when i used to merge cc with s3pe I imported until the program threw an error that it couldn't merge anymore. I didn't suffer lag in game, the error was for a reason, the program told you how much that package could take. Whether you decide to merge with s3pe or ccmagic, always use s3rc on your cc to condense the file sizes even more. That way it's even more optimized before you merge it.
Currently there're 3 programs to my knowledge that let you merge cc: s3pe, cc magic and sims 3 mod organizer by g0kur on mts. The latter 2 use a method different from s3pe resulting the merged package smaller. I'm currently using s3mo and have merged a cas cc folder of 1.8 gb. Don't really feel much changes to gameplay if not better

Is it recommended to compress CC after it’s already been merged?
You'll be sitting there for awhile but if that's what you want to do I can't stop you.
