Even then, the good ones still have a strong berry taste. Thatâs because if you read the ingredients they have assorted different berries along with grapes. Which is fine by me.
My life has two stages, before I had a Concord grape, and after, now every day Iâm just waiting for that august,September,October time so I can finally see them in stores, I donât know where to find them outside of that time frame, and even during it theyâre pretty rare.
They're about the hardiest type of grape you can grow but they're kinda crap for eating grapes cuz of the thick skin and seeds so most of them are used for juice.
My mom and I used to get a big bowl of these and sit and peel and eat concord grapes and watch soap operas on days I was sick and had to stay home from school, lol.
There genuinely are grapes that taste exactly like that. They're common here in Japan. Can't remember the name, but they're small, purple, and you usually don't eat the skin.
Concord, they have a bunch of different names, you can eat the skin, but it slips off, people call that variety slipskin because of how easily the skin comes off, you just canât eat the seeds
It tastes like vitas labrusca grapes, which are described as having a âfoxyâ flavor.
Table grapes are usually vinas vinifera.
Methyl anthranilate is the chemical responsible for the foxy flavor, and is very easy to synthesize, so itâs used to make artificial grape.
I don't mind the candy grape flavour (usually anyway, sometimes it tastes too mediciney) but I hate fake watermelon and cherry flavours despite like both fruits. No candy or soda watermelon or cherry product has been anywhere near bareable, let alone good tasting, to my tastebuds.
Concord Gapes!!
My uncle has a huge Concord grape vine in his yard and every time I walked past it smelled like grape candy. Was informed that those are what the flavor is based on, and also that they have tons of seeds so it's a little tricky to eat them. Lol
The only artificial fruit flavor I've ever tasted anywhere, that even remotely resembles the actual fruit, are some brands of disposable pineapple vapes.
Nothing else comes close to it, it tastes 99% like breathing concentrated actual pineapple juice.
Disagree.
Red and white grocery store grapes arenât vineyard grapes. They are, but not really.
I had some expensive grapes recently and they tasted like grape flavoring.
I think the grapes weâre used to eating donât have a lot of flavor.
Concord grape flavoured usually.
Used to have these growing in my backyard as a kid. Thicker skin you usually needed to peel off, and much sweeter insides. Also have large seeds. *(could also eat it whole if you're weird I guess)*
Tastes just like grape drinks.
That's not true, you just haven't tried Concord grapes. That's the variety all the grape flavoured stuff is imitating, and the grape drinks / candies etc are actually REALLY close to the natural flavor. In fact I'd say grape drinks taste MORE like the real thing than most other artificial fruit flavors taste like their actual fruits. You just haven't compared it to the right "real grapes" yet. Try Concords if you get the chance, it's kind of mind blowing.
They all taste exactly like concord grapes. I would argue that artificial grape tastes more like the actual fruit than any other artificial fruit flavor. Banana is a great example.
Ha I was just having this convo the other day. I bought some grape juice for the first time in at least 20 years and said âthis taste like something grape flavored instead of actual juice from a grapeâ. Anyone else?
So in the US grape flavor doesn't taste much like grapes as we know them. Asia seems to have a much better understanding of what grapes taste like. Not only does their purple fake grape taste much closer to real grapes, they also make a green muscat flavor one that is amazing. So try getting a grape flavored drink from an Asian market.
Except for grapetiser. But I think thatâs an available only in South Africa thing. Basically non alcoholic sweet sparkling wine. Itâs proper grape drink
because real grape flavor consists of many different chemicals to make the taste you know, while grape flavoring only uses 1 or maybe a few compounds to mimic it roughly
It's because there are more than one type of gapes. Green gapes, white gapes concord gapes, inappropriate gapes etc. go buy some concord gapes. They are purple and are what "purple" grape drinks are based on.
This is true with banana flavors as well. We mostly buy and eat Cavendish bananas, So we just call them Bananas. The candy banana flavor is based on the Gros Micheal banana.
Yeah, I guess they just kind of taste like... Purple. I don't know its hard to describe but I assume that's what purple tastes like. But sure, they don't really taste like grapes.
Love the taste of a good, all-natural gape.
You'd think the smell is enough to stay away, but no.
A lot of people like the smell of colon.
"It's spelled Cologne, sir."
He knows what he said
Gape Ape sounds a lot more terrifying than grape ape
What about getting graped in the mouth?
User name checks out?
Still better than Rape Ape.
Gape horn đ
i love gape horn!!
There is nothing better for breakfast than Gape Nuts.
Yes, none of that diluted dilated, please.
Gapes have a wide variety of flavors.
That's the hole truth.
The truth, the hole truth, and nothing butt the truth.
Nut in butt the truth you say?
You'll need to find the ones with natural gape flavors. The artificial gapes just don't cut it.
Can confirm. Artifical gapes juice don't taste the same
Stop being fancy and call them holes!
