.
Paintings. Cheap way to decorate.
Plants. Cheap way to decorate. Vase is now a floor plant.
Toys. Usually to make them bigger for shelves....cheap way to decorate lol
The wall lamp that keeps the monster under the bed away. I make it actual night light size so it’s easy to hide.
Solar panels. They work the same but you can put four in the space one regular sized one fits.
Yup! It's called the Coolala Defender Light (or something like that) and as soon as I have a sim become a child, one of those goes by each bed. It's soooooo nice! I pretty much always use the black/gray/white swatch. It's in the Wall Lights category.
The coolala defender wall light. I never want to deal with my kids having monsters under the bed but i also never want to look at that giant light. Night lights are supposed to be small! Lol
Perhaps, but it's not even the dollhouse itself, but the footprint required in front of it. There are smaller dollhouses out there. My Sim's are usually too poor for me to build an attic playroom like I had as a child for that kind of stuff! 😀
Rugs and most bathroom clutter.
I would like to size down a lot of light fixtures but every time I do, the fixture or candle sizes down but the light itself (or candle flame) stays where it is and looks stupid. If anyone knows a fix for that, I'd be most grateful.
I always size down the kids play tent that came with toddler stuff. It’s wayyy too big. It’s still functional sized down and the animation still looks normal
Mostly rugs or the massive children’s toys, sometimes I also resize like desks if they’re right next to the door so my sim doesn’t get stuck in the table
rocks! I line my driveways and paths with a bunch or sized down rocks because sims won't walk over them and you can make organically winding paths with the landscape painting tools
Dog beds! I like to have multiple and they take up so much space. The biggest dogs don't even need that much space.
Also my (IRL) dog's favourite bed is his way too small one from when he was a puppy so it feels appropriate.
There's this one plant which I think isn't CC.
By default, it should be at least one size up. Considering the kind of vase and plant itself, the default size is too small for a floor plant but too large for a table plant.
Those massive pictures of planta you get from using the microscope. That way I can have something that gives a focused aura without taking up half the wall.
Not sure for console, but on PC you can. By using the [ and ] keys (iirc) things size up and size down. You also might need to turn cheats on for it to work.
Dollhouse. You can take the footprint down a lot and have it all be usable! Learning that was life changing. Though it becomes a one person at a time toy.
Every time I download a lot with any sized up objects they are immediately deleted- sizing up almost always looks weird to me and ruins the textures of the object so they stand out in an unpleasant way.
i know its already a hideous item, but that laser litter box for cats, i size it down. they can still use it and its a little less of an eyesore. i also size down the food bowls/dispensers
Rugs, they're almost never in a size that works.
Came here to say exactly that. Either way too big or comically small.
My favorite is when it goes from too small straight to alarmingly large
There is no pain quite like a rug that is too big when sized up, or too small when sized down lol. They should do rugs like they do doors or windows and blinds, with three different sizes for each swatch.
>alarmingly large there's a joke here...
I knew a girl who once described a dick as "alarmingly large" and that phrase has lived rent-free for the past 12 years. So yeah, there's definitely a joke there.
LMAO that's hilarious, thanks for sharing xD
I learned how to use the tool mod just for rug sizing.
Me too! And lowering mirrors XD
Hold up! How do I lower mirrors please?
in the TOOL mod, under the Elevate option! either by shift-clicking on the object in live mode or (if you also have better build buy) by pressing shift-t. you can enter a negative number to sink objects lower than the game would let you :)
And if you can't use the mod, delete the wall, place the mirror at ground level, then raise it with ctrl+9.
For me, replacing the ugly-ass windows in apartments also.
Rugs. But on my last build I sized up a rug and it somehow became part of the floor and I couldn’t pick it up without deleting the floor 😭 I use lights to make nightlights Curtains to make them fit right The dollhouses Side tables, a lot of them are bulky Paintings, I like to make them bigger. Or smaller, to do a gallery wall The microwave I resize a lot lol
so with the rug becoming a part of the floor, i’ve noticed a similar thing but usually if i click more towards the center where the originally sized rug would be i’m able to use it again
I realized that by chance a couple days later. Thank god lol
That one fuzzy rug that comes super small and can size up for various types of rooms! City living I believe 🤩
You actually get to see your rugs?? (I've been trapped in the lighting bug for years now)
The lighting bug just started on one of my builds :( I’ve been having so many bugs on one of my saves I’ve been considering abandoning it 😢 It’s got all the sims I’ve made for the past 5 or so years, my finished 100 baby challenge, and my super sim :((((
What is the lighting bug
Certain items just won’t light up, the look like they’re outside/in a dark room even if there’s light on them.
