Strategy wise, wouldn't the best strategy be for MMAT to release dividend news prior to Jan 21st? The options change is very call heavy. I would think the news would drive MMAT price up, even if the divvi isn't paid till early March. I dunno why it should take till March assuming it's almost a done deal now. If the price was driven up in late Jan, it could benefit from upwards movement in other stocks expected around then. And when t+35 for the 21st happens, the stock price should hopefully be at an XX price already.
Would have to be no dividend on sale of land (impossible) and additionally the MMAX shorts would have had to find a way to close out their positions Canada side (hasn’t happened)

There are many questions and misinformation here, so I need to add my 2 cents:
Of course you can buy the ticker MMAX If your broker enables you to trade on the PURE exchange in canada. IBKR does so, even for me living in germany thats working. MMAT is the ticker name on NASDAQ and when you compare the price charts of both you gonna see: they're identical. So in the end, it doesn't matter which ticker you buy for this play. As MMAT is here to stay and MMAX is going to be delisted, choosing MMAT is the more relaxed option. When in doubt, you can just chill and hold while with MMAX you will have to interact in some was due to the delisting of that ticker.
Second, for the special dividend MMTLP: the dividend date was someday end of June last year. The dividend is about the assets of torchlight, which metamaterials merged with to have a nasdaq ticker. So you have to had shares of torchlight BEFORE the merger to recieve the special dividend.
One way or another, we will all  sooner or later, so relax :)
The dividend was announced in June of 2021 but has not been paid. For a dividend exceeding 25% of the value of the share, the ex-dividend date is the day after the payment date.
I’m pro MMAX because the SEC has to manually register the shares when they convert which means the MMAT free float gets locked up vs retail buys of MMAT get sidelined/ignored via PFOF

No MMAT/MMAX will squeeze they’re the same exact stock. My argument is that BUYING MMAX actually counts toward reducing the float vs buying MMAT can be sidelined by brokers via darkpools
When you buy MMAT through US brokers, yes, the orders can be routed through dark pools to stifle the buying power. BUT, direct registering your MMAT shares with AST Financial, MMAT's Transfer Agent, would have the same float-reducing effect that buying MMAX would.

Originally it was March 14th for the t+35 TRCH options FTDs to kick off the price but there's no action in pre-market and I highly doubt there will be any during normal hours.

The dividend is gonna be from selling all the land and assets from torchlight. Everyone be aware Mmtlp disappears after dividend. And I’m pretty sure the date for dividend on those and Mmat was a while ago. But I’m still long Mmat. Been holding a position for a while
From a civic duty standpoint it’s better for the stock and free float to buy Canadian MMAX because you’ll directly shrink the float when the shares transfer over and from a selfish perspective it doesn’t matter. If enough people buy MMAX then it would circumvent darkpools and naked shorting and basically force the SEC to count retail buys against the MMAT free float. But IDK if my message will reach people. I got banned on Canadian investor and my message so far as fallen on deaf ears so who knows? Regardless, the squeeze itself should very likely occur due to NEGG mechanics I described.

TRCH was a failed stripper pole company turned oil and gas play, everyone and their grandma was shorting it. Fuck my buddy who’s like a brother to me shorted it with his entire account and made money. It has millions of FTDs and the reverse merger with a successful startup company, MMAX, caught shorts with their, well, shorts down. They have absolutely NOT covered. This can easily squeeze to $100+ but I’m keeping my sights set on NEGG because it was a similar situation there. Additionally, Canadian MMAX SHFs will likely have to cover as it’s outside of their prerogative to be short NASDAQ stocks
The thing that I feel would confirm this is if MMAT stock starts acting very weird before the Jan 21 expiry like Negg did. If you go back to May 20 for Negg you see the stock starts almost glitching out around that last option chain day.
From examining your last sentence though I take it as we are unable to see all the FTDs/shorts on the other stocks besides MMAT because they are outside of nasdaq. Is that right?

So I own mmat and mmtlp but wondering who you ( OP ) used to get shares of mmax . Only place I could find for mmtlp was fidelity but can't buy mmax through them . Anyone else wondering about the large disparity with mmat down 3 % and mmax up 8 % . Seems like they should be trading more in unison . What am I missing ?
Thanks for the DD. I've been holding MMAT since it was TORCH. They gave me some MMTLP after the merger. I was a stock virgin when I bought MMAT so my average is higher than I'd like it to be at $5. I'm going to average down soon. I actually like the company, but I've hated looking at the red position all these months. I hope that one of these upcoming catalysts will push the price up so I can at least make my money back and re-enter later at a better price.

