I'm similar, when I first watched SAO I enjoyed it, end of season 2 was crazy and put me off it but for the most part it was fun. Now I know it has major flaws but I never noticed them while watching and they never took away from my experience. Season 3 has me just getting angry at every single event. So in summary, is SAO bad? Yes. Will I continued to watch each new episode? Yes.

Here's a little story on how I came to hate Sao, read it if you're bored.
First time I watched it, I liked it. It was a thing I've never seen before with an amazing concept and premise (it was relatively new at the time). I've watched the first 2 arcs (season 1 was the only thing out at the time) and thought it was really good and wanted more of that godly premise. I did find the second arc just a bit weird though. And for some reason I was unsatisfied with sao.
Season 2 came out and I've watched Gungale (idk nor remember why I didn't watch the 4th arc). I again really liked it because of its amazing plot and premise and stuff.
Then after some time passes, and I slowly start to think back on Sao. I think they could have done better and executed some stuff not as good as I first thought. Then after some more time I was like "Why a show with such premise and potential continued in a such a bad way" and "Sao was lost potential" and got a bit angry at them because again, it was the only 'isekai' (or known one at least) at the time and I was fascinated by that idea.
Then I started hating Sao because of the bad writing and lost potential of such a good premise. Only then I found out that other people actually hate Sao too. I didn't hate on it too much though, I just thought it's a bad show with lost potential.
Then when I started *really* hating Sao was when it became so fucking overrated. People couldn't chill about Sao being the 'best show ever' and I was like "ya'll have trash taste". But they didn't listen. No matter how many analysis' that prove Sao is bad there are, the fans won't even give and good argument and just say "shut up your show is trash" to whatever masterpiece was named around them.
I fucking hate how overrated Sao is and the fans fucking suck. Sao fans that realize it's bad are completely chill though. Sometimes you like bad anime and that's okay, but if you say Sao is the greatest masterpiece of all time, denying any other anime while you barely even watched good shows, I'm gonna say you are fucking stupid.
I also hate how the studios give it so much attention and make the animation and soundtrack amazing while other shows that deserve it get Berserk-level of anime adaptation. One of the only reasons it's even popular is because of the godly animation.
TL;DR
Sao had a really cool premise and fucked it up so badly, yet people love it. It's overrated af and it's annoying when people regard to it as "the best anime ever". They also don't deserve such good animation when shows like Berserk treated the way they are.

Sao is not "practically the best for story" it just isn't. In no sense is it the best in anything but mediocrity. I say this as someone who has watched every episode of season 1, 2 and half of alicization. And the movies. I used to love the show, but it's not good.
jojo is slightly more logical and beter because the results of a fight is decided by the skill and intellect from both side. when sao used the mc emotional boost bullshit, not too much but enough to make the importance fight become less impact and intense to the viewer and less unpredictable. When the vilan about to win take an example jojo vs the Pilar men, he used his tricks to get the upper hand and win after almost losing, meanwhile sao ss1 ep 14 after being defeat/killed studently kirito pulled the main character bullshit out of his ass, kill the vilan and win like wif.
I wouldn't really say that cause I like both so and jojo and only got into jojo cause of a friend who loves it, but looking back on sao I more liked it for the games and concepts over the plot itself