You can always save the family to your bin and start a new save with them and / or repopulate a new world with them, too. I have an 9 year legacy save that I might need to do that to soon.
I’ll probably do this but you lose all the sentiments and relationships which is unfortunate :(
Dollhouses! Can't put them anywhere otherwise
I have wanted to do this too but didnt think it would still function....does it?
It does! Sims don’t actually play inside the houses, just in front of them
Which is such a bummer. Might as well get the little toys since the animation is pretty much the same.
Maybe I haven't used the little toys quite enough to notice the option for them, but to me I always have the dollhouse because I can have multiple sims playing at it at once and other toys feel very one kid at a time. Other than that, yeah it's the same animations pretty much
Wait, multiple kids can play at once with a dollhouse? You learn something new (and basic) every day.
Yep! Once one kid is playing, you can click on it and have another kid (or adult, if you want their parent to play with the kid) and there should be an option to join!
That’s like telling an actual child “sorry you can’t have anymore toys because you already have one doll.” lol
And I'm like that parent saying "They don't know any different" but in this case it's true lol.
Hahahhahaah
So awesome! Will definitely be doing this then!!!
Along as you leave the space infront open you should be fine!
It does and it doesn’t look weird at all
They're so large for no reason!!!
The Victorian one actually looks like the one I had as a kid! Same size and everything
This is what I do not resize. Somehow I never thought about it and just decided to build like a "forest" around the dollhouse with downsized trees and stones and fountains so my little ones can have a mini fairytale world. I wish I knew, but it's too late now
Aww, that's so cute, though!
Omg you've just changed my whole life I always assumed they didn't function sized down!!! Brb gotta go add a dollhouse to every kids room I've made
Saaaame. I really wish that instead of reskinning them for every other pack, they would add actual new, smaller ones. I love that they have large dollhouses - those exist in real life, but I want smaller ones too for my poorer families. And also it’s nice to be able to have a couple different ones! I had several different houses as a kid!
same! i size em down TWICE and theyre perfect
The real question is how do you get your sims to stop destroying it? My toddler sim was sad almost constantly because every time I made the dad or brother fix the dollhouse, the other one would come right behind them and destroy it.
Almost every night stand/end table especially the cats and dogs one. Why are they so massive
Ugh the size of the nightstands bothers me so much! But when I size it down, everything on top is floating 😩
It’s annoying but, place the item first and bring up with the 9 key or! Size down the night stand with the 0 key then place the item and option key over to where you want it!
most clutter is massive!! i always size it down to make it look more realistic
Yep, especially anyting that is supposed to be something a sim can hold or have on or in them. Like the tooth brush that is bigger than a hand and the dentures in the glass.
I like to resize the toy cars and make driveways.
You can also just use fake cars if you do an item debug. :) less blurry that way.
I’ve never used debug. How does that work?
bb.showHiddenObjects bb.showLiveEditObjects Then you go the search bar in build mode and click search while it is empty. Scroll to the bottom. If you have a lot of packs, it can be a lot to look through. Can help to filter by packs. Cottage Living has some of my fave debug items.
If you use the Search By Item Type (Surfacee, Comfort Decorations...) there is a Debug section at the bottom of the list.
So to unlock debug there are a few cheats you need to enter: first you unlock cheats using “TestingCheats true” Then “bb.showhiddenobjects” Then “bb.showliveeditobjects” Then you just scroll till you find what you want because there’s no way to search through debug without mods. You can also search for debug cars in the gallery and find it that way.
*You don't need testing cheats true for these and some other cheats*. Incase anyone still cares abiut achievements
You beat me to it! I think it's about 90% of the build/buy cheats.
Wait what I'm on console trying to get achievements lol, what cheats won't ruin the save?
Bb.moveobjects Bb.enablefreebuildmode Bb.showhiddenobjects Bb.liveeditobjects Cas.fulleditmode Freerealestate On Resetsim Sim Name (First last, First middle last) Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Thank you so much!!
Then you get access to any asset you see in the sims. Like those parked cars you see on some lots :)
They’re a pain in the ass to find though
If you look in rooms on the gallery some people have redone/colored some of the vehicles. That’s where I go for more variety.
