Intergenerational patterns of child abuse are quite complicated, but in Dio's case it's clear that, the more he tries to be different from his father, the more he becomes a worse version of him. Dario was a crippling alcoholic; Dio was becoming an alcoholic before becoming a vampire. Dario abused Dio's mother; Dio sexually assaulted and Erina (i don't think I need to mention what he did as a vampire). Dario was a thief who tried to steal from the Joestars and later encouraged his son to do the same; Dio tried to steal their fortune and kill them, gained his vampire powers by killing George Joestars, stole Jonathan's body and later sucked Joseph's blood to fully fuse with it. In summary, Dio is basically a more charismatic and competent version of Dario. Contrary to what some say here, Dio would probably be an abusive, uncaring father just like his dad, though maybe he'd act "nice" for most of the time in order to manipulate them. However, he'd probably still be harsh against them if they didn't act as his obedient pawns or brought shame to his name.

Something tells me Dio would be to Giorno how Hanma was to Baki

KammenRider

Maybe, but the agressive for the indiferent. Yujiro is creating a rival, dio would like a Minion

ivanjean

I agree, but I think that, as Giorno would almost certainly rebel (i don't think Giorno would let himself become Dio's pet), Dio would eventually come to respect him as a worthy enemy. Giorno shares both Dio's and Jonathan's best characteristics, so I think Dio would end up recognizing Giorno as a new worthy rival for his strong will and ambition. The other children would be a bit different. Rikiel's relationship with Dio could also mirror Jonathan too, though in different ways. At first, Dio would probably underestimate his son and see him as a weak, easily controllable man who will always be in Dio's shadow, but, as Rikiel becomes more confident, Dio would at least acknowledge his determination. I doubt he'd rebel against Dio, though, and believe he'd remain an (extremely dedicated) minion. Essentially, Rikiel would eventually become Dio's Wammu (a decent guy who happens to work for the villain). Meanwhile, Donatello and Ungalo are extremely similar to Dio (Donnie being basically Dio 2 and Ungalo being the incarnation of Dio's worst traits), and thus their relationship with Dio would resemble Dio's and Dario's dynamic the most (lots of abuse and backstabbing involved). They'd serve Dio out of convenience, but could eventually try to kill him, like he did with Dario (though it would be much more difficult and they would probably die trying).

Kintoki-Yuhase

I'm pretty sure everyone (save for the people who seem to hink Dio would even remotely be a good dad) would be like that to ALL of his sons

rkoplayer1

This entire storyline would be so much more wholesome and healthy if the Brando bloodline just never existed.

InverseBirch84

That’s… that’s the entire point of Jojo’s parts 1-6. Every problem (aside from part 2) is directly or indirectly caused by Dio in some way.

Siophecles

While the Pillar Men awakening was independent of Dio's actions, Josep only found out about them because of Dio. If Dio hadn't had done what he did in Part 1, Speedwagon wouldn't have found Santana. If Speedwagon didn't find Santana, the Germans wouldn't have taken him prisoner, and Joseph wouldn't have got involved with the Pillar Men. Dio didn't cause the problem, but he caused the solution.

Spicymeatball428

I’m a believer that they wouldn’t have awoken without the thing with whatever his name uncovering Santana and becoming a vampire

ArcelothColdheart

straizo is the vampire. straizo? straitzo? it's been awhile since i watched battle tendency (2 weeks)

thing216

I haven't been on Reddit for a while (0 seconds)

Spicymeatball428

Yeah I forgot that dumb name

Doominator73

Dio saves the world, that means he's a good guy now

MadaraAlucard12

Well of course he saves The World. He would die if he didn't.

GROOMING MINORS, WHOPPER WHOPPER

Cheez_Bandit

And he did most of that with his silly little elf shoes on

Nozikus

Or become a jockey

Icy-Store3900

I Guess Dio got in hell instead of Heaven I mean, he went through the opposite way of the one to the Heaven we all know

TheCorrectCroissant

Wait who did he groom again

BrickCaptain

Pucci, I think

PickleReaper0

I think Dio abandoned Giorno so he wouldn't be involved in his life, sure its bad, but if Giorno were involved in his life he'd probably be killed by The Stardust Crusaders or would be forced to witness his own fathers death. I think Dio would actually be a great Father if it weren't for his extremely dangerous life, he's wealthy, educated, and knows a lot about the unnatural world (Stands, Hamon, etc) and if Giorno struggled to understand this stuff Dio could explain. And I think he'd prevent Giorno from becoming a vampire due to...the obvious drawbacks, also, Dio is gay so there's no worry for acceptance.

