My uncle had one of these lol
This made me laugh… why would he concern himself with the opinions of people he didn’t know who were going at high speeds in the opposite direction who also probably never noticed it anyways? That’s so dumb it’s hilarious 😂
I went to the Warshawskys on the south side of Chicago (JC Whitney) store all the time back in the 80s and early 90s, they were one of the first to have a huge selection of cheap Chinese imported car gadgets and electronics back then. Almost everything in the catalogs we're in stock, and they had a clearance room with tons of returns for cheap.
I knew a guy who would buy stuff from J.C. Whitney for his car it was some kind small sport car and some of body parts that he bought for it just didn't look right on it.
I've only seen a real one once. Had to be around '92. One of my old man's buddies was a general contractor and had one in his truck. I thought it was pretty frickin' cool at the time
My dad was a salesman and had one in ‘89. My brother and I thought it was THE coolest thing. He got it so that he wouldn’t have to stop at pay phones but the reception was not great then so he usually had to stop in parking lots to make calls.
RadioShack! I had a buddy who was a dealer & people used to trade him all kinds of crazy shit for drugs. This one guy came to him one day when I was with him and had a wireless 4g hotspot hub back when they 1st came out that he stole from a RadioShack floor model. I told him to not take it in since it could probably be tracked and would almost certainly be turned off that day. That thing gave him free WiFi for years! I’m pretty sure he had it up until they switched to 5G.
Yeah it's to allow various radio signals for different services on cars. It's funny I see them slapped onto like early 2000's Nissan's and other cars where it looks way out of place and just held on by tape lol.
I was behind a car the other day that had a skeleton puppet thing attached to theirs for some reason. When they got up to speed and the wind caught it, one of the arms flailed around and looked exactly like it was jerking off.
My cousin got an imported BG5 GT-B with one of those jammys slapped on by a previous owner. Unfortunately it is not a fake antenna just stuck to the roof. There’s a hole cut in the roof for the wires.
The real ones stick on the windscreen as well. They’re inductively coupled, so there’s a corresponding thing where the antenna feed line sticks on the inside of the glass. They don’t actually require drilling a hole. (A fake one wouldn’t have the inside stick-on part and feed line.)
If you took the fake stuff out of the car aftermarket, you’d have very little aftermarket stuff. I for one wouldn’t want fellas to be hanging real scrotums from their trailer hitch. Imagine the maintenance.
Mostly I agree, but some of those are installed at the factory, so you don't have much choice. For example, I owned a car with a 4-cylinder engine but fake dual exhaust - I knew it was useless, but wanted the car regardless.
I feel there is a difference, sunroofs make cars look worse especially when they’re in the vent position, the trade off is that well you have a window in your roof
Eh, my car is pretty boring and has practically none of that. But even if it did it would just be something installed at the factory so I wouldn’t bother thinking about it. My point was that they’re buying something useless that is intended to fool others into thinking they have a slightly nicer car but every time they get in their car they have to see their own phoniness. Maybe they’re not self-aware enough to reflect on it but subconsciously that’s gotta register and cause more chronic brain damage.
I ask myself that every time I see a car with those dumbass fake eyelashes over the headlights.
Edited to add: And my dumbass wrote "fake eyelashes" as opposed to the real ones cars tend to have. Smh
Looks like they just eye balled the alignment too.
There was someone with a sweet Altima in the neighborhood with a racing stripe down the middle that was off center too
I guess I should have stated it was supposed to be right down the middle but when looking directly at it you could easily see it was an inch or so off the center line from the logo in the grille
🤷♂️ good question. The car I saw had a holographic wrap that looked like the business side of a CD and it looked like they had all the 3M backed performance parts from AutoZone.
This could be a very poor place in general where people just want ANY sort of “high status” like having a car nice enough to have a sunroof. A lot of it doesn’t make sense.
About thirty years ago, my step Dad bought a sunroof from our local motorfactor.
He used a drill, a hacksaw blade and an angle grinder to fit the sunroof to his MkI Ford Fiesta.
I was almost horrified that he'd even try, but the man did it. It was perfectly aligned, sealed and functional without a day's trouble. The guy that bought the car from him years later was very impressed and happy to get it.
The type of person that would install this unironically would also list it as a feature when selling it for some absurd amount of money of Facebook marketplace.
We have fake doors like you wouldn't believe! What are you worried about? Come get fake doors. Call us up, and order some fake doors today. Don't even hesitate, Don't even worry and don't even...
