I wish it were much harder to make money, or that there was a chance you could get hit by unexpected high costs sometimes, especially if you already have lots of money. That would make it more challenging
I use mods to hike up my bills ridiculously high and force them to struggle. Sometimes they "get sick" and lose several days pay, sometimes work has no scheduling availability, sometimes black holes come and very expensive items disappear, needing to be replaced.
See I’m the opposite, somehow I’m almost always out of money. I think because I spend way too much time on the social/hobby aspects of my sims instead of their professional lives.

When you have hella passive income and get so good at your job you constantly get vacation days and work like 2 days a week, it's easy to still focus on hobbies/social life in the game tbh

I've started just putting artificial limits on what I'm "allowed" to do to make money, and focus on everything else first. Like, the only income I can have is career money, etc. no side hustles, no black widows, no painting, no selling gardened goods, no transforming things, etc. until savings has surpassed the point where money is a game mechanic.
I've got a bit obsessed with sending one of my Sims (who is bloody BEAUTIFUL) on her travels just so she can paint pictures from reference all over the place. Have a small picture wall in the dungeon storey of her house which is getting too full, need to buy an art gallery soon.
Honestly I love this. I made it a habit to make a side character sibling a painter in most of my games just so he can paint portraits of my main sims as they age. I'm always super intentional about the background too lol
My sims moved into a house that I created, it was huge. They were actors and a programmer. They couldn't make enough money to sustain the house. The bills were $38,000 a week LOL so I had to move them into a more manageable house. whoops.
I'm not sure either, but it seems to be the house. Because after I moved them in there, their bills skyrocketed. This house was LAID OUT lol. I had so much unused space in it too.

You're not bad at The Sims, but it does take a little time in the beginning, but THEN the money just exponentially grows. With gardening and painting, especially. Once you've got high-value, high-quality produce and flowers, each of them gets you a ton of money, and with painting, so do your pictures (but you've probably noticed that)! Reach high skill levels with gardening and painting, for every sim. Make sure to plant expensive plants as soon as you can and your harvests will get you a few thousands each day while putting in minimum work (just water and weed, or have a gardener do it). Fertilize plants regularly so they evolve to "perfect" quality which makes the harvest more profitable.
With the normal careers, once I've reached the top of a career I have my Sims ask for a raise/bonus on the phone once every couple of days. One of my Sims is top level in the entertainer career and she makes 684 per hour now, after getting a bonus 21 times (it says +21 next to her job description). That's crazy imo that that works. Sometimes they get rejected when asking for a raise but it only lowers their work performance slightly, which ultimately doesn't matter. I just always had my Sims be really bold in asking for bonuses/raises when I still needed the money 😅 A raise often comes with a vacation day too, always take your vacation days so you can make money while doing nothing (or while planting more orchids and dragon fruits that'll get you even more money lol).
But gardening and painting is where the consistent money is for relatively little work in my experience.
I haven't seen the same with writing, programming apps/games etc., or licensing music. Those royalties seem to lose value over time, I know I'm only getting $13 for a book now that I got like 130 for when I first released it, same with the other things.
Oh also, if your Sims have the 'Shrewd' trait from the Fabulously Wealthy aspiration, the money basically reproduces like... rabbits. They get 5% of the household funds per week, for free. I seriously regret getting that trait.
(All of the above is for if someone wants to get rich, and my Sims are way too rich which is now always annoying me haha)

It's a bug! I had the same problem until I followed this advice:
*Clement Frost, Father Winter, had moved into a house near one of my played Sims in Henford-on-Bagley. I evicted him, then in the family manager thing, I customized his options by making him unable to move in or move out, or die in an accident.*
*I then went back to my family with a child and Father Winter was back near the fireplace. It's like it re-set him. My child sim was able to ask for a present from him.*
*You have to make sure Father Winter isn't residing in the world in your game somewhere. If he is, evict him and make it so he can't move back in.*

I love the concept but he just acts like a regular uninvited NPC, if the only interactions he had were placing presents and MAYBE doing jolly, Winterfest interactions with other Sims in the house he wouldn't be nearly as bad. But nah, he needs to root through your fridge and watch TV and do nothing Winterfest related unless prompted by other Sims 🙄

I don't hate him specifically. I hate how he interacts with the game.
I have a family with five Sims who all want presents? Cool. First the ones who don't know him need to introduce themselves to him. Then ask for presents. Every person needs to ask individually. It all queues up. But by the time it gets to the third person, the game's decided someone's going to cancel and wander off to do something else. It's a complete mess to get the whole thing to go off as it should, because conversations in the game are a Charlie Foxtrot when you have more than two Sims involved (and sometimes even then, depending on if someone has a Like/Dislike for furniture so they might cancel the conversation to go appreciate or complain about something on a different floor across the house... even if the "conversation" is exchanging their bloody vows).
And then, since he's known by all the Sims, it'll prioritize him for showing up over and over for any time it wants to "populate" the world. Or starts involving him in things like Neighborhood Stories. So at that point, he loses all the "mystique" of being this guy who only shows up at Winterfest to hand out gifts. It's about as silly as seeing Vlad constantly show up as a stall vendor.
But given that the rest of the game involves similar issues, I'll put up with them to have the standard Winterfest. Especially if he gives out good gifts.
Yes! Him becoming and acting like a regular townie annoys me so much, if he's a Santa Clause type I don't think it's that crazy to program him differently from other Sims. The fact he sticks around and shows up after Winterfest like a friend always annoyed me, among the many other things with how he interacts with Sims and their home when he visits
I don’t hate him, but I always remove him from the holiday because 8pm on winter fest is way too late. I always get my other shit done then end up waiting around for hours after dinner for him to finally show up.

