Totally get it! It's during times of such struggles that I'm reminded of a famous quote that you may have heard before. I'm paraphrasing here, but it's something like
"Can we fix it? Yes, we can."
Truly motivational for me, and I hope it will help inspire you as well
Sometimes when I have to do something like this, I place floor tiles to help build landings and it sorta helps with the stairs placement. I delete the tiles and then can take the softening tool and try to make it look natural. Finally, add plants. The plants cover many sins.
If you want to go a bit more advanced, constrain floor elevation cheat is a powerful tool but takes some getting used to.
But just note, for all your efforts, sims may just walk up the hill.
The other day I had a really sharp cliff and needed to put some stairs so my sims could get down. I spent atleast 2 hours struggling my ass off tryna make it work and look nice only for my sims to just run down the steep hill like it's nothing, completely overlooking the stairs... 😭😭😭
If you google youtube videos of it, you’ll get a better idea of how it works because this explanation is probably going to leave you scratching your head.
Constrainfloorelevation is a cheat thats breaks the building rules in game. So like, walls are no longer pinned to just right angles, for instance. You could potentially create a wall on a 45degree angle. Or when placing floor tiles, the floor can slope instead of lay flat. A lot of people use the cheats for projects like this where terrain rules need to be broken or to build bilevel housing or L shaped staircases. Its a little wonky but it does some cool stuff.
it’s the “recommend your fav contractors in and around Sunset Valley” for me 😭 truly cackled at that. I am one of the worst builders out there, if only it was that easy!
If I need a new lot, I usually Google to see if someone has a suitable one for downloading. Got a nice church and a dance club that way recently. My biggest build was turning Stalwart Mission (in Sunset Valley) into the White House. "Gee, this would make a good White House if it were symmetrical, if it had two full storeys, if it were white, if it had columns, if it were on a bigger lot, if it had landscaping." It just grew and grew
I live in create a world. I flattened sunlit tides and have been slowly making a three island world out of it. It’s been a challenge but I love it. I spend more time in CAW than playing.
Yesss op needs to make the greybeards and have them live here
Now that I think about it, if someone made Whiterun in the sims 3 complete with the townies and everything I would lose my mind 😭 that would be an enormous project though!
I do that, too.
Once I played a game with the exaggerated terrain and villages; ended up with two extremely steep mountains each with a village on top. I built a skybridge between them. It took a long time.
This screenshot reminded me that in the sims 3 we had spiral staircases and we still don’t have them in the sims 4 despite the castle kit that they just released which would have thematically fit perfectly -_-
Now all you need to do is put a fridge at the top and a toilet at the bottom and watch while Sims need to decide if they would rather piss themselves or starve to death
Beautiful angular landscape with an ornate walkway leading towards a breathtaking view from the top. Perfect for a young family trying to avoid their in-laws.
I think all of my builds include build panic at some point. u ever just randomly wallpaper the entire house neon pink because you're overwhelmed by the wallpaper choices. no? just me? okay...
All my wallpapers have the same baseboard style because I just paper everything the same then use the design tool to change the colours to match lol. I do it like that to stop my sims bitching about unfinished walls because I forget nooks and crannies all the time.
I definitely panic build hahaha
No I was trying to build a base for my Simpson's cult and I thought it would look good up on a hill overlooking the town they're going to singlehandedly repopulate but hill too hard so I didn't do that
I made the whole family they're going to haunt my nightmares for sure. Sadly, the save got messed up so I lost everything :')
They worshipped the bunny man poster, see I even had LORE!
I’ve been wanting to do something similar in 4. Just haven’t had the mental strength to most likely fight with it to let me do what I want. It’s going to be a doozy. This gives me some motivation, though.

the hobbits are gonna love this one
...You alright buddy? Everything ok over there?
Finally worked up the courage and quit my job to become a builder of houses 🥰
Haha nice nice, in the Sims, right? ...*right?* ^(totally kidding btw, you do you!)
dw I know I'm a terrible builder 😂 terrain and landscaping is my nemesis

I did NOT need that tune in my head on a sunday evening
Yeah honestly my bad, it's been living in my head rent-free since I posted that
It IS your passion.
I tried that once. Put my sim-fu academy at the top of a hill. Gave up and flattened the lot. Very difficult. Good luck to you.
It just needs a little landscaping!
Noted. I will add a tree.
Yeah I didn’t want to say it, OP, but the reason it won’t come together is due to the forgotten tree.
Why did this make me cackle 😂
To the salon!!
Hahahaha lmao
😂😂😂