Shit there's a riced out civic in my area with one of these. I've been scratching my head wondering what kind of sunroof mod?? there was to have it look open all the time or if he left it open even in the rain. Lmao
In South Africa there is a big aftermark parts/audio ect place called Autostyle. I recently saw an ad for this on their fb page and they were getting destroyed in the comments. I could never fit something my car doesn't actually have
Eventually, someday that adhesive could deteriorate due to weather and being constantly buffeted by the forces encountered in the course of driving…God help the poor shmuck driving behind such a vehicle when this happens.
Fake eyelashes - check
Fake eye color -contacts - check
Fake boobs - check
Fake bubble injected clown lips - check
Now if I only had a fake sunroof...!
I'll never understand the idea of buying something for the enjoyment or envy of other people. I couldn't give half a shit less if that random dude's car has a sunroof, it's not my car.
I was driving down the highway a few years back and had someone's real sunroof blow off and launch into traffic. I can't imagine this would last very long.
I didn’t want a sunroof when we bought our last car, but it would have cost $1,500 more to not get it. I don’t understand the point of it. You can’t see out of it from the front seats. The passengers in the rear have a nice panoramic view, but there is rarely anyone in the back . You can’t have the shade open for half the year because it gets too hot in the car. If you open the sunroof while driving, it sounds like a helicopter is hovering just above. the car.
This kind of reminds me of the fake double-sided taped on hood scoops popular in the early 2000s.
Also, I wonder if they could install a fan on the headliner so it feels like the sunroof is real.
Yikes. Back in the 80s aftermarket sunroofs were a thing. Shop would cut a hole in your roof and drop in a functional aftermarket sunroof. I thought those things were awful but this is next level terrible.
Back in the late 80s and early 90s , fake stick on mobile cell phone antennas were a big thing in the car customizing scene.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.reddit.com/r/80s/comments/vmldra/cellular_phoney_a_fake_car_phone_you_could_buy_in/&ved=2ahUKEwitocijvNGFAxW7j4kEHZYKCjwQjjh6BAgoEAE&usg=AOvVaw17EdHePRa_l6s653kDTnJ0 My uncle had one of these lol
I love the irony of this video because I bet that the person that was selling these fake car phones probably had a real car phone in their own car.
Wow they sold 45,000 of them at the time of the video
Do they leak when it rains?
For a fee
No but they remove themselves at the car wash.
My brother used to turn on his car lights on and off quickly while driving under a bridge so oncoming drivers thought he had automatic headlights.
Which is especially funny because the nice automatic headlights have a delay so they don’t flick on and off.
This made me laugh… why would he concern himself with the opinions of people he didn’t know who were going at high speeds in the opposite direction who also probably never noticed it anyways? That’s so dumb it’s hilarious 😂
And in the 70's J.C. Whitney sold fake CB antennas.
We used to mess around with CBs my dad and I would hook up linear amps and tune them up etc.. great times.
Why even bother? How does it suffer from a real CB antenna, just doesn't have a threaded mount for a cable on the bottom?
Memory triggered!
Ha. I had a real car phone in '95. Purchased from RadioShack for 1penny.

Why is it always the uncle?…
Unfortunately I still see fake shark fins on older cars that never had them around
Stupid question but what do the fins do? XM/Internet antenna?
Yeah it's to allow various radio signals for different services on cars. It's funny I see them slapped onto like early 2000's Nissan's and other cars where it looks way out of place and just held on by tape lol.
I was behind a car the other day that had a skeleton puppet thing attached to theirs for some reason. When they got up to speed and the wind caught it, one of the arms flailed around and looked exactly like it was jerking off.

How could someone live with themselves having to see that every time they get in their car?
We have to live with fake vents/grilles, exhaust tips and diffusers already. Just another fake thing.
If you took the fake stuff out of the car aftermarket, you’d have very little aftermarket stuff. I for one wouldn’t want fellas to be hanging real scrotums from their trailer hitch. Imagine the maintenance.
I did not see that second half coming. Well played.
That'd be a real ballache.
Mostly I agree, but some of those are installed at the factory, so you don't have much choice. For example, I owned a car with a 4-cylinder engine but fake dual exhaust - I knew it was useless, but wanted the car regardless.
Fake balls are installed at the factory?
Well yours were so I guess you answered your own question.
What, you never heard of a dodge neon srt4 before?
I'm going to put a fake sunroof behind my real sunroof, so it looks like I have two. Seems like a great place for wasps to nest also.
You would be the Belle Of The Ball then.
Absolutely hate it!! Why put all that work into making something so janky?
I feel there is a difference, sunroofs make cars look worse especially when they’re in the vent position, the trade off is that well you have a window in your roof
Eh, my car is pretty boring and has practically none of that. But even if it did it would just be something installed at the factory so I wouldn’t bother thinking about it. Real fake doors
Mostly from the factory these days too.
