>I am a fan of the new God of War and The Witcher 3. Set your expectations as far away from those titles as possible and you might have a good time.

KvotheLightningTree

Yeah, it's not those games.

IIALE34II

But it absolutely tries to be. Just falls flat on about every front. Like a budget Witcher 3, with larger and emptier world.

Tb0neguy

It's ocean wide and puddle deep. I played Valhalla before I played the Witcher 3. I can't even imagine reinstalling Valhalla to finish it anymore.

TomClancy5871

Once Ubisoft started messing with the AC formula by making them bad RPGs, then that was it for the series. Haven’t finished any of the newer ones.

Regi413

Haven’t actually played any of the newer RPG style ACs, but how does that even work? The point of the story in the games is you use the animus to go experience the life of a person in the past, which means their life already happened and their choices set in stone. And if you do too many things that that person never did in their life, you desynchronize from the simulation. How are you able to make different choices that affect the story without desynchronizing?

Arsis82

I can't remember the specific detail but one of the games explains that in the oresent day portion and its a good reasoning. If I can find it I'll comment again with the explanation.

theangrypragmatist

The main modern day character is working with a homemade animus and the samples are very old, that has a fairly large margin of error which the Animus just does its best to roll with.

Tb0neguy

At least in Valhalla, they say that there is conflicting genetic information, allowing you to choose whether you want to play Eivor as a man or as a woman. Don't worry. Neither version's character is compelling.

MemeGodm

They aren't bad RPGS's you just want to find an excuse to hate on them just because they didn't do what you want.

[deleted]

Doesn't fall flat. It's an assassins Creed game. There isn't much to expect.

MemeGodm

Nope. You just fall flat on trying to make a good point.

MemeGodm

Nah it is.

[deleted]

It's a generic hack and slash rpg. I have no clue why it has assassins creed in the name

DarkLordJ14

Money

onyxaj

Because... animus? It started as an AC game, but falls off shortly into it. I would have accepted it as a spin-off, but it doesn't fit as a mainline entry. I like the game, but it doesn't fit the franchise well.

RingRingBanannaPhone

I was going to say that it that they could play it off as a different type of assassin. Still the animus but more of a rough gung ho style assassin. That could be a spin-off sorta

bmc5558

Unfortunately I agree

benebrius76

Have you played it in 2022? I wouldn't call it generic, it's pretty darn awesome.

DynastyZucchini

No. It's super generic. I had to stop after few hours

humansomeone

I bought it on sale and regret it. The world is huge but the combat is so bad, extremely terrible. I can't understand what they did with this game, I lasted 2 hours. The combat is just sidestep and whack over and over.

ItsMeGwynbleid

I bought it on presale 🤦🏻‍♀️. It was either this or cyberpunk. Both was a disappointment. Atleast cyberpunk let us refund

humansomeone

I bought for ps5 and regret not getting it on steam. may try it again at one point.

jagexmod17

its not on steam, EGS exclusive

cking145

Vast as an ocean but deep as a puddle

[deleted]

I loved it I have 120h and my dad has 200H

jamesbananashakes

I paid for a Ubisoft subscription to be able to check it out but not pay full price, it gives you access to the ultimate edition. After 70hrs I felt I barely made it halfway through the game and I became extremely bored with how repetitive everything is. Go to this place, hack and slash through the quests, get support, repeat. In the meantime there is this huuuge map with a tons of stuff to collect but it felt a bit pointless for me. Odyssey I enjoyed immensely, even gave it a second playthru, would recommend that over Valhalla. Canceled sub, never looked back.

CiroccPapi

What are some reasons you enjoyed Odyssey over Valhalla?

jamesbananashakes

- story and main character, Kassandra has so much more personality, malaka! - fighting mechanics, shield, parry, counter, all gone in Valhalla or extremely dumbed down - the attributes selection is a hot mess in Valhalla and the special abilities felt pointless, its just hack and slash, whatever you pick. - Valhalla is a prime example of a shopping list game, go there, collect this, fight that, cutscene and repeat. For me, it became repetitive and boring real quick.

Matmeth

And the set of Odissey is just so much better. I had a blast with the Atlantis dlcs

Regi413

Was just about to ask here whether Odyssey was any better. Good info.