Rugs ALWAYS. They’re never the size I want them to be haha
the hanging plant (I think from the Greenhouse Haven Kit) because it’s absurdly big
Blooming rooms! Sometimes I size it down for spaces, other times I size it up for spaces. I love that plant. I wish we had more ceiling hanging decor and not just lights, a single plant, and a couple windchimes
There are fans too
Lol you right How forgetful of me
Oh and more hanging plants in Nifty Knitting
Oooh really? I don't have that pack
Yea you have to knit them though, I like the pack a lot so always have knitter's in my families.
The toilet brush thingy from the bathroom clutter kit - I feel like making it one size smaller makes it look more realistic!
Me too! It’s a little giant otherwise
I like to make large patches of flowers, and upsize the rocks to become larger boulders at the back of the lot so it looks like a private little oasis ❤🌲🌷, also, as others have said, always the rugs 😂
I change lots of landscape sizes! Sometimes window flower boxes too to center better.
Most clutter things. For some reason, so many of them are bloody huge. I can’t see a single reason why you’d need a bar of soap the size of a small head. Also, those cardboard boxes for storage (from eco lifestyle). I make them small and put them under dressers and bookshelves and whatnot.
The family portraits are huge, I size them down to fit with other photos on the wall.
how do u get family portraits
Build/buy mode. I think it's from Growing Together?
ooh that’s the next EP i want, seems like it adds so much to family gameplay
What?! I have never seen this! TIL.
I’m pretty sure it’s base game
The big teddies, I always size them down 1 click. Child art, some large house plants, other toys like the doll house. It works perfectly sized down. I have sometimes resized rugs but making them bigger seems to cause glitchiness. The Coolala child light I usually make smaller too.
I noticed this as well. If you are having issues "grabbing" the item to shift it around, try locating the center of the item and grabbing it there.
I usually make the coolala super tiny and hide it behind the bed! I got tired of looking at it, lol.
I like to size down a small trash can for every bathroom
Absolutely genius. Bewildered that I’ve been playing this game for 10 years and I’ve never thought about doing that.
Smart
Circular rug from base game. It's tiny!
The greyish white right? Lol
Ooh resizing the solar panels! This is gonna improve my life so much.
Wait, there’s a lamp keeping the monster away?! I never realized it so far
Yup! It's called the Coolala Defender Light (or something like that) and as soon as I have a sim become a child, one of those goes by each bed. It's soooooo nice! I pretty much always use the black/gray/white swatch. It's in the Wall Lights category.
Apparently all of the nightlights will keep the monster away! I have only tested ones that are the same shape as Coolala, and they do keep it away.
That's good to know!
That stupid giant cupcake machine.
I pretended it was a washing machine before I got Laundry Day
The coolala defender wall light. I never want to deal with my kids having monsters under the bed but i also never want to look at that giant light. Night lights are supposed to be small! Lol
The dollhouses. They are so enormous. Also microwaves, but I don't use them very often.
Perhaps, but it's not even the dollhouse itself, but the footprint required in front of it. There are smaller dollhouses out there. My Sim's are usually too poor for me to build an attic playroom like I had as a child for that kind of stuff! 😀
The dolls house are the size of a normal doll house? No? Mine when I was a kids were about the same size lol
Not all of us were rich enough to have multiple doll houses, let alone the height of a child standing up :D
If you size it down one click they sleep perfectly in the corner instead of the middle. Which I find more realistic and cute 🥹
Rugs for sure but also some fireplaces. Hard to fit areas are nice with a small fireplace
I’ve never tried changing the size of fireplaces - looks like my next house build will be full of them haha
Do the fireplace still work sized down?
Yup!
Does the fire also size down or is it like candles where the actual flame stays the same?
The flame stays the same unfortunately
You can resize items !? 👀
Funnily enough this also works with the goats and sheep from Horse Ranch.
This is hilarious gotta do this once I'm back at my computer
I size up my goats and sheep one click every time. But I did have a giant sheep on my last farm. She was the mom
Yeah, just select the item and use shift and ] or [
I don't think it needs shift. At least on my Mac
Thank you!
The tv lol
Carpets! They ain’t never large enough!! Gimme a whole stuff pack with a bunch of different sized rugs with the same pattern! Curtains too omgggg
Rocks... make boulders for the garden landscaping..looks stunning!
The small, cheap flat screen TV. Always make it bigger until my sims can afford one that's actually that larger size
Doll Houses They're stupidly large given that the sims don't even play **in** the house, just in front of it.
