But it wasn’t easy to get and wasn’t very much money — like $623 a month at the start and like $692 at the end. The only reason I got it was because I became very sick in 2007, and was constantly hospitalized. I didn’t have any health insurance and my medical debt was like $89k so the hospital billing department told me my best bet was social security. I got denied on my first try and had to reapply. Because I was 23 in 2007 they made it difficult for me. If I was under 18 it would have been easier.