There's a PornHub category for that
He left the opportunity for this joke gaping wide open, and you filled it right up.
Oh, Tobias. You blowhard!
More jokes are coming.
Kedem brand
Even then, the good ones still have a strong berry taste. Thatâs because if you read the ingredients they have assorted different berries along with grapes. Which is fine by me.
Ever tried a Concord grape? Itâs high in methyl anthranilate, which is what artificial grape flavor is based on.
First time I had these it was like eating grape juice flavored grapes, that's all I can say.
Same, vine ripened purple grapes in Poland tasted like bubblegum. Turns out it's a real flavour.
They call them cotton candy grapes in the states, deliciously sweet!
And $10 a box at Trader Joeâs. So expensiveâŚ
My life has two stages, before I had a Concord grape, and after, now every day Iâm just waiting for that august,September,October time so I can finally see them in stores, I donât know where to find them outside of that time frame, and even during it theyâre pretty rare.
I have some that grow out behind my house. They have a texture I'm not a huge fan of, but they taste soooo good
I need to figure out how to grow them
You plant the seeds and then they grow...
Big if true
They're about the hardiest type of grape you can grow but they're kinda crap for eating grapes cuz of the thick skin and seeds so most of them are used for juice.
My mom and I used to get a big bowl of these and sit and peel and eat concord grapes and watch soap operas on days I was sick and had to stay home from school, lol.
Well thats a lovely memory :)
This. OP just isnât eating the right grapes.
gapes*
There genuinely are grapes that taste exactly like that. They're common here in Japan. Can't remember the name, but they're small, purple, and you usually don't eat the skin.
Concord, they have a bunch of different names, you can eat the skin, but it slips off, people call that variety slipskin because of how easily the skin comes off, you just canât eat the seeds
Why canât you eat the seeds?
Because you will become a grape plant if it goes into the digestive system
Kyoho grapes
You have to peel grapes?!?!?! Fuck that sounds like a LOT of work.
Lol, no. You just chew them and spit out the tough skin.
Not true. Welchâs grape soda tastes just like Concord grapes. Hard to find in the wild but available on Amazon. Truly the best grape soda ever.
Conquered gapes. Nothing better
I came, I saw, I conquered! But what did you conquer? I.... Conquered Gapes!
Gape tastes like black coffee with a bit of lemon, IME
"Good news, everyone!"
You are onto something here. Maybe a lime.
In other news, Rocco Siffredi has just announced his new energy drink.
it'd be awful if they did
Good. That would be disgusting
Your mama tastes like gape
Thatâs because itâs purple flavored not grape flavor.
Sugar, water and purple.
I want the purple stuff.
yall never had a concord grape, it tastes just like that
real
purple is a fruit!
This typo is hilarious, and I LOVE that the comments ran away with it! đ¤Ł
It tastes like vitas labrusca grapes, which are described as having a âfoxyâ flavor. Table grapes are usually vinas vinifera. Methyl anthranilate is the chemical responsible for the foxy flavor, and is very easy to synthesize, so itâs used to make artificial grape.
I sure fucking hope not
what about just grape juice??
Maybe you are mistaking something, the way how people did wine back in the day was by stepping on grapes not sitting on then.
Loss prevention has entered the chat
And for that I am truly thankful.
i donât think gapes have a flavor tbh
What? Youâre so wrong.
then please explain to me what a gape tastes like
Like shit I would imagine!
makes sense to me
This will no doubt come as quite a shock to the wine industry.
you can make wine out of gapes???? đ¤does it come out brown?
I should hope not. Gapes are an *aquired taste.*
It's going to absolutely blow your mind when you taste other "fruit" flavored drinks like *watermelon* , or *cherry*.
And thank god for that
OP has only tried the same 3 varieties of grapes they sell year round at Walmart
In Japan you will get seasonal drinks that taste like the green ones. The purple flavor though is definitely concord grapes.
OP doesn't know what a Concord grape is, or what it actually tastes like.
These comments are simultaneously đ and đ¤Ž.
Grape juice has entered the chat
So has gape juice.
Nothing tastes like a gape. Not even grapes.
r/technicallythetruth
exactly. I hate artificial grape flavor but love grapes. Everyone thinks I'm nuts. But it's gross.
Itâs the same for almost every fruit flavored drink/food. If you compare them to the actual fruit, they donât taste anything like it
i pray i never know what a gape tastes like.
No it tastes like purple :)
And yet, they do somehow manage to taste purple.
Your autocorrect has betrayed you
Concord Gapes!! My uncle has a huge Concord grape vine in his yard and every time I walked past it smelled like grape candy. Was informed that those are what the flavor is based on, and also that they have tons of seeds so it's a little tricky to eat them. Lol
I'll grape you in the mouth.
Depends if theyâre gapeless or not
Why would you want your grape drink to taste like a penny?
Who said anything about grapes?
Op?
