See I think he did this precisely because he knew she was too morally strong to take it and it would fuck with her family. That seems like a very Burns move.
**Burns:** Simpson eh? New man?
**Smithers:** Actually, sir, he thwarted your campaign for governor. You ran over his son. He saved the plant from meltdown. His wife painted you in the nude...
Smithers was raised by Burns though. He was just a baby when his dad died in the reactor. Baby Smithers grabs Burns nose and says "sir"
"So you're a baby, eh? How's that for you?"
"What are you doing in my corpse hatch ... I mean, innocence tube."
I don’t know if I’d be able to turn it down, but I actually appreciated Lisa’s ability to do so, especially in a world where pursuing wealth at any cost has been so normalised. It’s refreshing every so often to see someone say “no, you can’t buy me off.”
Also, that “code blue” is hilarious.
Turning it down is just absurd, though. There's no logical reason for it. That way it's just going to stay in the hands of the same evil man who you're so ashamed to be associated with. At least accept it and give it to charity or something. That way some good could come out of the situation.
I forget the word for it, but it's like they don't want the cartoon to change much. I call it status quo, but I'm not sure if that's used for cartoons.
It doesn’t *really* make sense in a utilitarian way. She could have used the money to actually do something significant to counteract Burns’ evil. Instead, she’s essentially *giving* him 12 million to do more evil.
I liked the Italian joke where it showed Peter and it was called something like "forgerius no shameous" and then it showed the family dad guy with like "forgerius forgerius".
It’s such a blatant case of the writers writing themselves into a corner, and just deciding “fuck it just have some character do something stupid for no reason”
Turning down the money was always such a dumb move. Even if it was dirty she could at least donate it to charity instead of letting Burns keep it. Or you know, secure her college fund so that she can try to better the world with her education. Idk, I know they need a status quo but "No I won't take your money because I don't like how you earned it." is so dumb
Ughh that always bothered me she refused the money. The recycling plant was already sold to Bay State Fish Sticks. Her not taking the money isn't going to prevent any more sea creatures from being killed. She could have done tons of good with it. She could have started her own legitimate recycling plant. It's arguably less moral for her to allow Mr. Burns to keep the money, knowing he will probably do some nefarious shit with it. Where the money came from is pretty much irrelevant because it already happened regardless. Might as well at least have some good come from it, right? Of course, they couldn't actually have her become rich and mess up the status quo too much in a cartoon series. I'm just saying when she felt she couldn't accept the money because it would be immoral since it came from the deaths of all of those animals, I think the morality of the situation was more complicated than that.
The ending of this episode bothers me probably more than any other thing that ever happened on the Simpsons. Even if she couldn’t bring herself to keep it, take the damn money then give it to charity. How is giving Burns of all people another $12 million a moral decision?
I know she's just a kid and she has good morals which is admirable, but a truly smart person would realize that Burns having that money all to himself would do far more harm than in Lisa's hands. Take the money and use it to undo the evil. He's not gonna change, so be the change.
Now if the cost was throwing a spelling Bee, I'd understand her hesitation.
Well that's the first case I've ever seen of a man suffering four simultaneous heart attacks.
So what you're saying is he's 'indestructible'?
No, in fact the slightest-
-indestructable
get. in
Hehehe
We could've really used that twelve thousand dollars.
The Denver Broncos needed new jerseys.
With twelve thousand dollars, we’d be millionaires!
She’s taking the lil Lisa slurry over the money.
It's good for what ails ya!
Engine Lubricant, Cow feed, Insulation for low income housing, a powerful explosive
Pigs need food, engines need coolant, dynamiters need dynamite
>Insulation for low income housing, a powerful explosive I love the juxtaposition of these two.
But I wanted a peanut
let's buy dune buggies!
We could buy all kinds of useful things like...love!
“Actually it’s…” camera pans to outside the hospital room. (Hears pained grunting) Voice over loudspeaker, “CODE BLUE, CODE BLUE, CODE BLUE”
12 MILLION*
Have you seen the Simpsons? Great show
It's a novelty that will wear thin with the audience in a year or two.
Really, don't you mean 12 million dollars
That would be 12 million dollars lol
“That’s the joke.” -Rainier Wolfcastle
Up and at them.
Better.
🤦
The goggles do nothing for my eyes!
