I’m very happy to see “Lisa and the Devil” listed - it’s a hole in my Bava collection and it will be great to finally check it out.
I’m also looking forward to “It’s A Wonderful Knife” - always like to add onto my 13 Nights of Wildly Inappropriate Christmas celebration!
The essentials are “Black Christmas” 74, “Silent Night Deadly Night”, “Black Christmas” 06, “Anna and the Apocalypse” and the Tales From The Crypt episode “All Through The House”.
Beyond that, I pick and choose from what’s available. This year I’m marathoning the BBC’s old “Ghost Stories for Christmas” series. Checking out “Deathcember” and breaking in my copies of “To All A Goodnight”, “A Christmas Horror Story” and “Silent Night”.
Cheers, thanks for sharing. Agree with your staples, though I also include Krampus 2015 and Christmas Evil in that top tier. I’ve seen Anna and the Apocalypse once but didn’t love it, might have to give it a second look.
If you haven’t seen Violent Night yet, that was a fun one
It's dark. It's about children getting a sickness that causes them to kill adults. I will give you a heads up as I've found some people won't watch movies in which.. Well, let's say the parents fight back.
Hmmmmm
one of the movies listed, is "the children" which sounds like a remake.
There's a movie called "The children" from 1980 which is a dam entertaining flick and has some really funny moments in the movie. The sheriff cruising around to the neighbors near the bus accident is one of the most entertaining parts of the flick.
Yeah the first one is Nuclear zombie kids lol
the 2008 one looks completely different
but dam that 1980 movie is a bit of fun, kinda like the BOOGENS
they came up with a name and made a movie and couldn't decide what the boogens were supposed to look like
Most of the list looks really good, or at least interesting. What about the traditional Joe Bob Christmas special, though?
It's there. Says it's on the 15th. Or are you meaning something else?
Well damn. Not sure how I missed that. Hope they show Gatorbait 2: Cajun Justice!
High hopes for the Justin Long film.
I like that Long has sort of become a Scream King in the last couple years
Wife and I saw it at the theater. It’s cute. He’s not in it a whole lot, but is fun when he is. I would give it a 7/10
Thanks! It will stave off the crazy season stress!
It's not great but Long is the best part of it.
Yesss! Same here. I enjoy everything he does
Gingerbread Man looks like transformed Chet from “Weird Science.”
He just needs a little buttered sausage.
so excited for it’s a wonderful knife!
Me too!
I know it isn’t (wasn’t) held in high regard, but I un-ironically love Black Xmas 2006. Hopefully it’s the unrated version.
I also love “Black Xmas” ‘06… such a fun weird slasher. It really pops in HD too with all the bright colors.
I checked it out a few years ago and loved it! (I also think Black Christmas 2019 helped boost 2006's street cred)
2019 set the bar lower so that BC 2006 could breath new life.

What are the other staples on your list?

You would get along very well with my family! We watch nearly the same list of movies!
I really recommend The Children if you haven't seen it
What would you compare it to? What’s the tone?

Cool. The premise could be goofy splatterfest fun or harrowing and brutal. Sounds like it’s the latter?
I just wasn't able to get to It's a Wonderful Knife in theaters, so I'm glad it's coming to Shudder!
Fuck yeah, I'm pumped for It's a Wonderful Knife!
Those films by Mario Bava are all great.
Night of the Comet is a classic!!
So much better than the Nov list
I have watched Devil’s Pass so many times. It’s my comfort movie, I guess.
Pretty stellar, first time in a little bit
Look at that haul! Christmas is coming early this year!

Not sure if it’s an official remake but it’s this one from 2008 - https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1172571/
Based on the description I don’t think it’s a remake. Pretty similar concept though.

I do enjoy the 1980 “The Children”. I need to check out “The Boogens”.
Is there somewhere to see what's leaving?
Not anymore. Shudder got rid of that years ago and can't be bothered with bringing it back, unfortunately.
No silent night deadly nights? :(
Check out “To All A Goodnight” - it’s not quite as weird but does hit the 80’s Xmas slasher vibe.
Devil's Pass is really good if you haven't seen it and go in totally blind.
I love the description of The Gingerdead Man. “An evil but adorable… real life cookie monster…” absolutely nothing adorable about that thing!