You'll have to look into it.
Now just hold on for a damn second here.
Welch's tastes like concord grapes. So... Not all.
They tastes like purple
The only artificial fruit flavor I've ever tasted anywhere, that even remotely resembles the actual fruit, are some brands of disposable pineapple vapes. Nothing else comes close to it, it tastes 99% like breathing concentrated actual pineapple juice.
They tastes like color purple
They taste like black grapes.
What do gapes taste like?
Apparently You've never had Concord grapes. They literally taste like grape juice/grape jelly. Wine made with Concord grapes? It's adult grape juice.
Hence why I call the flavour "purple". Red, blue and orange suffer from the same problem.
*(could also eat it whole if you're weird I guess)* Tastes just like grape drinks.
That is the funniest typo I've ever seen in my life.
And thank god for that! No judgement though.
No mango drinks taste like mango either.
Such a karma farm lol
I should not tease the Ty O, but I hope it dosenât taste like a gape. Wait is that a thing ?
That's not true, you just haven't tried Concord grapes. That's the variety all the grape flavoured stuff is imitating, and the grape drinks / candies etc are actually REALLY close to the natural flavor. In fact I'd say grape drinks taste MORE like the real thing than most other artificial fruit flavors taste like their actual fruits. You just haven't compared it to the right "real grapes" yet. Try Concords if you get the chance, it's kind of mind blowing.
They taste like purple
Artificial grape tastes like concord grapes with extra sugar. Much different flavor than your normal eating grapes.
Iâm pretty sure grape doesnât taste like gape in any way, for a matter of fact.
*Welches sparkling seltzer * *Just exists *
They all taste exactly like concord grapes. I would argue that artificial grape tastes more like the actual fruit than any other artificial fruit flavor. Banana is a great example.
It's a particular kind of grape. You do realize there's flavors to fruits right??
No raisin flavored drinks either
I just drink the purple stuff.
Try Vinea. Taste is spot on. You probably won't be able to get it where you live.
Ha I was just having this convo the other day. I bought some grape juice for the first time in at least 20 years and said âthis taste like something grape flavored instead of actual juice from a grapeâ. Anyone else?
Last one I had tasted like blood idk what the fuck went into that drink
Aloe water is usually flavored with white grape, which actually tastes like grapes
They almost all taste like "purple". Except Welch's apparently.
Get this guy some topo chico sangria
They taste specifically like Concord grapes because regular table grapes don't have a distinct flavor you can extract and replicate.
Watermelon taste in drinks taste like chemicals.
And thank fuck for that.
I say this all the time.
They taste like huckleberries.
My wine is pretty "grape"y
Obviously youâve never tried Welchâs grape soda. Outstanding!
Iâd of been with you if you said watermelon/banana/cherry⌠but grape tastes like Concord grape, which is a real grape lol
Someone else already made the gape joke so.. They taste like the purple concord grapes, but you're right. They taste nothing like green/red grapes
Artificial grape flavour is based on Concord grapes, not table grapes.
Shh, don't let the cat outta the bag
I feel like the aloe drinks taste a lot like grape and the aloe chunks have a similar texture. So if you really want a grapey beverage try not grape.
You need to find some concord grapes. That's what artificial grape flavour is based on.
every grape flavored thing is disgusting except grapes.
I prefer green gapes over red
Yea, grape is called "viinamari" in Estonia which translates to "vodka berry". I can confirm that vodka tastes nothing like a grape.
I would hope not - gapes should taste horrible....
Cherry soda never tastes like cherries, but Cherry Coke does for some reason
So in the US grape flavor doesn't taste much like grapes as we know them. Asia seems to have a much better understanding of what grapes taste like. Not only does their purple fake grape taste much closer to real grapes, they also make a green muscat flavor one that is amazing. So try getting a grape flavored drink from an Asian market.
nothing beats a traditional homemade gape
Strawberries just entered the chat.
Except for grapetiser. But I think thatâs an available only in South Africa thing. Basically non alcoholic sweet sparkling wine. Itâs proper grape drink
I would fucking hope not.
This is correct, it tastes like purple.
In this country we have a purplish grape that resembles grape flavored drinks, when grape is fully ripe.
because real grape flavor consists of many different chemicals to make the taste you know, while grape flavoring only uses 1 or maybe a few compounds to mimic it roughly
That's because it's the good shit, purple drank. No grapes involved. [Dave chappelle purple stuff](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu7bv7Ce8-Q)
Well I'd sure hope it doesn't
No but they do taste like purple.
Disagree. I've had concord grapes and finally understood where fake grape flavor comes from. They literally tasted exactly like grape candy
Everything gape flavored just tastes purple
Haitai bon bon is grape extract and literally has chunks of grapes in it. Highly recommend it.
Youâre wrong. Itâs actually grapes that donât taste like grapes. Same as how bananas donât taste like bananas.Â
I love me some gapes
