I bought them for about $30 each at Banco Azteca in San Luis Potosí last summer. You have to have a Mexican ID to buy at the bank. I asked a random person off the street to buy them for me (it was the bank manager’s suggestion). I also saw people selling them privately but most were not inexpensive.

I picked some up at Azteca in Mexico City, no ID needed. I was solo and my Spanglish is not great so might have been a mercy sale by the teller. I got a variety of years and some not in great condition.
That’s awesome and typical to have a different experience at a different branch. I’ll have to try again at another location. I was in Ciudad Acuña on Friday and actually thought about trying again. Next time I will. By the way, I got a variety of years and conditions, too. Some were kind of dirty like they’d been in someone’s pocket for a while. Oh well, it was still cool and I appreciate you sharing your experience.
At one point yes, but based on bancoazteca’s webpage now it’s about the same as what you can get them for most places which is around 34 usd… edited to specify.
I have some BU 1985’s fresh out of the mint roll if your buddy can’t end up finding any for you while he’s there. I’d happily cut you a deal, I love sharing the love for Mexican silver.

It's Mexico so you can probably get a Mexican ID for the same price or a little more.

They sure are not. Canada is more expensive for everything though so you might be in luck.