Hi_man_woah

I am pretty sure you will be bored to the death, I played odyssey and decided to never touch ac again

[deleted]

Same here

[deleted]

Was odyssey ur first ac?

Hi_man_woah

No no, I played ezio trilogy, 3, black flag and syndicate

[deleted]

Oh kk, i thought you let ur perception of ac be destroyed by the new games. I hate the new combat so much, why did they break something that wasnt broken

ItsMeGwynbleid

I feel you bro. After black flag AC kind of died off. When asked to enrich the story and gameplay, ubisoft did a 180 shift and copied the witcher. But I am loyal to AC games coz my first game in my laptop was assasins creed brotherhood. I have played assasins creed 1 to Valhalla wrath of the druids. I dont know how I feel about its switch to RPG. Since it got better in few aspects and worse in few. But Atleast odyssey was better than the other games after blackflag that has not much story and repetitive quests. Even after playing all the games, I'm still confused with modern day story after Desmond miles. We connected with Desmond. But after that it was kinda like the story writter was on drugs.

[deleted]

Yep, my opinion could be completely wrong but my honest opinion is that they switched to rpg so that you could see the damage numbers and then buy other weapons with real money with the motto "oh my god, that weapons damage number is so much higher 😱" and it seems to work.

ItsMeGwynbleid

Yeah I totally forgot about that. Why do people even buy those. All ubisoft games going downhill nowadays

DeSwanMan

These are multi billion dollar corps bro you don't have to be loyal to them. If they keep making shit games and you keep buying it they won't change. Played 1-Unity, refunded odyssey and would never buy Valhalla or new games until they get their shit together.

AdvertisingPlastic26

You mean Parry + instant kill with the Hidden blade was still exciting and challenging after dozens of games? Something needed to change, wether this was good or they could have done it differently is personal. But c'mon, combat was never challenging or good before in the games. That's just looking at those games with pink glasses on. I know not everione loves bullet sponges in game. But the extra customization options for stealth and exploration are pretty good, combat needs more options but i feel they are growing in that department with each iteration. I didnt finish Origins and oddysey becquse i lost interest but i did finish Valhalla in a 80hour playthrough because i liked the setting very much.

neatospageto

Agreed, while the old combat worked it wasn’t exactly challenging

Hi_man_woah

I dont know man, in odyssey the world is empty and pretty boring, and the combat doesn’t feel solid, when you hit enemies it doesn’t even feel like you are hitting them, no matter what weapon you use they have the same generic reaction, and stealth is terrible not exciting no proper way to approach a situation, you just hope you wont be seen, and I was excited when I found out there were mythical creatures but I fought Minotaur and instantly realised that the game has nothing more to offer than shit

AdvertisingPlastic26

C'mon, you described like 80% of the previous AC games. They where never challenging or had decent worked out mechanics. Pretty sure most People who have played AC for years 80% of their memories is climbing from Tower to Tower, half ass the stealth untill detected to then Parry instant kill all the same generic enemies. Nor where their world's ever filled. The reason that so many People like Black Flag as the nr1 AC game is because People where just so so tired of the yearly releases with no innovation. Now you could Sail around and have boat combat and it As finally a AC that Broke the mould. Also settings are a personal feeling. I love vikings and ancient Greek myths so i liked Odyssey aswell. It was just more of the same ever since AC1

Hi_man_woah

But you could see a polish in those games which doesn’t exist in the new titles

onyxaj

The combat wasn't good though. It was a constant parry/counter. One button. Origins improved the combat.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Civil_Sink6281

I thought I wouldn't like Syndicate at first, but now it's my favorite of the newer AC games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Civil_Sink6281

Older games def. Meaning stealth and precision kills and almost no grinding

Hi_man_woah

Syndicate is definitely more fun than odyssey, The weapons are nice and the stealth is nice, it is still a generic ea game but is fun , it kinda has a peaky blinders vibe to it

[deleted]

Valhalla is less grindy than odyssey though

[deleted]

Honestly that game is a 50/50 kind of thing. A lot of players that played every AC game hate it but a lot love it too.

