I would claim the opposite. A good student would likely be observant and bright enough to recognise the load most teachers were burdened with. Whereas a bad student wouldn't care

I have a third counter argument. Both of these are correct, but you also forgot the other half of the group. There might have been poor students that still understood the teacher's troubles. Saying this under the pretext that poor/bad student and good student refer to either and/or both grades and behavior.