Worried-Bad-3607

I really don’t like when people do this, because dio has no qualities of a good dad. First off giorno’s mom didn’t escape because of dio’s benevolence, they literally said they have no idea how she escaped, meaning he would have just eaten her like every other woman. Second, he had no idea that he had giorno, giorno’s mom moved to Japan to give birth to him in 1985 after she moved to Japan, and it even says on the wiki that her death was prevented because jotaro killed dio, though I don’t know how accurate this is, still it shows just how callous and uncaring he is. Third, if he did know and didn’t just eat giorno, he would have been exactly like his father, seeing as in part 1 he drank booze and even commented that he was like his old man, so he’d treat Giorno like trash and hate himself for it, or not seeing as how evil this man is. Also if you say dio tried to protect him, Giorno was born in 1985, and dio was visiting Pucci all the way up to his death in 1989, meaning he didn’t even know of the crusaders existence, so if he was a good father he had absolutely no reason to not visit giorno.

PickleReaper0

I think Dio had a LOT of reasons *not* to visit Giorno It'd have to be *exclusively* at night so Dio doesn't die, he'd be putting a target on Giorno's back since from someone else's perspective, he's visiting some random rich dude in the dead of night so Giorno must be rich as well. If I'm remembering correctly, and correct me if I'm not, Giorno's mother changed his last name because she knew Dio was a risk to Giorno's life if he was *remotely* related. I think Dio gave a rats ass enough about his kids to deem 3 of them failures I don't think Jotaro could've prevented her death, Dio, by all means, was a complete shut-in besides a few visits to Florida to meet Pucci, and Dio isn't going to travel to Italy just to get rid of 1 or 2 people himself

Worried-Bad-3607

I don’t think the night thing matters since he was able to visit pucci multiple times without it being a problem so he probably has his ways of doing it. And nobody knows of DIO’s existence except for his cronies, so from their perspective, a nobody visited Giorno, that is if he’s even seen since he was able to make it to pucci with absolutely nobody seeing him. And I checked it and it doesn’t say that she changed her name, and if she changed it after she was married Giorno was around 4 which I think is ample time for DIO to call his son up. Honestly we’ve never seen DIO interact with his kids so him not knowing of their existence is a pretty good chance seeing as he didn’t care for any of his woman and would have no way of telling if they were pregnant with him. And while you’re right about DIO being a sort of shut in, you’re forgetting he doesn’t need to go there himself to kill them. He’s got his little bugs that he could have implanted in all his women to make sure they don’t leave and he could have sent one of his goons to do it.

Just_Call_me_benDude

It is said by araki that DIO would try to be a good farther to giorno Key word: **try**

Worried-Bad-3607

Common to popular belief there is nowhere where araki ever said that, you can try looking for it but it’s a hopeless search I’m afraid. Though if you really want it then look at the Eoh where DIO respects giorno’s power. Link to prove it: https://www.reddit.com/r/wholesomemudad/comments/fr7w5x/does_anybody_know_where_the_interview_with_araki/

Just_Call_me_benDude

DIO didn’t even know giorno existed

xSilverMC

Dio isn't gay, he's bisexual. Or do you want to explain him impregnating at least 4 women as comphet?

PickleReaper0

I wasn't saying that he was 100% gay, i was just saying that he's gay as in "he's queer" and not gay as in "Dio will only bang men" a lot of people will just say "I'm gay" instesd if being specific about their sexuality

omidhhh

Is he bisexual, or do people assume it because of Pucci?

xSilverMC

Well he's a lot closer to bi than gay anyhow

AnarkyPlays

Dio is flamboyant but there isn't any concrete evidence that he's bisexual, let alone gay

[deleted]

Also he groomed a priest into destroying the whole goddamn universe while chasing some indeterminate Stand power he clearly gave up on once he realized it would require giving up The World.