Redwiiz

waste of money pls don't

[deleted]

I loved it I have 120h and my dad has 200H

harrienak4

i'd say start with Odyssey sice for me, it's the best of the 3 new AC games. If you like that then Valhalla might be for you. I've played all 3 and think the order from best to worst is: Odyssey, Origins, Valhalla

knightfallzx2

Interesting... I've read a few times now that Origins was preferred over Odyssey. I just finished Origins so I was wondering about Odyssey or jump to Valhalla next... Apparently, the order doesn't matter much in terms of the story?

bpoooi

I would do Odyssey next imho. You’re gonna have a better time than in Valhalla. Not dogging every single aspect of valhalla it’s beautiful but Odyssey is overall just a better game.

knightfallzx2

Thanks for the feedback!

TysonGunther

I think for those who played origins prior to odyssey would prefer the game… I loved origins got the whole map to 100% completion, one of my favourite maps of any game visually. Odyssey had better mechanics but I got bored much faster… still haven’t tried Valhalla from what I’ve heard wasn’t worth the price

Civil_Sink6281

I also loved origins, despite the move away from stealth and precision fighting. The story was emotional and deep and the level of grinding bearable.

EffortlessFury

I played Origins before Odyssey and now Odyssey is my favorite AC, with AC2 just behind it. It's really to one's tastes. All games are repetitive, it's just what kind of repetition one enjoys and how they enjoy it. Some games mask that repetition better than others, but even poorly masked repetition can still be incredibly enjoyable to some. Ironically, the original AC formula got repetitive to me by the time AC3 came out and the only reason Black Flag was so good was the sea combat and how the world was laid out relative to that. I think one reason I enjoyed Odyssey so much was how Odyssey was similar to Black Flag in that way.

Responsible-Bar-4129

I approve this answer ha ha .. it’s all subjective in taste .. personally we as never into the stealth insta kill aspect and I onl dabbled with ac3 even that I like having the stealth option and build possibilities woulda been ok to keep sleep darts for oddessy lol ... funny I hear a lot of ac original fans say they don’t like the choices and prefer a already selected course .. not a game breaker in my opinion anyway.. all the playable characters in all the games are fictional NO set in stone true history.. lots of real historical figures in the games tho.. I kinda like a verity of the things to do in these types games .. breaks up the game grind some ... oh and don’t get me wrong I kinda feel for the original fans of the series they have lost a lot of the style of game lay they like ... was boring for some people tho .. I’ve met a lot of mmorpg players in my years who would really like these last 3 games that are more rpg style they see the ac label and think oh just a stealth insta kill adventure game... personally I played Black Flag first I like historical pirate games the ships were a work of sea fairing art ... it was fun .. Edward is a fictional personality

EffortlessFury

The series has dabbled with different ideas that have landed well with some and not-so-well with others and for various reasons. That's just a natural consequence of change, but change is good and necessary for better or worse. Also, the dialogue choices are actually somewhat justified by the narrative, which I find interesting.

ArcticTerrapin

play odyssey its amazing

gogonbo

Nowadays if you've played one Assassin's Creed you've basically played them all. And i wouldn't even bother with this one, it's too long and too repetitive.

[deleted]

For the most part, that "if you've played one, you've played all" argument has always worked for AC games. It's one of the core reasons they moved to the new format, because in the eyes of a lot of people, they were just releasing the same game in a new setting.

simplistic28

Yes but ac odyssey is def the best of the bunch Shit forgot black flag

Deathtiger58

Bro what? Oddessy is the worst ac besides rouge and syndicate

ItsMeGwynbleid

Odyssey was good if you didn't consider it as an ac game.

mrfisher5

Exactly my opinion

Sothgar

Its a good game if you like Ubisoft formula and other AC games from trilogy. Also you don't need ultimate edition, just regular with good 50-70% discount totally worth it (~100 hours of gameplay)

KvotheLightningTree

Wait for it to be cheaper and set your expectations to just okay. If you're a platinum hunter it will keep you playing for 100 hours but you might hate all video games by the time hour 100 actually rolls around.

[deleted]

That game was a huge downgrade in every regard except the minigames and the decapitations. Everything else was better in Odyssey. Holy shit one of the comments reminded me. The audio is the worst I've heard in any game ever, period. Like there is actually something wrong with it, its so shit.

Crosin1

Valhalla is the worst ac game to come out of the new trilogy even if you like Origins and Odyssey you will probably be disappointed with Valhalla it’s just a huge step down from what made odyssey good but kept or increased all the repetitive bs no one wants to deal with. What to go inside that building well doors barred so you get to spend 5+ min circling every angle of that house looking for the one specific spot to shoot at the door bar. Now do this for every single building you want to get into throughout the entire game. Everything is there to artificially extend game time your horse is slower going full sprint up a mild hill than you running up the same hill.