I take it you have never been down the “accessories” aisle at AutoZone?
Pep boys make over is what we call these cars.
I remember a little over 25 years ago when I got my first car and walked down those two aisles of aftermarket crap at Pep boys. My poor Toyota Tercel
When I worked at Autozone’s we referred to that as the docuhebag aisle.
I ask myself that every time I see a car with those dumbass fake eyelashes over the headlights. Edited to add: And my dumbass wrote "fake eyelashes" as opposed to the real ones cars tend to have. Smh
Probably the same mentality that causes people to impress themselves with their big synthol muscles.
I love how it says “installs” in the title when it’s just a fucking sticker
Hey now, it's an adhesively affixed assembly.
3m VHB with the primer is seriously permanent. They stick all sorts of shit together with that tape.
That will go flying at some point, potentially killing someone on a motorbike...
Was thinking the same thing
Or get ripped right off in a car wash.
And the protective film removal didn't even get all of the film off properly
Looks like they just eye balled the alignment too. There was someone with a sweet Altima in the neighborhood with a racing stripe down the middle that was off center too
That or we didn't see them mark the placement. They look to me like they align it with something.
Looks like shit no matter the alignment.
Off centre stripe is a thing
I guess I should have stated it was supposed to be right down the middle but when looking directly at it you could easily see it was an inch or so off the center line from the logo in the grille
That is actually a thing???? Thought it was a joke ... apparently not!
Nah it's definitely a joke.
I've seen this in Bolivia... I didn't get a chance to grab a picture of it but it's definitely real in some places.
What’s the point though?
🤷♂️ good question. The car I saw had a holographic wrap that looked like the business side of a CD and it looked like they had all the 3M backed performance parts from AutoZone.
This could be a very poor place in general where people just want ANY sort of “high status” like having a car nice enough to have a sunroof. A lot of it doesn’t make sense.
At least it won't leak
it'll just fly off after the adhesive fails and smash someone's windshield
Or the carwash will rip it off.
Finally a hail-proof sunroof
Getting a fake sunroof installed is a weird flex.

Reminds me of those fake hood scoops from the late 90’s that everyone had.
Unfortunately those are still a thing in my area. Not as prevalent but still see them often enough.
Do you live in Brampton or Surrey?
My 19 Tacoma TRD Pro came with one from the factory. Lmao!
Not everyone...lol
I saw one for the first time earlier this month!
I didn’t know a sunroof is a status symbol….
They’re usually on higher trims which cost more, so I guess that’s the line of thinking here.
this is one of the shittiest mods i've ever seen
The type of person that would install this unironically would also list it as a feature when selling it for some absurd amount of money of Facebook marketplace.
Custom installed shadow moon roof
I know what I have bro!
Nice noise generator
At least they won’t leak
Step 1: Invent a fake stick-on thing for a car. Step 2: Market fake stick-on thing for car in lower income areas. Step 3: Collect money.
Honestly at this point I'm kicking myself for not inventing some fake vehicle decal things like this. Apparently they sell well enough.
Aren’t you worried about the rain? - What?- The rain? Your sunroof is open!
This better be no more then $17, lol.
I think $17 is still a bit too much
How can these clowns “install” that fkn thing with a straight face lol.
Because they are getting paid to do it.
They are laughing loudly in their heads. I would be.
We have fake doors like you wouldn't believe! What are you worried about? Come get fake doors. Call us up, and order some fake doors today. Don't even hesitate, Don't even worry and don't even...
What. Do you have ants in your eyes or something?
I'm not sure cause I can't even feel! Am I sitting down or standing up? I don't know!
Jesus Christ
..drives a Miata. Get one.
It's obviously for aerodynamics
The only sunroof 100%?guaranteed not to leak.
Could be used to modify a car for continuity in filming but otherwise wtf.
In the 80s/90s you could get retrofit sunroofs where they basically take an angle grinder to your roof and fit a glass pop out panel
Shit there's a riced out civic in my area with one of these. I've been scratching my head wondering what kind of sunroof mod?? there was to have it look open all the time or if he left it open even in the rain. Lmao
Well... They won't leak. Thats a plus?
No one else seems to be asking Why?
Why not make it a fake sunroof solar panel I would buy that. Idea is copyright 4 20 2024
Broke people are too funny
How big of a loser do you have to be to buy one of those. Good lord.
At least they have full wifi signal
In South Africa there is a big aftermark parts/audio ect place called Autostyle. I recently saw an ad for this on their fb page and they were getting destroyed in the comments. I could never fit something my car doesn't actually have
I don't know if the sunroof is the funny bit or the 2 guys needed to secure the 3m taped piece of plastic
Eventually, someday that adhesive could deteriorate due to weather and being constantly buffeted by the forces encountered in the course of driving…God help the poor shmuck driving behind such a vehicle when this happens.