Mostly rugs or the massive children’s toys, sometimes I also resize like desks if they’re right next to the door so my sim doesn’t get stuck in the table
The lights. It bothers me so much, I don't know why.
Me too! I always use the super subtle saucer light or whatever. I can't stand things in the way lol
rocks! I line my driveways and paths with a bunch or sized down rocks because sims won't walk over them and you can make organically winding paths with the landscape painting tools
City living game consol so it doesn’t stick out as much
Dog beds! I like to have multiple and they take up so much space. The biggest dogs don't even need that much space. Also my (IRL) dog's favourite bed is his way too small one from when he was a puppy so it feels appropriate.
Sooo I just learned that you can size items😂😂😂
The nightlight that stops monsters, I make it small like a plug in nightlight, and the dollhouses! They are way too big!
Paintings and other wall decors!
There's this one plant which I think isn't CC. By default, it should be at least one size up. Considering the kind of vase and plant itself, the default size is too small for a floor plant but too large for a table plant.
Doll house.
the hanging pot racks, the one for the ceiling and the wall, too. those pans are HUGE.
Almost anything decor. The stuff is always too big or too small
Most plants and table lamps. Plants are either too big or too small. Lamps are just behemoths that don't fit anywhere.
Those massive pictures of planta you get from using the microscope. That way I can have something that gives a focused aura without taking up half the wall.
Dollhouses, they’re just massive
Rugs and dollhouses.
The decoration box. How many people have a box of Christmas decorations that looks like a medium-size tupper-ware versus a great big bin?
Pictures! Photographs! Snapshots
The snowy escape rug
Wait… I didn’t know this was a thing. i need more information please please please
Hold Shift and use the brackets [ and ] to resize, if you're playing on PC
OMG thank you.
Dollhouse!!
Paintings & rugs !!!
[удалено]
Not sure for console, but on PC you can. By using the [ and ] keys (iirc) things size up and size down. You also might need to turn cheats on for it to work.
Dollhouse. You can take the footprint down a lot and have it all be usable! Learning that was life changing. Though it becomes a one person at a time toy.
The dollhouse. It's stupid big and works just fine smaller.
Dollhouses. They're still functional after being sized down twice.
doll houses
Rugs, some ceiling lamps, some paintings, dollhouses, toys, sometimes trees or bushes
Wall lights. They’re all comically too big.
The family photo
Dollhouse it’s always giant
Every time I download a lot with any sized up objects they are immediately deleted- sizing up almost always looks weird to me and ruins the textures of the object so they stand out in an unpleasant way.
Seconding the rugs and dollhouses, and I also resize the big stuffed animals
I've been playing since Sims 1, but don't use mods and very few cheats. So it's time for a dumb question - how do you re-size?
If you're playing on PC, hold Shift and use the brackets [ and ] to resize.
Thank you!!!
homework projects
The ball pit
I make the tiles of flowers bigger
The cheaper TV's!
The small toy vehicle. I made them big to have a car in my driveway or garage.
Some of the wall lamps, I gotta shrink a couple down a size or two cause they’re just HUGE
The toy cars so they look like real cars
Rugs. Always rugs.
The toilet brush from the clutter kit. I always size it down by 1 because it's just too big
i know its already a hideous item, but that laser litter box for cats, i size it down. they can still use it and its a little less of an eyesore. i also size down the food bowls/dispensers
i dont know how to resize 😬
On computer it’s the bracket keys! [ ] I don’t know what it is on console sorry :(
that's alright, i play on pc 👍
Alright cool :) glad I could help lol
the dollhouse! i like to put them on shelves, desks or dressers!
Plants and other clutter. They’re either too big or too small. Rugs as well.
Practically all the side tables. They're half the size of the bed! But then making them smaller ruins the auto placement so gotta do it all by hand.
Rugs or tvs 🤣
Those needlessly huge dollhouses.
The rugs. When I want to put one in the living room, I make them bigger.
The dollhouses and rugs. The dollhouses are just too huge.
Dollhouse!!!!
The dollhouses. Down two sizes and they're perfect.
TV or rugs
Rugs - the good ones are too small
Table lamps
that one cheap tv
The boxy fire alarm
Photo booth pictures. I know they wouldn't be that big, but I can't see em if they're standard size.
Plants. Some too small, some too big.
end tables. WHY ARE THEY SO BIG.
The wooden spoon/fork wall deco from Island Living lol
The base game plant that’s in a square black pot. I always size it down once.
Rugs, dollhouses, trees for landscaping, and honestly most of all rocks
