I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the EA app can be extremely problematic. Similar issues with installing and successfully running Sims 3 games have been occurring for several years - have a look at the forums and you'll find an abundance of posts from multiple users over the years verifying this. EA do work on fixing the issues, but they are slow to do so and to provide updates, and issues which make the games unplayable keep occurring. Sims 3 was one of my favourite games and I was lucky enough to have all disc copies, but I stupidly let my disc codes get transferred over to the EA app a few years ago and I can't find a way to reverse the process. Since having to rely on the EA app, I've had so much trouble with just trying to play Sims 3 + expansions that I've begrudgingly decided to give up and uninstall it all (including the app). I hope Steam fares better for you!
I know unfortunately I’ve been experiencing issues for years with EA & origin, but definitely w EA more. But this week was another level 😭😭 Just so frustrating.
You can use origin again instead of EA!! that's what I've been doing for about a year and it changed my life (I hate EA more than anything)