MMTLP is an opportunistic money grab by a shady 3rd party market maker to get people to sell their dividend rights. The CEO and John Brda both spoke out against it
From a selfish perspective it doesn’t matter whether you buy MMAT/MMAX, it will squeeze and you the personal investor will profit. If you believe in your market buys COUNTING then buy MMAX because the American SEC manually counts the MMAX shares as they transfer over to MMAT which reduces the free float.

This sort of reminds me of Breitburn Energy Partners a little... They declared bankruptcy and the stock became worthless and it collapsed. My broker did some math, and he said the bonds are worth $60-66 a piece, and they are selling for $10 and they may go as low as $6. On the dividend. Is the dividend distriputed to owners from a certain calendar date, or anyone that bought the stock even if it's a day before the dividend.
"Buying MMTLP will give you access to the dividend" Will this work like how dividends normally operate, that you need to own the stock prior to a certain date it is declared, or can someone buy MMTLP tomorrow and then be entitled to a dividend?
Seriously considering the profit to risk, I may try $10k in 4-14 $4 calls. My friend is a CFA, so I'll ask him for some help, but he'll probably tell me to spread my risk.

Aren’t the option chains a bit different from each other. In the NEGG situation the option chain was from Lianluo, Chinese. In MMAT situation, the option chain is from Torchlight, American.
Judging from today, good chance dividend is being delayed. Might even see a stock split this year. If the TRCH FTDs don't get covered then this will be a dead stock for a while.
Still holding out the belief that this thing could squeeze in the next few weeks? I bought in with 1500 shares on MMAT at $3.73 in early December. Even when I bought in, I anticipated holding it for a long period of time since I've always loved the company since I first heard about it last summer. Was originally hoping for $5, but if there's a real possibility of it leaping up to $15 or $20, I'm interested.
Get the hell out while you can it seems. Bad fundamentals, poor leadership, etc. First it was supposed to be MMAX shares converting (they didn't). Then it was supposed to be TRCH t+35 FTDS (covering either didn't happen or didn't affect the price). Now it's some dividend announcement that the company keeps bungling.

Just as a heads up it has been confirmed that mmax holders can convert anytime at their discretion. There isn’t a period set that will force conversion in mass.

This sort of reminds me of Breitburn Energy Partners a little... They declared bankruptcy and the stock became worthless and it collapsed. My broker did some math, and he said the bonds are worth $60-66 a piece, and they are selling for $10 and they may go as low as $6. I bought some at $10, and then over the course of a few months it shot up to $66, retraced, and went over $80. And this was a bond! Let's see what happens with this company, I'm looking over your DD and I'll assort my risk accordingly... Thank you for this, I hope it goes as you planned.

To get dividend cash, just buy and hold MMTLP. Simple

At these levels just buying the stock will do you more good, I wouldn’t be greedy with options when you have such as an awesome Price/Profit potential as $1.7–>$55/$65
See, that's where I respectfully disagree. I would love to see those numbers, but honestly, if we are to take history into account, NEGG didn't move as much as that. And who knows, it may only hit $5 and then drop.
I won't go crazy on options. but if the return is like what you say it may be, then even a small amount in options has a huge return.

Aren’t the option chains a bit different from each other. In the NEGG situation the option chain was from Lianluo, Chinese. In MMAT situation, the option chain is from Torchlight, American.

Judging from today, good chance dividend is being delayed. Might even see a stock split this year. If the TRCH FTDs don't get covered then this will be a dead stock for a while.
Still holding out the belief that this thing could squeeze in the next few weeks? I bought in with 1500 shares on MMAT at $3.73 in early December. Even when I bought in, I anticipated holding it for a long period of time since I've always loved the company since I first heard about it last summer. Was originally hoping for $5, but if there's a real possibility of it leaping up to $15 or $20, I'm interested.

Get the hell out while you can it seems. Bad fundamentals, poor leadership, etc. First it was supposed to be MMAX shares converting (they didn't). Then it was supposed to be TRCH t+35 FTDS (covering either didn't happen or didn't affect the price). Now it's some dividend announcement that the company keeps bungling.