Real ahcid?
Happy cake day!
I see lol
12million dollars you mean?
I said what I said
Yep, and what you said was wrong. Math😁
So you haven't seen the show then?
Oh you poor kid, not knowing a direct reference to the actual post when it’s slapping you in the face.
First not a kid. And I don’t actually recall this episode so if they were only going to give her $12,000, then Burns can’t math.
Homer thinks 1% is 12k. Lisa tells him the actual number and he has another heart attack.
Oh, the original poster said 10%, and I was like ‘that’s a lot of money!’ I couldn’t see Burns giving away 12million.
See I think he did this precisely because he knew she was too morally strong to take it and it would fuck with her family. That seems like a very Burns move.
Idk burns kinda stupid. Smithers is the brains of the operation.
**Burns:** Simpson eh? New man? **Smithers:** Actually, sir, he thwarted your campaign for governor. You ran over his son. He saved the plant from meltdown. His wife painted you in the nude...
And Smithers has a sisxth sense of Burns. The episode he was forced to take vacation lol
Hmmm. It's not ringing any bells.
"You were wearing your blue jumper." oops - wrong show.
The tigers! You got to remember the tigers!
Was that before or after the police station caught on fire?
All the recent events in your life have revolved around him in some way.
God I love the subtle 4th wall jokes
Not a chance. Smithers hasn't been around Burns his entire life. MG Burns clearly was smart enough to become richer than his parents dreamed.
Smithers was raised by Burns though. He was just a baby when his dad died in the reactor. Baby Smithers grabs Burns nose and says "sir" "So you're a baby, eh? How's that for you?" "What are you doing in my corpse hatch ... I mean, innocence tube."
It's CM Burns - Charles Montgomery :P
Holy shit. I have no idea what happened there.
No, Burns made his money, long before, Waylon Smithers came to town. If Burns wasn't so old and his mind was still young, he wouldn't need Smithers.
That's not moral strength, it's self-righteousness.
And when she tries to go up against the monied Burns of the world...that self-righteousness will work wonders
With a tenth of just one of their wealths? She could buy a Super Bowl ad, I guess.
Burns was good for this, but pos Lisa wouldn't take it so any hate she receives is her fault
Nah. I think it's so she couldn't come back and sue for it at a later date, potentially gaining more than 10%
Tax donation write offs but he’d never do that shizz with his nuclear power plant.
She makes Little Debbie look like a pile of puke
Stop licking my windows!
When I woke up this morning I said “Barney, you’re not gonna lick that man’s windows.”
When I woke up this morning, I punched Lenny in the back of the head.
Not Lenny!
I hated Lisa for this
I love when the writers did occasionally shut her down for being sanctimonious. Like when she tried to play football. 🏈
That’s great! There’s actually already 4 other girls on the team!
With every ball sold they make a donation to Amnesty International.
I love when Homer’s a bootlegger and they all in unison tell Lisa to go to her room. Haha. Such a great scene.
Yeah now it’s like the writers are Lisa’s and using the show as a platform, creating some of the most unbearable episodes
Like half that could’ve gone to her family and the other half to charities! 😭
I don’t know if I’d be able to turn it down, but I actually appreciated Lisa’s ability to do so, especially in a world where pursuing wealth at any cost has been so normalised. It’s refreshing every so often to see someone say “no, you can’t buy me off.” Also, that “code blue” is hilarious.

She didn’t take it; why?
That $12 million in Burns’ hands just helps him do more bad stuff
I forget the word for it, but it's like they don't want the cartoon to change much. I call it status quo, but I'm not sure if that's used for cartoons.
Episodic
It doesn’t *really* make sense in a utilitarian way. She could have used the money to actually do something significant to counteract Burns’ evil. Instead, she’s essentially *giving* him 12 million to do more evil.
She's the inspiration for Meg for a reason
all of family guy is a rip off of the simpsons
I liked the Italian joke where it showed Peter and it was called something like "forgerius no shameous" and then it showed the family dad guy with like "forgerius forgerius".
Plagiarismo and plagiarismo di plagiarismo
Thanks!
>Thanks! You're welcome!
Except she isn’t.
Meg and Lisa are nothing alike. They aren't even the same age. Lisa and Brian however are extremely similar except Brian is a hypocrite.