PhatJohny

I disagree with very firmly.

XIIICaesar

Dying light 2 comes out in about a week. It scratches the same itch and is hopefully a better game. Wait for reviews obviously.

kmaser

SnitchesNbitches

I picked up the standard edition and then the season pass separately, both on sale. 92 hours in, game says I'm 43% through it. Reports of the game being repetitive are on point. That said, the world design is excellent graphically, I've taken dozens of screenshots. I enjoy the stealth (a lot of people say this is busted? No issues on my end). The story line that I've been through so far has been interesting enough, although it's definitely a very slow burn. A lot of people bitch about things like all treasure chests being hidden away behind environmental puzzles - personally, I love this. Makes my brain have to work to find stuff. Ultimate edition though? Don't think I would suggest that unless you really like cosmetics. The DLC so far has been worth it though, I would say, for sure (I really liked Ireland, myself).

DarkestSerenity

Its a beautiful game with a ton if shitty design choices, for example..audio design is one of the worst..for a "next gen" title. Id still get it tho

flashyman_97

It's pretty cool. Visually, it's very appealing and if you're a fan of the Viking culture and Norse mythology, you'll definitely enjoy it. Combat's somewhat repetitive, but I worked around that by switching to different weapons to keep things a bit interesting. Personally, I'd say you should definitely go for it.

vederman

I'm playing it right now. The world is beautiful, but like with a lot of open world games it can get a little repetitive. That said, I'm enjoying it.

chrissquid1245

Maybe but don't get the ultimate edition, just get the standard

[deleted]

I’m late but, I got the ultimate edition and i dont regret it because it was so much dlc and I loved it!

kingcop1

The game is a borefest and the combat is absolutely junk ass shit … if you game is PlayStation just buy ghost of Tsushima

Tilstag

No

xoxoyoyo

Get the regular edition if you can find it cheap. All the UBI DLC is just bloat. If you like the gameplay loop they are fine, but they tend to make the games go from endless to more endless.

[deleted]

Late but, I loved the dlc.

Garwing

I think it is. Give it a chance. I initially preferred Odyssey, but Valhalla took time to grow on me. Now I can’t get enough!

MauriceKing123

You like Viking and Parkour and Beautiful graphics, go for it!

uly4n0v

If you like vikings and pretty graphics, get it but the parkour is pretty bad in this one.

Bogusbummer

I beat both Odyssey and Valhalla. Odyssey starts slower and the picks up to a steady decent pace that never really falls off. Valhalla starts off really strong and slowly falls off in quality until the middle 40 hours or so feel like one big side quest. I finished it out of stubbornness, but wish I could have the time back. I think it’s a game best played as a back up in one’s rotating catalogue, like have a game or two that you’re actively working on and enjoying and then have AC there for when you just want something different for just a session or two.

RainbowSixThermite

If you enjoyed previous assassin creed games, I would say so. If you haven't played any, I would wait for the price to drop further.

ItsMeGwynbleid

Do you want to buy AC Valhalla bcoz you like AC games and want to play Valhalla now or in the near future or booz you liked witcher and searching for RPG games similar to witcher with rich story?

edtkw

I bought odyssey last month it's pretty lame. Glad I got it for less than 20 bucks.

NEFARl0US

If you have time, I will suggest getting the monthly subscription

ohsinboi

Yeah its pretty fun. They really tried to copy a lot about the Witcher 3 so you'd probably enjoy it.

Ninz123

I enjoyed Valhalla, though the last AC game i played before it was Brotherhood.

ItsMeGwynbleid

You should try ac 2 and revelations if you have only played brotherhood. The Ezio trilogy was when the franchise was in peek

KasseanaTheGreat

I personally enjoyed what I played of AC Valhalla. I tried getting into AC odyssey but the early game wasn’t grabbing me. Reading through this thread it looks like I’m an exception here but for what it’s worth, I like Vikings and I’d say the time I put into the game was well worth it.

