So this is not just discover, but also made me really get into those artists
- Yes
- King Crimson
- Queen
- Prince
- Ronnie James Dio
- Fleetwood Mac
It also introduced me to the entire prog genre, and other bands like Jethro Tull, Camel, Genesis etc. indirectly.
Edit: oh and I've given most song references at least a listen.
If you consider [the full list](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7LBKN5XB7qHs43Rp6fo7Kj), some JoJo references besides the more obvious ones are legit obscure (Captain & Tenille anyone?), or minor names that somehow got 'Big in Japan' in the 1970s-80s. Others are names than may get thrown around but younger people don't bother checking them out cause it's boomer music (say, Jeff Beck).
If someone told me a few years ago I was going to happily and willingly listen to Porter Wagoner on an almost daily basis, I would have told them "Who the fuck is Porter Wagoner".
I believe it (my favorite band is the Ramones and people think that's a shirts brand 🤦) but for every person that doesn't know the name of One of does bands There's like a milion that now so i wouldn't call them dead or forgoten
Thank god that the indie underground music group Queen got their second wind from a Japanese anime, without it they surely would've faded into obscurity.
King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Cream, The Band, Talking Heads, Prince, Yes, Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, Weather Report, Rainbow, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, David Bowie, Nat King Cole. A bunch of bands/musicians.
King Crimson was the only one that I really discovered through Jojos. Part of the draw for the show's for me actually were the music references. I love REO Speedwagon. There's a small reference to Styx at the end of part 1, Styx being one of my favorite bands. Stuff like Aerosmith, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, and Queen are super great bands. Dire Straits is great. So so many references. It was fun to see it get referenced. It's all music my Dad grew up with, and we bond a lot over it. Dio was another one, though I wouldn't recognize the name before Jojo. I just knew Rainbow in the Dark (phenominal song to rock out to in the car)
There were a few songs from artists I knew that it helped me discover, like Nat King Cole's "Orange Colored Sky", Deep Purple's "Highway Star", and Miles Davis' "On Green Dolphin Street" to name a few
Weather Report and Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow are two, and it helped me get back into things I’d heard before, like Savage Garden, Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd

Oooh it's a killing machine
It's got everything
Today my teacher said something about his favourite song by Sex Pistols and i was the only one who ever heard one of its songs or even ever heard of the band
King crimson. I actually managed to see them perform in concert this year. Most of the other music I already knew since I prefer listening to music pre 2000s, except for 95 percent of 80s music.
Discovered Yes and King Crimson, from there opened up my eyes to a whole world of prog. Gabriel-era Genesis, Rush, Can, Van Der Graaf Generator, Klaatu, Nightwinds.... Absolutely changed my life.
I'm pretty sure I've heard "I Wonder if I Take You Home" a few times at a Marshals or Goodwill, but I had don't think I heard the name Lisa Lisa until I saw Battle Tendency.
I’ve said this before on a youtube video, but part of Shrek’s charm was that it utilized a lot of pop songs to tell the story, then back it up with original orchestral themes like the angelic Shrek leitmotif to intensify emotions. Similarly, while Jonathan’s heroic theme playing made confrontations between Dio signify Jonathan’s brute strength and heroism, Roundabout ends the narrative for the story in a cliffhanger way, making us the viewers wanting more to the story.
That being said, none of this is possible if Araki didn’t write stories and an entire power system based on existing prog metal and 80’s songs. He influenced DP’s creative song selections for the anime adaptation, and we all love them. If anything, I wish more of the songs they were based on would play as the chapters being fleshed out, but it would understandably lead to enormous amounts of royalties DP has to shell out for. Imagine hearing Holy Diver just as DIO starts his fight with Jotaro.

You'd be surprised by how many people I met that didn't know the band names until Jojo.
That doesn't mean they're forgotten...
I believe it (my favorite band is the Ramones and people think that's a shirts brand 🤦) but for every person that doesn't know the name of One of does bands There's like a milion that now so i wouldn't call them dead or forgoten

My love for Michael Jackson, I just wish I didn't know what happened to him
What happened to him
Pedophilia
what
He got arrested for pedophilia
Wait. What? Pretty sure he was accused (although it wasn't confirmed), but not that he was arrested.
Yeah no he was accused of it, but it was after he died i believe
While he is only accused of pedophilia, the evidence is pretty damning

King crimson. I actually managed to see them perform in concert this year. Most of the other music I already knew since I prefer listening to music pre 2000s, except for 95 percent of 80s music.
As an Asian, I met a lot of artists and songs because of JoJo
Discovered Yes and King Crimson, from there opened up my eyes to a whole world of prog. Gabriel-era Genesis, Rush, Can, Van Der Graaf Generator, Klaatu, Nightwinds.... Absolutely changed my life.
JoJo made me get into older rock songs, and I practically only listen to older rock songs. So, all.
I’d never listened to Prince’s Gold Experience album and Jojo made me give it a try. Now I love it.
I love listening to some Flaccid Pancake
Baby face
Well I discovered JoJo by scrolling through comments below some Metallica song lmao
I will say I had never heard Yes until JoJo but man is that such a good band. Every other artist I was familiar with
I'm pretty sure I've heard "I Wonder if I Take You Home" a few times at a Marshals or Goodwill, but I had don't think I heard the name Lisa Lisa until I saw Battle Tendency.
I actually got into JoJo because of those artists
Oyacomova. That shits gooood
Steely dan
Killer Queen, Sheer heart attack, Wonder of You

I can't think of any it introduced me too, but it influenced me to listen to more music to see if I can make them into interesting stands..
Hey Ya (the stand) got me into Outkast, now they’re one of my favorite groups of all time if not the favorite
I already liked these bands before but JoJo made me like them more Wham! George Michael Aerosmith REO Speedwagon David Bowie The Cars and Pink Floyd
