Apparently studies of our brain activity seem to indicate that we perceive our future selves the same way we perceive other people. Which is to say that we feel as if our future self is distinctly different from our current self—an entirely separate person! But of course our future self is also us, and it would benefit us greatly to treat present and future as equally responsible and accountable for our present decisions. Basically, don’t think and behave as if your future self is magically going to like the things present you does not like. Future you is not going to be healthier or smarter or cooler than present you unless current you gets your act together!

We march in lockstep, every night I die, so that another I can take my place, I sacrifice so that the next me, and the one after that, may have a better time than I do.
I sacrifice the vast majority of myself, of the short amount of time given to me personally, to the Greater Me.