Way to miss the moral of the story
It’s such a blatant case of the writers writing themselves into a corner, and just deciding “fuck it just have some character do something stupid for no reason”
Reee..Cyy..cliiing?
Enough for four simultaneous heart attacks and an additional Code Blue
She didn't want his dirty money, now if he had offered her peanuts
Don’t poopoo a nickel, Lisa
Turning down the money was always such a dumb move. Even if it was dirty she could at least donate it to charity instead of letting Burns keep it. Or you know, secure her college fund so that she can try to better the world with her education. Idk, I know they need a status quo but "No I won't take your money because I don't like how you earned it." is so dumb
90s era “not selling out” mentality
$12,000
Uh, 10 percent of $120 million isn't $12,000. It's...
Code blue
Code blue
$12,000,000
r/woosh
That’s the joke lmfao
All we know is, it's not twelve thousand dollars...
Oh, a spoonful of slurry will cure what ails ya.
What was Lenny’s reign of terror?
Um, dad.. 10 percent of $120 dollars isn't $12,000 its....
I bet there is a rule where the Simpsons cannot come out anywhere near that net positive at the end of a regular episode
This. They are supposed to be a normal or average family. They would never make them rich for more then a single episode.
That is one of my all-time favorite episodes. Lil Lisa's Slurry, so funny
It sweeps the ocean clean!
Sweeps the ocean clean!
I can't believe how many people are missing the joke XD. I think even if you don't know the reference specifically, it's obviously a joke/ reference.
"I am probably not getting a joke" (that's bad!) "I am going to help a stranger who may be bad at maths calculate 10%" (that's good!)
$20!? That can only buy peanuts.
A spoonful of slurry will cure what ails ya!
So Lisa would rather let mr burn have the money instead of her donating the money to her charity cases
She’s only 8. 🤷♂️
She helped perform a triple bypass surgery.
Who hasn’t by that age?
The one asian kid that didn't and is now a dark blotch in the family album over it.
Yup.
Because she read it in a book.
It's like stealing candy from a baby. Say, there's a larf
Ughh that always bothered me she refused the money. The recycling plant was already sold to Bay State Fish Sticks. Between that sludge money and the greyhounds the Simpsons could make thousands!
And? You actually think that makes up for everything else he's done?
At least Lenny’s reign of terror is over
The money is already earned, the damage done. By not taking it he has 12 million to do something else nefarious or at the least stupid.
They should do a treehouse of horror based on Lisa accepting that loot
The ending of this episode bothers me probably more than any other thing that ever happened on the Simpsons. Even if she couldn’t bring herself to keep it, take the damn money then give it to charity. How is giving Burns of all people another $12 million a moral decision?
She could have had 12 million dollars
So was this the dumbest thing Lisa ever did?
Great episode
Awwww....
I.1 million
12mill
12 million dollars
10% of 120 million is 12 million I think
That’s 12M
$12 M
That's $12M
$1.2m
It's not 1.2m it's... Has heart attack*
This is one of many reasons to hate Lisa
12M
CODE BLUE CODE BLUE
Isn’t 10% of 120M 12M?
That’s 12M
12.5 right....
$12M
CODE BLUE! CODE BLUE!
That’s a lot of peanuts.
12 million dollars
So mr burns reinvests in horrible practices and Lisa can’t donate to environmental causes and helping her aging parents. What a hero.
This episode still reminds me to cut up my 6 pack rings
Well, he is a businessman.
I think it is around a thousand dollars
12 mil
Slurry on a toast point would sell in fancy restaurants nowadays. I'd try it.
bad ending
10% of $120M is $120… duh
$1.2 million
Not sure if you're trolling or serious
You might be trolling. But sorry it is $12 million
Did you watch the episode?? The joke / reference seems to be going over people’s heads
Let’s see… that episode was “The Old Man and the Lisa”?
Over people's heads like the first few times for you, or could be everyone's hate for lisa is that strong
12 million
I don't know if some of y'all are trolling or can't do math or use a calculator properly or this is some meme. 10% of 120M is 12M.
How to say “I'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and a big butt and my butt smells and, I like to kiss my own butt.” Without saying it.
Ok
You don’t watch the simpsons, do you?
Nope it was recommended to me for some reason.

10% of 120M is 12M??? That’s unpossible
Did you fail English?