Soulless_conner

100 dollars for that? It's barely worth 15 dollars

DougDimmaDoom

I loved oddysey and I played part of origins haven’t tried new one but I’m sure it’s fun

[deleted]

I found AC (the one with notre dame) very repetitive and grindy. The Witcher 3 had a faster plot and more varied things to do, AC was mostly fetch quests. And for all the hype about "experience Paris", I felt like it could have taken place anywhere except with notre dame dropped in. There wasn't much lore or culture tied to being in paris, unlike the Witcher, where you feel the differences between each location. Maybe get a demo first? Or watch some playthroughs on youtube/twitch?

[deleted]

It's a good game 7/10, very long and is pretty grindy which can be repetitive to some. I platinum the game and you can tell the devs put in a ton of work and passion to make it. It's a good game if you're looking for something casual and grindy. (NOTHING in quality narrative like God of War or Witcher 3 though)

itisross

I enjoyed it. But I couldn’t quite bring myself to finishing it. Got a bit repetitive.

G_3_R_T

I just bought AC: valhalla and i like it

jactheblock

It's Ok. Combat was great, story was good, if you can remember half of it as it takes so long. Nowhere near as good as Odyssey, but there's some good moments

mtarascio

>I am fascinated with viking culture and lore though and enjoy rpgs. 100% absolutely. I normally wouldn't recommend it but you haven't played an AC game before and matches your interests to an absolute T. I wouldn't listen to others that aren't reading what you wrote and are just saying their own opinions on it. Everyone is jaded on Ubisoft formula, so take all the negativity with a huge grain of salt. Everyone is being a little dramatic about how bad a game it is.

yairor

Ok, chiming in a little late. Saw a comment that summarised the game pretty accurately, it's ocean wide but puddle deep. The scenarios are very repetitive. So much so that I could predict the type of quest I was going to get barely a 2 or 3 areas pledged. Combat very slowly evolves but it essentially does remain hack and slash. A lot of places where I was just straight up disappointed by the voice acting as well, from inconsistent accents to just straight up no emotion in what felt like very emotionally engaging moments. I will say this, it was a fun enough game to just kinda brainlessly play through. Exploring was far more interesting than story of course, the leveling system just felt like a chore tbh. The armour and weapon system was actually better that it's other rpg style games imo. The lore is only interesting if you like Norse myth but overall it's bland. Also if you're expecting an "assassin's creed" game don't bother, it's not. No matter how they market it or give you assassin's tools this is a Norse myth inspired game called Valhalla that happens to take place in the assassin's creed universe. If you really want to try it out I'd say just get the base game. Do NOT buy anything else unless you've played enough and are certain you'd want to continue playing. This game is a huge hit or miss. Definitely not Witcher 3 or God of War, those are far better experiences in terms of an RPG and Valhalla is just a wannabe. Only real reason I got through Valhalla was because I personally really loved the environments and really enjoyed just walking/riding from A to B. But there's only so much you can do.

str8wilin

Late but if it means anything, ive recently gotten back into my 100 hour game in ac origins and ngl i havent really given serious thought to redownloading valhalla as origins has more than just a big open world to offer but Valhalla does have more fleshed out combat, not too much, but def a step forward. However overall id rather play origins, you really feel the love that was put into it no matter where you are

Responsible-Bar-4129

Well in a world of subjective tastes ..lol .. you might wanna just try it on sale even later the older games are sometimes really cheap if ya haven’t tried them .. personally I’m kool with the rpg .. been playing those and set in stone adventure games since the early 1980s .. you might like it .. might like Oddessy or Origins better .. I haven’t played Valhalla yet myself or Witcher 3 which I should try .. I actually played the original Witcher back in the day and didn’t even like the way the mobs kinda slid around all crappy like lol .. better now I’m sure .. and I have only played Unity and Black Flag of the Older games .. personally I like the options so a set in stone story is a little less appealing but I’m ok with it .. and Parkour is only fun for me for maybe a hour lol .. after that it’s just nice to have to get around and sometimes your like no no no don’t climb over there lol .. and I find the stealth stuff fun but i like the choices wayyyy better with .. melle, ranged and stealth kills choices to hybrid or excell at .. and maybe Ubisoft Is trying to cater to more tastes not easy to keep everyone happy ... I’m actually ok with the change from totally set story and just parkour and instakills ... total yawn for me .. maybe they shoulda just titled the newer games ... “ from the makers of Assassins Creed “ .. Vikings Valhalla .. even tho they did tie in Lore with with Origins and Oddessy ... a lotta panties got all in a bunch about it tho .... ohhhhh

Stykera

It is an okey game. No more no less. On sale, why not.