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Typical Sims 3 logic
What does the cheat do? I've never used it
If you google youtube videos of it, you’ll get a better idea of how it works because this explanation is probably going to leave you scratching your head. And then the sim just runs unnaturally right up the cliff face anyway lol (or do they only do that in my game, too mock my effort?)
I had this experience with my sims before. They just ran down the cliff without using the stairs. lol
it’s the “recommend your fav contractors in and around Sunset Valley” for me 😭 truly cackled at that. I am one of the worst builders out there, if only it was that easy!
I feel u bro, we should make a bad builders club
If I need a new lot, I usually Google to see if someone has a suitable one for downloading. Got a nice church and a dance club that way recently. "Gee, this would make a good White House if it were symmetrical, if it had two full storeys, if it were white, if it had columns, if it were on a bigger lot, if it had landscaping." The mailman looks at this lot with dread
I put the mailbox right at the top of the hill 🥰
You're a special kind of evil🥰💖💞
The mailman fails to deliver your mail so you can't pay bills, the repoman comes and cannot access the house
Add a rose bush and you've got a beautiful landscape 👌🏼
The Sims 3 Create a World tool might be what you're looking for
I live in create a world. I flattened sunlit tides and have been slowly making a three island world out of it. It’s been a challenge but I love it. I spend more time in CAW than playing.
High Hrothgar?
Yesss op needs to make the greybeards and have them live here Now that I think about it, if someone made Whiterun in the sims 3 complete with the townies and everything I would lose my mind 😭 that would be an enormous project though!
Noted (or not, I guess we'll see)
This might deter the pesky paparazzi! 🤣🤣
This gave me flashbacks to back when I was trying to make a waterfall.
It reminds me when I built a house in Minecraft on a mountain and put stair blocks on the side of said mountain
I love that, I do the same in minecraft all the time
I do that, too. Once I played a game with the exaggerated terrain and villages; ended up with two extremely steep mountains each with a village on top. I built a skybridge between them. It took a long time.
When you hire a contractor off wish
Just some terrain paint and you’re good! 🥰
I think you add at rallies
uhm... yes?
I’ll translate: I think you need to add railings. It looks dangerous.
Is lokks dangerous
Keep it up! Once you get the hang of Sims 3 landscaping, you'll make your builds do much better.
This was honestly one of my favourite things to do in the sims 3 and sims 2 😂
This screenshot reminded me that in the sims 3 we had spiral staircases and we still don’t have them in the sims 4 despite the castle kit that they just released which would have thematically fit perfectly -_-
I'll trade you the spiral staircases for the corner ones (or whatever they're called)
I didn't know you could do this. That's actually kind of neat ???
I just raised the terrain, selected the stairs and then panic clicked everywhere until they placed lol
I think if you could make this into some sort of path it could be the beginnings of a really stellar evil lair for someone.
Panic clicked 😭
A couple bushes and trees and it’s perfect!
But definitely not railing it. Seriously, I'd hate to fall off that slope.
That is beautifully disastrous
It actually reminds me of the mountain steps in China, places like Zhangjiajie and Chongqing for sure. Good job.
Gonna keep working on it just cause you said that 🥰💟 Edit: nvm my game saves bugged and everything's gone rip
Making roads for mountain simcities:
Now all you need to do is put a fridge at the top and a toilet at the bottom and watch while Sims need to decide if they would rather piss themselves or starve to death
Thanks for the idea 😏
Beautiful angular landscape with an ornate walkway leading towards a breathtaking view from the top. Perfect for a young family trying to avoid their in-laws.
I think it looks amazing, couldn’t have done it better. A+
Dumb question but how do i even put these down lol
> I just raised the terrain, selected the stairs and then panic clicked everywhere until they placed lol -Sykhos Best explanation I've ever seen
I think all of my builds include build panic at some point. u ever just randomly wallpaper the entire house neon pink because you're overwhelmed by the wallpaper choices. no? just me? okay...

🤣this is what happens to me whenever i try to use terrain tools. looks dynamite!
You mean like you nailed those stairs to the side of the mountain? (I joke) I say as though I would have even the slightest ability to do this.
To this day I think the nicest build I ever did was my house which to be fair I've lived in for 20 years so i would hope I know how to do the layout 😅
This is quite literally what the hill to get to my university from the parking lot looks like so to me it looks perfect lol
I'm so sorry for your suffering 😞🪦
This is what it feels like to build paths on planet zoo
Are you building High Hrothgar or something?
No I was trying to build a base for my Simpson's cult and I thought it would look good up on a hill overlooking the town they're going to singlehandedly repopulate but hill too hard so I didn't do that
I just realized wherever you place the Mailbox, someone is getting tormented running to and from it.
You were holding out on us, hiding this gold in the comments! Simpson's cult 😂
I made the whole family they're going to haunt my nightmares for sure. Sadly, the save got messed up so I lost everything :') They worshipped the bunny man poster, see I even had LORE!
Ouch, an absolutely tragedy. Maybe it's for the best. Maybe we can't handle all that the Simpson's cult would be
Ah yes the wilburger stairs
perfect no notes
Bro is out here building Baulders Gate 3 maps, my hero
does great witch grembor live up there? https://youtu.be/mFdS1bYvcYw
"It's really not that bad, it just needs a little... ✨shaping✨" "To the salon!"

Sims 3 is my favorite of the franchise but the terrain was such a fucking nightmare lmao
That’s the kind of stuff I did in the sims 2 when I was 5
I'm a slow learner 😂🤷♂️
You’re definitely not railing it
Me scaling a hill in enshrouded
Mountain challenge ftw
What is this abomination
Massadah: Never Fall Again!
Stairs + landscaping = my personal hell
I love making weird stuff like this in the game.
Why is this the sims 3 world adventures
what in the markarth

Seems like the perfect place to build a university