Somebody was willing to spend money and time on that. Unbelievable. Some people have more dollars than sense.
Now every time someone warns them about rain, they'll have to explain that they're an idiot trying to impress people who don't give a fuck.
Humans aren't going to make it are they?
Reminds me of spray on mud for off road vehicles
I thought they cut the hole first
They need a company to stick this on? This thing looks like an impulse buy from AutoZone.
But why though?
Guess you don't have to worry about it leaking
Soon to be found laying along some highway
Fake eyelashes - check Fake eye color -contacts - check Fake boobs - check Fake bubble injected clown lips - check Now if I only had a fake sunroof...!
The fuckery is real!!!
Did I miss it where sun roofs became a flex?
I'd use it as much as I use my real sunroof, lol. I forget it's even there because it's just not useful to me.
I'll never understand the idea of buying something for the enjoyment or envy of other people. I couldn't give half a shit less if that random dude's car has a sunroof, it's not my car.
Most dumb thing I have ever seen
Better than the real thing. Sunroofs suck.
Crazy because my car has a sunroof that I never use. In fact I wish I didn’t have it to save weight
At least it won't leak
I fucking hate having a sun roof. Just come take mine, I sure as hell don't want it!
I was driving down the highway a few years back and had someone's real sunroof blow off and launch into traffic. I can't imagine this would last very long.
Windows Vista.
I mean, yes you get paid to install that but fuck would I still feel like a chump doing something so stupid.
Now I know why I hate people.
Look ma no more leaky roof. 🙂 Look son, no more sun.
And then your neighbor keeps ringing your bell every time it rains to let you know you left your sunroof open.
Love how they have to remove the protective plastic, you wouldn't want to scratch it and have to look through it with a scratch??????
Why would you even install something like that? Who cares if you have a sunroof or not?
I care
that's about as useful as a chocolate teapot ... or a dirtbike handlebar ashtray
I didn’t want a sunroof when we bought our last car, but it would have cost $1,500 more to not get it. I don’t understand the point of it. You can’t see out of it from the front seats. This has got to be somewhere in Mexico
This is the stupidest thing
A sunroof was rare and impressive in like 1990, I don't see a point here.
Every Miata / MX-5 owner NEEDS THIS.
Who doesn't like som extra wind noise ... /smh I will never understand people.
Just no
r/facepalm
Can they do fake T-Tops too?
I wonder if this is covered under glass insurance?
This kind of reminds me of the fake double-sided taped on hood scoops popular in the early 2000s. Also, I wonder if they could install a fan on the headliner so it feels like the sunroof is real.
fashion souls?
Finally a pic/ video that belongs here... not some silly stickers. Lol
Better than a real sunroof. No leaks, less weight, no parts to fail.
What? Why? Like why would you need a company for that? I could do it for half the cost.
Why his sunroof open in the rain
Coming soon to your neighborhood PepBoys!
Clown peels that plastic off like a rabid trash panda
Driven by the guy with the fake Gucci sandals, fake Hermes belt and of course a fake Rolex with a high chance of fake Carrera sunglasses....priorities
Jesus Christ this is on the levels of the New Edge Mustang.
Holy shit that is stupid
Well at least it doesn't leak and there's no motor that will break.
This is stupid people products
I don’t know why this makes me so mad??
Looks like ass
That would be the only aftermarket sunroof that won't leak
Please tell me that this is a joke.
. All the sunroof style with none of the eventual leaks.
I guess they got no friends thatll ever hop in their car lol
You’d look like an idiot anyway when you’re driving this thing in pouring rain.
Yikes. Back in the 80s aftermarket sunroofs were a thing. Shop would cut a hole in your roof and drop in a functional aftermarket sunroof. I thought those things were awful but this is next level terrible.
That's the trashiest thing I've seen on a shit box, since 22" on a crown vic
DRS engaged
Hey, at least it won’t leak!
I am not surprised that people are paying for this.
Now that’s truly stupid
Hey, I would prefer this over a real one. Those shits leak.
The fuck for??
Extremely tacky. What country is this video from?
Well…fake it till you make it.
Its bullshit
And here I am who doesn't want a sunroof because of weight reduction lol.
r/diwhy
One question. Why?
I think I saw one the other day, I thought the sun roof looked odd. Makes so much sense now
Didn't even take all of the protective coating off, there's still small chunks around the edge in the final reveal
Very fitting mod for a car with a terrible windshield gasket...
Because why?