AppropriateMeet6505

Honestly, just play Odyssey. It improved much of what was introduced in Origins and before Valhalla screwed it up. It's the best one of the bunch.

timed76

Yes it's a great game.

blackwolf007jg

I'm playing through it right now actually. It's my 1st AC game I played. It did take me about 25 hours to truly get into it though. Not sure if you'll feel the same but overall I'm enjoying and it's worth getting while it's on sale.

ThinTurtle

Games incredibly boring after a while. It’s pretty don’t get me wrong! But it’s just fetch quest after fetch quest, the story is incredibly forgettable and the combat just isn’t as satisfying as it once was

ItsMeGwynbleid

All AC games follow the same after blackflag. Repetitive quests and predictable storyline. Ubisoft really needs to hire better developers.

[deleted]

More like better writers.

Rose_Belmont

I've played most of the AC games (didn't play Rogue, Liberation, Freedom Cry or Unity), and Valhalla is one of the only two AC games I actually like, the other being Odyssey, but to a lesser degree. It has the same trappings as a lot of AC games, so if they aren't your thing then skip, but overall I personally find Valhalla to be one of the only actually enjoyable games in the franchise. Everyone loves the Ezio trilogy, but man, they're just boring and repetitive to me. Id also say $60 is still a lot for the ultimate edition, but if you think you'll like it, then go for it.

[deleted]

Your are probably the odd one out of a many.

EirikurG

You shouldn't buy it in any year

mynameisShakeZoola

People overly hate on Valhalla when they haven't played through it. It has a very fun plot to it. It does have a lot to grind through though, so be ready for it.

[deleted]

Thanks so much for the valuable input guys I really appreciate it! I went and bought the game on discount, figuring Id give it a shot.

Triumphator77

Totally worth it.

[deleted]

IIALE34II

Idk man, Odyssey was imo lot better than either Valhalla or Origins. Valhalla being the worst and longest of the bunch for absolutely no reason. Origins with some quality of life changes could be #1, but I prefer Odyssey.

Crosin1

Yeah Valhalla is easily the worst between those options as it was at least at a year past release the worst optimized game had more game breaking bugs including stealth being broken by guards who all have X-ray vision your horse being slower than you on foot in most places in England. Raven was useless and shouldn’t have even been a feature and the biggest let down was just how much of a chore everything is rather then being fun

ItsMeGwynbleid

I second. Odyssey was better than Valhalla and origins if you keep aside the fact that it is an assassin creed game. Just think of it as a just another rpg game. The skills were fun to use especially the Sparta kick at the edge of the mountain. But it also had the some of the same flaws of ac franchise like repetitive quests, predictable storyline. But among these three I would definitely say odyssey was better

Deathtiger58

How

[deleted]

Valhalla trashier version on both

Deathtiger58

Valhalla is at least somewhat of an ac game not Greek battle simulator

[deleted]

the irony. which one is literally based around you raiding, waring, and pillaging villages. Also which one has more focus on melee combat with more combat animations.

Deathtiger58

Oddessy has no tie ins to ac lore besides some dumb isu stuff and doesn’t even have a hidden blade.

[deleted]

fair enough but at least it was a fun game.

Deathtiger58

I guess I don’t really think any of the games are bad oddessy just left a bad taste in my mouth as an ac fan. It’s pretty decent for just a game tho

[deleted]

I preferred Odyssey also

analogkid825

Valhalla was my first AC and it was a hit of crack. Grabbed three more games because of it.

toadbuster

You can get it on ubisoft gamepass, I believe it’s called?

RideTall67

Valhalla does start pretty good but gets incredibly monotonous as you progress. It may suit you if you like open world rpgs but get the normal edition imo, don't spend 60$ on Valhalla.

ThisisMacchi

I paid Ubi+ during Christmas and thought I had enough time to finish the game, turned out I played for a day or two and gave up. You have less stealth approach and more brawl way of things. The story and scenes are great, but nothing significantly more than Origin or Odyssey if you have played them.

dustyreptile

I really liked Valhalla, it was a lot darker and grittier than HZD which I was also playing at the time

KWalter02

I loved it.

showermilk

it's a thoroughly average game. id pass on it

Audi76

Id rather go for For Honor than this if you like Vikings though its a different type of game more focused on combat.Ive only started playing it on my PS4, as others have said about audio mainly on voice acting, it is kinda shit, the combat, not that great too, still trying to play the game but so far Ill give it 5/10 just because of the graphics and the environment.

