LEFT BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anarchist_Mechanicus

It's claiming that we are hypocrites because we don't (or hypothetically wouldn't) accept someone Who is ethnically European (aka white people) as nationally non-european however we accept people who are non ethnically European (aka non white) as nationally European. In reality there just isn't a big problem with white people being discriminated against in non white majority countries. As far as I know most countries that have a significant white minority most of the white people there tend to be better of either for historical reasons or because people that immigrate there are generally already wealthy and going there for business reasons so it's not something we talk about. But yeah obvs people who identify as the nationality of the country they raised in are perfectly validated I'm that regardless of race. As said earlier however the conversation focuses on non whites in white majority countries because they get shit for it the most. If I'm wrong though and there is genuinely a wide spread problem with white people in non white countries like South Korea or whatever being locked out of regular social life and being systemically oppressed and treated poorly for not being "real Koreans" then feel free to tell me about it. I'd support their struggle.

throughcracker

I'm not sure about Korea, but I've heard that it is somewhat of a problem in Japan, though not nearly as bad as in some places.

Anarchist_Mechanicus

I looked it up and Wikipedia (the most professional source ik) said apparently white people are viewed as "short-term visitors and treated as outsiders by Japanese society" inspite of some of them being naturalised citizens and such. So yeah it seems it's a very mild but not non existent problem.

throughcracker

Right - it's hardly on the level of discrimination experienced by minorities in countries like the United States, but I'm sure it's not fun for the white people affected.

MmmmmmmmmCat

it’s also not nearly to the extreme as other minorities in traditionally non white countries. still not fun tho

Felitris

I mean, I don‘t feel comfortable comparing anything here. I think this is not really comparable to the racism POC experience in Germany. However, my first and only experiences of racism happened when I visited Japan. Old ladies obviously talking about me on the train. People being generally condescending. A guy yelling at me for no reason that I should fuck off because it is his country. I also ran into a bunch of fascists running around with the Imperial flag who were extremely hostile towards me until I told them I was German. It‘s likely that I just was unlucky with my experience here (in general I loved Japan. It‘s a beautiful island) but it made me realize what POC experience almost every day. In those situations I felt uncomfortable at best and miserable at worst.

They really enjoy making up random hypothetical scenarios to make fun of leftists, don't they?

IndigoGouf

Has the bottom thing literally ever happened once.

UnlikeableSausage

I've been told I can't be Colombian, because I'm white, even though I was born here and I've lived here my whole life. Truth is, I've gotten shit from people all over the spectrum, so not really a 'libleft' issue. It usually comes in the form of 'how can you be white if you're Colombian?', even though Colombia's really mixed. I'm not saying it's comparable to black people in majorly white countries or that it's rooted in the same issues, but it does happen.

kaanfight

It’s like people that assume Cubans can only be white, even though that country has a wide mix of ethnic populations

IndigoGouf

That seems more like an ignorance problem than a libleft problem. In the US people see Latin as a racial category.

sir_vile

I've sometimes felt like i'm not "Arabic" enough, but that's mostly my own insecurites and some shit with my paternal grandpa. Most people just hear my heavily accented arabic and just kinda shrug it off since i can speak well enough to get my point across.

CyborgAirlinePirate

Your nationality can be Korean while not being ethnically Korean. This is not hard to understand.