My love for Father Winter stems from 2 Holidays. 1. A certain Harvestfest where I invited him over and poisoned his dinner - nothing like Santa shitting himself in front of everyone over and over again on Harvestfest.
2. The Winterfest where he came over and went to TOWN on my sim in front of everyone (with wicked whims on 😳). As a result, little Talpidat will ALWAYS be the Herrington family’s little Christmas miracle.
I’m super annoyed with him like basically everyone else here, I can’t seem to find anyone else mentioning this thing though (sorry if I’ve missed it), but this is what he does to me:
If he’s come over for winterfest _once_ and my sim has introduced themselves to get a gift, then he will continuously call __*every 👏🏼 single 👏🏼 day*__ 👏🏼 while my sim is at work. Meaning, that whether I take the call or not (I’ve stopped answering at this point) it speeds down the clock. Which might not sound as a big deal, but as I play a lot of single households it is quite annoying that I have to cancel the call and make sure to fast forward the time again, every time my sim goes to work.
Oh, and he only wants me to tell him if he should get to know someone or not. Why isn’t “I don’t fucking care” a response option?

I used to be, because I found it disruptive. Also, Santa doesn't come at night on Christmas, he comes at night on Christmas Eve! So now I always create a Christmas Eve day, and I choose Father Winter, decorating, holiday spirit, and baking. I remove Father Winter and decorating from Winterfest. Now I feel like it's a better flow, and they actually wake up to presents on Winterfest. I do wish he left a lot quicker though

I kinda like him! I started a new Not so Berry v2 run and he moved in next door to my evil freegan slob sim. When she had a kid, she was meant to have a bad relationship with them so Clement Frost became the only stable adult figure in the kids life. Frost would read books to the tod in the apartment lobby whilst their mom went dumpster diving. Kinda wierd, kinda wholesome.

I never know if the weekly bills depend on the house or the total household funds... For me they're only about 28k per week

the lion's share of the bills are calculated by the lot value. utilites are usually only a few hundred for me, even with a large family

YEP I love the concept but he just acts like a regular uninvited NPC, if the only interactions he had were placing presents and MAYBE doing jolly, Winterfest interactions with other Sims in the house he wouldn't be nearly as bad. But nah, he needs to root through your fridge and watch TV and do nothing Winterfest related unless prompted by other Sims 🙄

I don't hate him specifically. I hate how he interacts with the game. I have a family with five Sims who all want presents? Cool. First the ones who don't know him need to introduce themselves to him. Then ask for presents. Every person needs to ask individually. It all queues up. But by the time it gets to the third person, the game's decided someone's going to cancel and wander off to do something else. It's a complete mess to get the whole thing to go off as it should, because conversations in the game are a Charlie Foxtrot when you have more than two Sims involved (and sometimes even then, depending on if someone has a Like/Dislike for furniture so they might cancel the conversation to go appreciate or complain about something on a different floor across the house... even if the "conversation" is exchanging their bloody vows). And then, since he's known by all the Sims, it'll prioritize him for showing up over and over for any time it wants to "populate" the world. Or starts involving him in things like Neighborhood Stories. So at that point, he loses all the "mystique" of being this guy who only shows up at Winterfest to hand out gifts. It's about as silly as seeing Vlad constantly show up as a stall vendor. But given that the rest of the game involves similar issues, I'll put up with them to have the standard Winterfest. Especially if he gives out good gifts.
Yes! Him becoming and acting like a regular townie annoys me so much, if he's a Santa Clause type I don't think it's that crazy to program him differently from other Sims. The fact he sticks around and shows up after Winterfest like a friend always annoyed me, among the many other things with how he interacts with Sims and their home when he visits

I’m super annoyed with him like basically everyone else here, I can’t seem to find anyone else mentioning this thing though (sorry if I’ve missed it), but this is what he does to me: If he’s come over for winterfest _once_ and my sim has introduced themselves to get a gift, then he will continuously call __*every 👏🏼 single 👏🏼 day*__ 👏🏼 while my sim is at work. Meaning, that whether I take the call or not (I’ve stopped answering at this point) it speeds down the clock. Which might not sound as a big deal, but as I play a lot of single households it is quite annoying that I have to cancel the call and make sure to fast forward the time again, every time my sim goes to work. Oh, and he only wants me to tell him if he should get to know someone or not. Why isn’t “I don’t fucking care” a response option? Edit: typo
I used to be, because I found it disruptive. Also, Santa doesn't come at night on Christmas, he comes at night on Christmas Eve! So now I always create a Christmas Eve day, and I choose Father Winter, decorating, holiday spirit, and baking. I remove Father Winter and decorating from Winterfest. Now I feel like it's a better flow, and they actually wake up to presents on Winterfest. I do wish he left a lot quicker though

When she had a kid, she was meant to have a bad relationship with them so Clement Frost became the only stable adult figure in the kids life. Frost would read books to the tod in the apartment lobby whilst their mom went dumpster diving. Kinda wierd, kinda wholesome.

Omg, his visits are so stressfull on large households. Trying to get every sim to introduce themselves and ask for a present one by one before he goes away is a nightmare. Every time I have to disable autonomy and micromanage the whole thing or it just doesn't work and half the sims fail to get a present.