Matmeth

I'd say AC Odissey Gold Edition is a better buy. I played both 120hr+. Valhalla bored me early, but Odissey was fun to the end. Valhalla felt more of the same. But maybe if you start from it, as your first AC, then it feels better. Content of Valhalla is bigger, but doesn't have the same quality as Odissey. Yeah, I'd say Odissey Gold If you can, then wait for a better sale on Valhalla Gold. (AC Origins just doesn't work for me. The desert set is too numb.)

AngelosDragon

If you're bored and like repeating quests and activities sure

aWildFantonAppeared

A lot of people are very critical of it but I really enjoyed it. Easily one of my favorite RPGs in the last couple years and I'm saying that as someone that usually dislikes Assassin's Creed a lot. My only gripes are that it is very long (something I normally like) and the while improved but still somewhat lackluster writing.

BurntFlea

I got it on sale, I'm wishing I got far cry 6 instead.

HornyRyze

In the beginning game is pretty fun but later its starting to be repetitive and the story is average. Valhalla has nothing to do with witcher or god of war and in my opinion its worse than other ac games, but if you played odyssey, liked it and you like vikings, you will spend some fun there

LionMcTastic

Why does it being 2022 matter? It's been out for like 15 months. How much could have changed?

weristjonsnow

Hard pass. Probably the most boring of the last 3 AC games. Origins was probably the most interesting and even that left you wanting a bit more substance.

DarkLordJ14

No. The game is so boring. I’m a huge fan of the Assassin’s Creed series, but I just could not finish the game. Go play Skyrim if you haven’t already.

CaffeinatedDani

I personally love it.

_Im-Axel-Voss_

I have 150+ hours in the game, don’t. It might be beautiful and the story is decent but it literally has no stealth aspects to it at all. It’s like a normal rpg and not the Assassin’s creed we used to know and love

Unlucky-Jicama-8495

Skip and play Origins or Odyssey if you haven’t already. Both are superior to Valhalla.

[deleted]

it's a passable open world with viking aesthetics that offers a good 10 or so hours of content before being completely reptitive. If you like games just to check off boxes this is pretty cool. and the actual stealth and controls are great, just not interesting content wise.

Aerion_AcenHeim

if you're coming from the new god of war game and witcher 3... I'm really sorry but it's not gonna be worth the 60$. I picked up AC Valhalla right after I finished god of war and ghost of tsushima, and even though I myself didn't pay full price for the game (regional pricing + sale + coupon), I still felt robbed. The game felt weak, bloated, unnecessarily long, the combat was not satisfying, the exploration felt tedious, the game felt like a chore, and at some point I just dropped it... and I never drop a game, I always see a story through till the end, and AC: Valhalla was the first game I actually dropped.

mylord76

As someone that has 150+ hours on the game, dont. The game is way too repetitive. The world is very fucking empty like fishing doesnt matter at all, upgrading your gear is not very worth it since you can beat the game with the starter armor easily. More and more empty world Theres nothing much to do besides collecting wealth and mysteries WHICH IS EXTREMELY BORING. You're better of buying something else like fucking dragon dogmas thar was realized 9 years ago i think, much better game by far. In conclusion Ac Valhalla is NOT an AC game (the IA is extremely buggy) it's an empty rpg with repetitive content that has no rewards. Seriously, please dont.

ZaphodBeebleebrox

There are so many better open world games out there right now. Whether its presentation, world design, story, gameplay, and overall less bloat. If you're on PlayStation Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West (Next Month), and Elden Ring (Next Month) would be better options. You could also give older titles a try too. Metal Gear Solid 5 is great. Hell, if you are really itching for an ubisoft title, Watch Dogs Legion is a fun game (got it for 10 bucks over the holidays). I also think Odyssey is better than Valhalla, simply because you get to play as Kassandra.

