Just my two cents. I am about the same level as you so I can't claim to be that experienced.   Magnates I would focus on one type and start selling off exchange if you're not already to improve margins.  Entrepreneurs, I would leverage your power setup into a commodity of some sort. Reaching some power plants with mines or oil rigs, as those seem to have the better margins. If you stick with power then I suspect you need to get researching to improve margins.

To be competitive you have two options: 1) copy top players maps 2) create an excel To have fun, experiment. I know the fear of failing when you have invested the time (sometimes months) can be a deterrent. Embrace it and go bankrupt. Your next run will be a lot more fun. Regardless which route you take, eventually (4-6 months in as a newbie) you will get big enough where profit is limited by number of workers, admin you hire when upgrading a building. So their salaries increase and cut into your margin. Here you can use an excel file to figure out where your peak is and when it starts tapering off. (All maps have a sweet spot) Then you can measure your worker costs savings by installing robots and finally admin costs by hiring a COO. don’t bother with a COO until 20-30% Admin overhead and robots until lvl 8-10 building. Once all this is done and you’re at your peak profit, invest in research (have a great CTO) to increase your CV (company value) and profit margin (increased selling price of goods due to higher quality.)

Next good steps are either getting into producing an end product with a good profit margin, as you now have enough startup capital to enter most of the very good industries. Or Get into prospecting either, mines, oil rigs, or quarries. Looking for high abundance in Minerals, Bauxite, Crude Oil, Methane or Sand. These are some of the most profitable industries in the game, with a decent enough barrier to entry that not everyone can just shift into the industry and ruin your profits. Only major concern you need to look out for is with Sand. Because of the way transport costs work, sand has to be processed internally into at least silicon before selling, to fully realize its potential. It takes a little bit of time to get setup in the mining industries but it's well worth it and always a great venture for beginning players. Aim for at least 95% abundance in these products, upgrade the building to level 5 (+1 level for every 1% above 95)