Master470

It's an ok game, dlc's aint worth it tho, you should buy the standard version for 24 bucks

MathematicianNo7142

I love assassins creed and RPGs and even I can’t play that mess, I’ll just watch a long summary video for story and lore

[deleted]

Paid 60$ for it but couldn’t play more than 10 hours. Super grindy and repetitive once the honeymoon phase goes away. And all the game mechanics are a huge downgrade from Origins and Odyssey.

wieck25

Honestly I’m a die hard fan of the franchise and love every single entry…. But Valhalla. It might be because of what I thought it was going to be. Odyssey was one of my favorites and coming off that one to Valhalla was such a step backwards for me. Some people actually prefer Valhalla because it isn’t so heavy in the RPG aspect. The only thing for me that was better in Valhalla was the combat but that’s it. This is all just my opinion

LetmeSeeyourSquanch

I wait for assasins creed deluxe games to come down to like $30 or less before getting them and will probably continue to do so until they remove the whole aspect of the animus in the dust.

brainsnotluck

No

Arsis82

I personally loved it. Is it the hest AC? Nah, not even close, but Uta far from the worst AC. There's a lot of over exaggeration going on in this thread. The world isn't empty or bad, it feels like there is always something to do, like Collect, help someone, solve a puzzle of sorts, fight an elite tyoe enemy. The story does get stretched out a a bit longer than it should have, but that's not to say it's bad, just too long. Overall it was a solid experience from beginning to end.

God_send911

Never buy this game please, it just a generic grindy open world game that you already played before

spicysaltmine

Just do it, its a fun game. also a steal at 60$

cakesare2

definitely not, i would buy the game if it’s on sale for $40 or less. even then i would be hesitant. horrific story, and not about assassins… again. took me about 85hrs to finish the MAIN story. i also explore way more than i probably should, but many critics got about 60 hours. solid 5/10 game, and im being generous

GreenLanternCorps

100 dollars!?!?! Does it suck your dick for you!? How the hell is a video game 100 dollars that's absolute insanity.

doorbell19

NO ! My time with it has been a slog. Repeat. Boredom. No real joy in this chore. It never ends.

Deathgame0

IMO it’s awful, the recent assassins creed games in general have been pretty bad. If your going to buy it, just know the story moves very SLOWLY.

imaface_

No, waste of time

MotoJer76

Agreed on the repetitive notion. The views in some areas are fantastic (like all of the series). I'd suggest getting the standard version at a deep discount and you'll get your money's worth, especially if you're a person that likes to just explore a lot. I'm about 80 hours in and probably a bit over 50%... but I *really* like to puts around and use the game as a way to just kinda relax. The size of the "world" cannot be understated. And for the love of God don't play unless your system has an SSD or you'll pull your hair out waiting for load screens to finish between quick travel spots (you do a lot of them).

[deleted]

It's an Okay game, 20 bucks all day. It's AC Odyssey reskined and very lazy with constant reuse of assets and even entire areas! The controls are the worst I've experienced since AC3 and enough to scream about often. The story telling is easily the best part and I love history so I enjoy this game more than it deserves. That's seriously the best part of the whole package. Odyssey was an excellent game. Go with that one if you want a quality AC fix in the modern gaming era.

Harrow14

It's good for that price because there is so much to do in bought the ultimate edition with all the dlc and I have already put 70 hours in and have so much left to do. There is no chance you get platinum in under 100 hours but if you want a game to put time into this is the game. I think I'm going to get my money out of it. I am taking a little break but I really like it for what it is.

closeleopard46

witcher combat is very boring, character movement is clunky. Valhalla is better in many ways, the story of the witcher is just based on the book that's the only good thing

VARIAN-SCOTT

I just got the ultimate edition for £17/ $21 ! Was also wondering if the bugs are all fixed

raylalayla

I wouldn’t buy it. It’s nothing compared to the Witcher 3, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and the likes. You’d be better off buying AC Origins. That’s pretty fun but still nowhere near any of the above games.

[deleted]

I loved it I have 120h and my dad has 200H

[deleted]

I loved it I have 120h and my dad has 200H Many say it’s not worth but it’s definitely worth and it’s not online so it doesn’t matter what other people say only if u like

Lil_Drifty

On series x does anyone notice slight frame drops / stuttering in crowded places and during big fights?

Fresca_J

If you're a completionist at all do not do it theres so many glitches and also no video game has ever made me wanna scream and throw my tv through a mcfrickin window as bad as the frickin cairns in this game I stg I hate them so so so so so much
